Travel / A good kebab place in Warsaw? [45]

I know it is not exactly healthfood, but a good kebab can be tasty, if eaten with moderation :)

Travel / A good kebab place in Warsaw? [45]

A question for my fellow Varsovians...Which kebab do you prefer? I have discovered recently Amrit on Plac Wilsona...I find it quite good. Anyway much better than Kebab Rama here in Bielany.

Polonia / MOVING MY STUFF TO MOSCOW and a Harley motorcycle ...any ideas? [58]

It would be best to contact a company such as Allied Pickfords. They know all about the paperwork, customs formalities and for sure also how to "smoothen" the import formalities.

When I moved to Poland in 2004 from Belgium, Allied Pickfords did my moving. They were not cheap but very good.
I wonder how you will manage to get your motorcycle cleared in Russia. Getting my car registered in Poland way back in these olden times is a story on itself...

Good luck anyway.

Travel / Auchan Wroclaw - open on 26th December?? [4]

In every country there are a number of basic services which have to be guaranteed, whenever.
Going to the supermarket is definitely not a basic service :)
24-h shops also not. Żabki are almost always open - though on 25-12 even they are closed I think.

Food / Meatless Wigilia gołąbki? [11]

These traditions seem to be set in concrete by the religionists. It seems to be homicidal crime to eat meat on Christmas" Eve.
I remember the Episcopate telling some years ago that the Polish people "were allowed to eat meat on Christmas' Eve". I do not think some bishop has to tell me what to eat or not to eat?

Yes we also eat only fish Christmas Eve...mainly not to upset my mother-in-law.
I managed to introduce wine though...
In my native Flanders people put festive dishes on the table as well...but each family is doing as it feels to be right.
Traditions are nice, but should not be gun-enforced.

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

I have never ever understood the Polish fascination with the Americans. Why getting shouted at by a Gestapo border "person"? To enter what? Wal-Mart country? They were living in trees when we had Rubens. Primitives.

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

About every country of the region (eastern Europe) which is a member of EU except Poland.

That is what you get for kowtowing to the Hamburger Nation. You tortured CIA prisoners, you accepted dud Patriot missiles. You shot Iraqi citizens and now you are doing the same in Afghanistan. You know...I as a Belgian do not need a visa for the US. But God knows why I ever would ever willingly go there. What is your fascination with the fastfooders?

Life / What's up with the trains in Poland (the whole system in complete chaos?) [25]

As I wrote before, public transportation is a human right. DB and SBB (and my native NMBS) have taken the decision just so. Independent (meaning privately run, owned by greedy shareholders who have a chauffeur-driven Jag and should be sent to Saint-Helena) railways are a disaster. In the UK they are a disaster. Dirty, overcrowded, expensive, hopeless.

Passengers are a liability.
Look across the Channel to SNCF. See the difference?

Life / What's up with the trains in Poland (the whole system in complete chaos?) [25]

Of course, it would mean Pawel and Magda wouldn't be able to travel from their village to Warsaw by train - but who cares?

I have to disagree with you on this point. Rail transport is a basic service (and as such should not be privatized), not only IC trains matter.

Paweł and Magda have the same right to get to Warsaw on their "osobowy" as a business type has to travel on an EIC train.

I can understand that the EIC and EC trains should run on a profit. But the countless commuters who travel on SKM trains have their rights as well.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

Merged thread:
Karp with Christmas ?

Is anybody on this forum eating karp on Christmas' Eve?
Poland has a lot of nice traditions...but this one belongs not too that category.

For me it has a hideous taste...But I also feel sorry for the fish themselves when I seem them packed together in a water tank in the hypermarkets...

So I am lucky my wife does not like it either :)

Life / During winter in Poland, does petrol in the car freezes [60]

I work for a logistics company here in Warsaw. Our drivers add to their supposedly winter diesel approx. 5% gasoline when it gets really though.
In the meantime does anybody have some advice how to open a solid-frozen cardoor open?
From my car only my door (driver's side) opens these days.

