News / Attack on Poland's judicial independence [50]

very least an overwhelming majority of them whish that the EU would just butt off from the internal Polish affairs.

Until the moment the funds are halted. I can see how farmers deprived of their subsidies are happy and hail PiS government: Glory to PiS. We have no subsidies but at least we showed those EU bastards a finger.

Are you crazy?

On the contrary,They haven't learned anything at all. I

Of course they did, namely they once ignored Orban`s tricks which changed Hungary into an authoritiarian country. Now they aren`t going to let it happen in Poland. Thank you , EU. God bless you. :):)

Language / Looking for meaning of a phrase ("Yatz Gatz Spetagamie") [47]

The education lasted till my uni years when I chose German as SFL. I learnt at home with a private tuitor all that time. Later I dropped it and decades passed, but i`ts obvious a lot of things have remained in my memory. E.g, I remember irregular verbs and sometimes recall them teaching English ones.

But such a background can never be a good motivation to learn a language

No, it wasn`t and I resisted a lot.

Language / Looking for meaning of a phrase ("Yatz Gatz Spetagamie") [47]

How about being born much after the war as a child of Jews who survived the Holocaust but it left such terrible trauma in their psyche they couldn`t help transfering it on their offspring, too? Isn`t it possible? When were you born? E..g, I can say I am such a victim on the Polish side. My mother was so scared of Germans during the Cold War she made me start learning German at the age of 6 because she claimed only those who knew the language and were able to communicate with German occupiers could avoid death. She told me terrifying stories with examples to motivate me. They will haunt me to the end of my life.

The words next to Reagan - yes, they are a little important and you made them out quite well except there is one more: of communists` reign in Poland.

The second note presents a Polish communist politician of the time. The words under his head read: M.F.R. - gawron mniejszy - a lesser/smaller grackle.

With all this data put together, plus you said earlier comedy banknotes. it is really easy.

You are not a victim Lyzko and neither is any given Jew living today under the age of 85.

Of course not, counting is your weak point. It is enough to have been born Jewish in 1945 and lost parents/family in final stages of the Holocaust to have the right to consider oneself a victim. It makes 74 years. 11 years isn`t a lot to some people, to others it is eternity.

The opinion of such paid Kremlin trolls like you is useless, of course. It is obvious that you have to say so because your and your bosses` aim is to take Poland out of the EU and independent judiciary certainly is an obstacle.

The only museum set up in 1947 is in Koszalin but I still can`t find that memorial. That`s torturous - now I know how you felt before.:)

The brick building itself is 19th Century, but the museum within which houses the memorial, is 20th Century.

It reminds me of Pawiak in Warsaw. I have to check it.

PS. No, it isn`t Pawiak and Warsaw is on Wisła banks.

but it is a memorial to honour the members of a specific organisation.

Cursed soldiers? Many photos depict them wearing Polish army caps.

News / Attack on Poland's judicial independence [50]

Fortunately, the EU is intent on defending the independence of Polish judicial system. They just announced that PiS government broke the law. Good. PiS won`t be able to turn courts into their PiSlamist playgrounds where sentences are issued not by the judge but a party apparatchik from behind the scenes, like in communist times. .

An adviser to Europe's top court said on Thursday that a supreme court reform in Poland could undermine the independence of its judiciary, adding pressure on the Warsaw government to row back on changes that EU authorities say threaten the rule of law. (tvn24.pl)

Work / Opening a kindergarten / daycare business in Poland [12]

I am moving in August and wife will be working too,

Hello again. I checked a few sites from August last year and they had free places in creches/kindergartens in Katowice in 2018. So, there is hope. Currently, there is no such info for this year. the registration process hasn`t been finished yet.

Life / Politics / lifestyle / culture on billboards in Poland - examples [28]

1 or 2 years ago a small Polish organisation launched a campaign reminding the world who actually built and operated death camps in occupied Poland. The bilboards were mobile and in English and they traveled across Europe. That was the answer to the frequent use of the term Polish death camps which appeared in international media, even Germany proper.

Am Polonia took a similar action in the USA.

More later :)

It will be necessary, I am afraid. I am still struggling but to no avail.
One question - does the monument commemorate Polish heroism/deeds etc in general or is it devoted to one particular hero? I can decipher the ending SKIE in the plaque and it suggests sth general, e..g, SwiętokrzySKIE Province pays tribute to etc.

Lyzko, does it often happen in the USA that people discover their Jewish roots of which they have had no idea, e..g, after 50, 60, 70 years? Is it possible there?

Such sudden and uexpected findings happen in Poland due to complicated history of Jews in Central/Eastern Europe, hence my question to the OP.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

Apologies for picture quality......

No, otherwise we would be able to read the plaques and it would be too easy.

So, it isn`t easy as I thought before, being such an optimist. The whole monument is probably located in a brick corridor. The plaques on the walls commemorate heroes of WW2. I have seen hundreds of such plaques in Polish churches. However, googling church with such a monument brings zero results. I also checked two museums made of brick, Modlin and Cytadela, both in Warsaw area.

The eagle reminds a few independence eagles used on monuments around Poland. But the whole thing, especially those soldiers, doesn`t look so artistic and worth being made of expensive marble. It must be a cheaper material. But it`s not a temporary object, as the main plaque, which displays a cross medal and the slogan God Honour Motherland, is worn out.

All in all, I have to beg for a hint. But not too easy one, say it as a riddle. :)

E.g., if it is Poznań, you could say: it is located in a city where Queen Wanda didn`t dive into the Vistula River. Then I will know I should exclude all cities on Wisła banks.
