Work / English native speaker without a teaching experience moved to Poland and got a job [66]

Attack me all you want- what I say is true. Blokersi is a way of thinking- just because somebody has made a success for themselves doesn't change their way of thinking.

thanks for writing this Delph--that is exactly what I mean.

Everything you say about Poland and Warsaw is soaked with frustration and resentment .

Actually it isn't. However, Warsaw is full of the snobbiest most obnoxious people who think the world revolves around them because they have money.

I talk to everyone- I have no problems with somebody being poor- in fact that is really stupid to even say. I find that Poles treat other Poles with no money worse than anything I have ever seen.

I am lucky and I know this. I also give back to my host country- so don't lecture me. We work hard for our money- and most importantly we don't flaunt it- I am already a target because I am foreign.

pip: Warsaw has some nice points but there are many snobby people here that rub their money in your face that came from very humble roots.
of which you are the queen.

No I am not and I am willing to be that all of the people that have come into my business would agree with me. Some random guy on a forum actually would have no idea- but thanks for your opinion.

actually no. I am not a snob at all but Poles are. Personally, I would love to live in Gydnia/Sopot. It has everything and it is beautiful- however, my husbands company needs him to be in Warsaw- so I don't have a choice.

I personally think that Warsaw has the most "Poland B" in all of the country. People leave their towns to move to greener pastures. Warsaw has some nice points but there are many snobby people here that rub their money in your face that came from very humble roots. Blokersi with money are still blokersi- it is their mindset that gives them away.

By the way it is Wrocław not Wraclaw.

thanks Dick, I know how to spell.

Have you ever been to Lublin?

Yes I have. It is a nice place. It is hardly thought of as a thriving growing metropolis, nor is Bialystok. Sorry- not my rules. Polish people themselves think like this. Major cities in Poland are Warsaw, Krakow, Tricity and Poznan. Katowice is a massive conglomerate of blue collar and anything east of Warsaw is considered town.

seriously- I think the biking thing would probably be more successful- biking is pretty popular here. The problem is that Lublin is farther east than the rest of the major cities and is still thought of as a town and not a city.

Don't be so sure about flying cheap to Paris- the add ons get you in the end. Cheaper than flying from Toronto or Calgary, hell yes- but not super cheap like the airlines make it out to be.

Poland is a great place and I am sure you will enjoy your stay here. Honestly, as a Canadian- you will do well- particularly seeing as you sound like a fun guy. I own a business in Warsaw, I speak Polish with an accent and every customer asks me if I am American. Once I tell them I am from Canada- they are so much more friendly- I am not joking. "Oh Canada, it is so beautiful, how do you like Poland.?" I answer this question at least twice a day. In Poland Canada still is thought of as almost like a haven- not like America. Canada has good connotations.

And if you are ever in Warsaw let me know--my husband has all the good biking trails mapped out and would love to show a few people the biking here. Just don't wear spandex.

Work / BEWARE of K&S Krakowska Szkoła Języków Obcych!! [41]

this is my thought too. My daughter's preschool had this type of thing happen to them- a neighbouring preschool hit the forums and slammed the preschool- it is quite silly and pathetic this technique.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Honestly- I don't think it is enough but perhaps I have different expectations than you might.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

I think 1500 euro is pretty good. Krakow is a beautiful city and you will have opportunities to travel- you will enjoy life in Poland with that salary.

PS. let me know if any of your students that want to have some conversational English.

I get you- perhaps because we are from the same part of the world. I don't know about teaching without experience, it is possible but luck is also a factor. Lublin is not as hip as lets say, Wraclaw, Warsaw or Tri city- but it is still nice.

As for hockey- In my experience in Warsaw- there is only one ice rink and everybody has to fight for ice time- I don't know how Lublin is. I think a hockey school in the summer is a good idea- but again, the ice availability is a huge issue. Perhaps you could do something different like endurance for hockey camp. Something like a jogging/biking/roller blading and of course hockey skills but off ice.

The hockey here has just no comparison to in Canada. My best friends son in Vancouver goes through rigorous training often two times per day- but when we had our kids in hockey here- we were lucky to get ice time twice a week then it was doing drills around pylons.

What is getting popular here is the down hill biking and enduro. Like the whole crank works scene- except for the tragedy of men wearing spandex outfits in bright colours- that I don't get....anyway--my oldest trains for down hill biking. We usually go to crank works every year and my husband and oldest bike whistler (without spandex of course)....anyway- this might be something for you- my kid belongs to a club that trains off season by running and spinning classes and if the weather is good they bike. If you are here in the summer, perhaps a bike club might work for you too.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Canada hasn't been hit hard- which is interesting because of our geographical location.

One of my best friends husband just sold a house in 4 days- he is over the moon.

Law / How do restaurants in Poland advertise [12]

In Warsaw there is a magazine for expats called the Warsaw Insider. It has restaurant listings and reviews. I have used gastronauci.pl before. Usually for us it is word of mouth.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

In Poland(in sh1tholes cities) there are large families of 4 and 5 living in 50 m apartments. That is bad.

Poland doesn't have the same issues with space as the western world. This is not outrageous to live in an apartment of 50m with two kids a dog and the mother in law.

In fact, I have a friend who grew up in the blocks in Warsaw Ochota in a two room apartment with a kitchen. the family all slept in one 20 m2 room and the babcia slept in the other. That is 5 people in less than 50 m2 space.

Even now that he makes good money he bought an apartment- during the peak so he over paid grossly, in Mokotow, Warsaw- in a low rise block and the place is only about 65 m2--two kids.

I couldn't live like that but many people can.

Work / A Korean guy got an offer in Poland (Walbrzych)... 8000PLN (gross) [10]

I took a Polish language course with three Korean guys- I got to know them and their work ethic. Honestly- that salary is nothing special for a Korean. I know the cost of living is so much higher in Korea as compared to Warsaw- but even saying that you won't manage to save a lot of money here in Poland.

You could do better for sure, but if you want to come here for the experience than you will really enjoy it. The language is hard- it is nothing like you know but it is still possible to learn. I can recommend iko.com.pl there were a good number of Koreans when I went here and they were all super nice.