Polonia / The Netherlands: run-down districts happy with Polish immigrants [59]

Jarnowa, you are a simple Vlaams Blok nazi. The simple Filip Dewinter line. Have you ever visited the Polish military cemetary in Lommel? (horror, some of the people there are Jews). I bet you have not.

Some of the soldiers there - Polish First Armoured Division - have in their dustridden tanks liberated my Flemish village.
(By the way I guess you are counting down to Morel's death?)
Ge zijt ne complete idioot.

News / John Godson, born in Nigeria, might become Poland Sejm's first black deputy! [313]

Jarnowa...How did "Vlaams Blok" get on this forum? Filip Dewinter dictating your postings?
You probably are rejoicing Marie-Rose Morel is about to die... (sorry for other forum members, me being Flemish could not resist this one)
I think this guy has every right to sit in the Sejm. He is competent, has local support.
How is it that a black member of the Sejm would attract more Africans? I understand that JK in Sejm attracts RM fans...

News / Will Komorowski be Poland's worst ever president? [72]

I think it does not matter any damn thing whether BK is catholic, agnostic or whatever. The president's foremost's role is to represent his country with dignity.

Whether he is a model catholic...Polish model catholic? Belgian model catholic? Italian?
That does not matter at all.
I think BK is doing this very good. Opposite to that moron LK who was carrying his grudges wherever he went. His anti-German obsessions. Not speaking any foreign languages. Behaving clumsy in any kind of foreign environment. Only representing PIS and not the country.

Life / How popular is Radio Maryja in Poland? [163]

RM all but disappeared. Rydzik's geothermal swindle failed - PO saw to this -. I guess he is still persuading old bacias to hand him half of their meagre pensions. What I find susrprising is how RM did not exploit the cross madness. It would have been something they could have invented anytime.

Once RM was dominating the headlines in any media....Times are changing - for the good.

Law / Poland low on national brand chart [66]

As long as the PIS morons will haunt this country...what branding there could be?
I think for them branding is an anathema whatsoever. Of course that idiot statue in Świebodzin could always thrown in.

News / Local elections in Poland, EU citizens should register to vote [57]

WTH! Sobieski?! How dare you vote in my country if you are'nt polish citizen? Keep your filthy hands on Politics in your own country! I dont care who you love or dont like in my country!

I am not a Polish citizen, but as EU resident with a permanent meldunek, I have the same right to vote as you.

By the way U read some time ago that PIS wanted Kamiński head of the PIS club in Warsaw. Imagine that guy getting mayor. Eavesdropping on all PIS opponents and thew IPN making overtime in blackmailing the entire opposition.

News / Local elections in Poland, EU citizens should register to vote [57]

Merged thread:
Local elections in Poland. Who is going to vote Sunday and why?

Sunday local elections. Second time I can vote as a EU citizen here in Warsaw. I am definitely going. Hannah does not need my vote but nevertheless she will get it :)

It is good to exercise your rights as a EU citizen in another EU country. It would be good though if the PIS morons would be defeated in the first round.

I think the current coalition was doing a good job here in Warsaw.

Life / Where did the books of British Council go to [10]

Here in Warsaw in the past the British Council used to have a decent lending library with books and DVD's. That does not exists anymore now. Are there public libraries in Warsaw taking over that function?

It seems all "everyday" questions go without a response here.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

It is about the mentality of people who build these kind of abnormalities. They belong to the same sect as the cross loonies. This money could be given to a sensible charity helping people. No to extort money from them.

It is so much PIS. So much Kielce 46.

The same people canvassing for this idiocy would have been the same having put fire to the barn in Jedwabne.

And the same ones - insofar they would be able to write, read and think coherently, which were slashing with razors the faces of female Jewish students trying to enter a Polish university aula before the war.

The same ones who during the mad and ill-judged PW found time to carry out their private pogroms on the few surviving Jews in the time SS shells were raining down on their heads.

By the way, who desecrated Irena Sendler's grave this year with "Jews Out"? "Patriots" ?

O yes fits perfectly it was szmatławiec Gazeta Wyborcza who spread the lies about Jedwabne.

You Poles - except Polska A - are antisemitic into your very bone marrow

It would fit in the picture.
