Travel / Seven Secret Wonders of Poland [17]

It's very beautiful.

But not many people would agree it's one of the 7 most beautiful areas in the world. For example, the lake district in UK is more beautiful.

However, it's a nice PR-thing. I recommend people to visit the area.

Life / I got beaten and kicks in my face just cuz i dont look polish [205]

I say it one more time: a coloured male who's walking with a Caucasian girl and then gets attacked on the street is NOT a victim of racism. He is victim of his own stupid choice to offend Caucasian guys.

Poland is a country where people have the right to choose by themselves who they want to date.

Well, there are 97% ethnical Poles in Poland I read. On most of the countryside it's probably 99%.

But if you correlate the assult statistics by proportion of Poles/foreigners in PL, I'm sure foreigners would be overrepresentated in getting beaten up. However, most foreigners in PL don't get beaten up.

Travel / Which cities in Poland are nice to visit [80]

As you can see it's mostly for people who are thinking about moving to Poland. I doubt anyone wants to move to Auschwitz.

Merged thread:
Nice cities in Poland

Many people ask about this. Some people want to move to PL.

In my opinion these are the nicest cities in Poland.

Big cities:
Kraków (it's difficult to beat the summer-night atmosphere in Kraków.)
Gdańsk (perfectly located at the sea side)

Small cities/towns:
Zamość (close ot Lublin) - the city center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Szczytno (close to Olsztyn) - cozy town, beautifully located between two lakes.
Sopot (close to Gdańsk) - a completely different atmosphere, great beach, some call it a "jet-set town", expensive.

Feel free to add your pearl (esp. in the mountains).

Nice areas to visit:
Mazury - many beautiful lakes
The Northern coast - great sand beaches
The mountains - both in the summer and winter

Language / How to use time in Polish language? [20]

'poproszę' which has a perfective/future meaning, correct?

From a technical point of view, yes.

Poproszę is (simple) future tense per definition. But it's used as present tense. Call it an exception if you want.

Word by word translation. But it's not used with this translation:
Proszę herbatę = I'm asking for tea
Poproszę herbatę = I will ask for tea [
The only practical difference is that poproszę is more polite and more common.

But both of them are always used to politely express that you want sth from the person you are talking to (to order/buy sth). It doesn't make sense technically. But we have to accept that.

-------------------------------------------

Used with verbs to express imperative we can only use proszę (and it's formal).
Proszę wejść! (Come in!)
Proszę iść do lekarza! (Go to the doctor!)

Language / To wear: nosić, nieść, ponieść? [10]

Nosić- to wear clothes, to carry for ex things in hand, bag more less regularly. As you mentioned "I usually wear...."
Nieść - means - to carry (in hand, in bag) in that moment, now
Ponieść - means to carry for a while, or for ex" ponieść klęskę/karę" - to be defeated/punished

This is the essential part.

News / Y Shaped high speed rail line Poland [78]

I'd be surprised if these high speed trains can run in the winter in Poland. Usually they have problems when it's snow and ice.

Life / In Poland for a few months, where to buy digital balances? [9]

As a Medical student I don't know any medical drugs that you must weight like this by yourself. It sounds very suspect.

You don't need a credit card. You can choose za pobraniem payment method and
then have to pay when postman arrives (28zl + 14zl shipment)

This is probably the best option. It's also a good price.

Work / If you were to compere Polish Unis and Unis/Colleges in your country... [75]

lack of equipment is one of those negative sides

Yes. But it's getting better now (with EU-money).

At least compared to Scandinavia, Polish univ focus more on learning details by heart, than understanding the big structures and principles.

It also depends on what we are talking about. There are always small private institutions who are only interested in making a lot of money.

News / Poland has low murder rate [60]

A few years ago Norway had the lowest murder rate in the world. Probably they still have. However, they are not a member of the EU.

However, it's also (one of) the richest country(-ies) in the world per capita. And there are usually a link between those two factors.

Language / Pronunciation of vowels at the end of a word [28]

So you mean that ę in ręka and wolę arepronounced the same?

Especially this one!

However, compared to other languages, pronunciation of Polish letters is extremely regular.

Language / Pronunciation of vowels at the end of a word [28]

BTW vowels in Polish have always the same pronunciation. Their pronunciation does not depend on the position in a word or sentence.

So you mean that ę in ręka and wolę arepronounced the same?

Or that ą in ząb, Dąbrowski and czarną are pronounced the same?

Examples of sentences from my reply above:

Moja ręka jest złamana. | Wolę czarną herbatę. | Boli mnie ząb.

Not really the same in my opinion.
