Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

yep i'm hoping to move to gdansk or another biger city?

Good idea.

i'm doing a course in galway university TEFL i dont know will it be longer or what but as i said i'm hoping to move within 3,4 month's.

There are different length T.E.F.L. courses that you can do but they only take about a month at longest.
That is with teacher training hours, which I recommend because the students are there for free, it gives you the chance to teach and make mistakes and get used to about 20 people looking at you.

I do not know if you can get a job here with only the T.E.F.L it is a start. Maybe someone who knows more about teaching here can offer advice?

Anyway how are you keeping?

Grand, it's cold enough :) but I still enjoy living here. Although I am planning to move to a different part of Poland in a bit with work but it is all good in the hood :)

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

Great economy ? .

Compared to what it was, yes it is now much better.

I could never understand why the criminals dont target these areas more, easy money.

They get hit all the time, in Krakow there are many Kontor (Bureau de change)robberies not of the clients but of the Kontors themselves

Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

Hello Shelly,

Well at least this time you know what to expect, which gives you a good advantage.
And in three months, when it is warmer, the move will be easier.
I know it has been snowing in Ireland but it is colder here for a longer period and preparation is important to get through winter, well for me anyway.

Are you gonna move to a bigger city?
I think it is easier for the beginning to live in bigger cities, people speak more English and there is generally more socialising to do.

Good luck.

UK, Ireland / The Irish, the biggest tax evaders ever [21]

I think the statement that alot of people here are benefit fraudsters is totally untrue

Well lets say it is as untrue as any other country.

It is not more of less than in other European countries, in my opinion.

Polonia / Are Polish people required to have tourist visa for Thailand? [32]

If you use your Polish passport in Thailand you will only get a 15 day toursit visa

And a heck of a lot of bureaucracy, it takes hours upon hours for a Polish passport holder.
I think you can organise a visa before you go, we didn't but you should be able to.

Cambodia requires visas for almost everyone.

But it is cheap and only takes half an hour to an hour, depending on who you pay off. And it lasts for one month for Polish passport holders.

Real Estate / Yearly Property Tax - Krakow [8]

You can do pay it using internet transfer, post office transfer. So basically when you set it up and pay it once, store the info on your internet bank account and just change the transfer number data each time.

. I asked but they said they don't send out bills...

Well, it is a letter that states all the information about your property.
And how much to pay and where, so I call it a bill.

Real Estate / Yearly Property Tax - Krakow [8]

Hello mojibear,

And welcome to the Polish Forums.

You pay quarterly, a bill comes in the post in January and tells you about all instalments for that year.

As to how much, I don't know.

Good luck.

Life / Typical Examples of Polish Parking Entitlement (post yours) [57]

Take pics and post 'em and comment!!

Great thread!

I was thinking of starting the exact same one and I will be adding to this in the future because it is hillariously stupid how people ark here and not only that but the lines on the parking spaces were all made for maluchs i.e. put to close together.

I assume there were meant to be photos accompanying your comments.

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

It is the bullish way that he makes a brash statement and then gets all snotty when asked for a link, that is the issue for me.

This is the internet, I am not going to take some guy's word for what he says over what I myself have heard unless he can back up his statements with reliable sources.

But this fella starts going off on one, as if I have offended him in some strange way.
And lets face it anyone who has to call himself "Honest" to prove a point, sounds dodgy to me.

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

Do you believe everything you read my friend ?

No, that is exactly why I am asking for you to back up your statement.

Does it have to be written ?

An official source would be better than some guy who calls himself 'honest' and then gets a bee in his bonnet when asked for backup, yeah!

You might have to change your user name after this.

Does it have to be cast in stone ?

Again your insincerity just shows us what kind of person you are.
If indeed "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year." as is your claim, I am sure it would be written about in the papers.

I assure you of my sincerity, but think.

THINK for yourself.

I now know you are avoiding posting any form of a link to any news paper article, is just suspicious at this stage.

Perhaps we need a combined effort or a Pole to help us out, look through the tabloids it'll be there some where.

I am sure it has happened but I have not heard of it happening any more than in the U.K. for an example.
Plus this guy is just taking the mickey at this stage, he said something, can't back it up and is being a immature and condescending, which there is no need for.

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

healthcare has got problems all the time

I know the nurses striking for more pay etc...

All this happens everywhere else in one way or another, in many different forms.

Yes.

But I have yet to see "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year." as is George's claim.

I just want a link and I will happily read it, that's all.

Edit*

I have eyes, ears and a brain like most people.
So I go amongst them, see and listen, then I use my brain.

Thats my source.
Maybe to convince you, I believe you would like me to produce a petition too.

I am starting to doubt your sincerity on the matter.
This brain you say you have, can it not find links to your claim?

try reading news papers and speaking to higher intellectuals,

Give us some links to back up your claims. I think you may be exaggerating what is happening.

Apart from the daily news channels, try watching " Magazyn ekspresu reporterow ", Tuesday 21.45.
" Sprawa dla reportera ", Thursday 21.00. And you will see and hear what is happening with your current affairs.

Have you any links I can read now?
Because i have not come across what you are talking about when you say "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year."

And if it is so widely known, it should be no problem for you to source it.

doctors and nurses are working without being paid.

I have not heard of that.
Arguments over pay rises, sure but I have not heard of "People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year."

Which Poland are you people looking at ?

I live in Malapolska.

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

I used to like the lamb shank and they have Polish beer but no music...
But cheap as chips, for sure.

I also thought that the Celtic Tiger also contributed to the diminishing Irish pub culture.
Due to people being more money orientated and worrying about mortgage payments rather than having nothing in the first place to worry about losing.

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

i think the only answer is to have bars that are non smoking , and others where you can smoke...This way , people can decide where they want to drink..or work..

Do that and you will see the non-smoking bars are empty.
They did try this in Ireland before the ban came in, it was a flop, smokers are addicted, they will win the "where will we go for a pint?" question.

second hand smoke

Second hand smokers are cheap skates!

A while back in a bar i paid £13 for a round of four bottles of Becks, had i gone to the supermarket i could have bought 24 bottles for £12.

Did the bars not raise the prices because of the lack of business? I really don't know, I am just asking.

non-smokers think that they have the right to force their views onto everybody, just as the Nazis did.

I am unaware of the Nazi's no smoking policy, was it in the gas chambers?

Well hopefully it'll work out for you this time.

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

the business will make more money as it did in other countries after the ban.

I never heard that before, any links to back that up?

I heard that pubs had to refurbish the whole place because the smell of smoke used to cover the smell of the toilets, farts, and all the other unpleasantness, seriously costing businesses.

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

I think it is mollycoddling to force people not to smoke in pubs and restaurants.
So what if we live longer? Quality of life is more important and if someone wants to smoke, let'em, just ventilate the place.
I gave up smoking about a year and a half ago.
And to all the non-smokers who are going to moan about their rights, kiss my arse.
