Life / Why are Polish people so obsessed with race? [160]

Why are Polish people so obsessed with race?

They are not, nor are they obsessed by Jews, Muslims, gay people, conspiracy theories and other such internet rubbish.

I met a Polish person once and they were normal, well I suppose she did have big feet and bad taste in music.

Life / How many people in Poland are atheist/agnostic? [11]

I also think that in Poland religion and culture are so mixed that if somebody was to deny the church they may get labeled something they perhaps are not.

Not just Poland, it's difficult to think of a country where this is not the case.

"Intellectuals" according to themselves. Militant atheists can actually be very narrow-minded. Just like some militant men and women of faith can be.

So what you are saying is that "some are some aren’t" well today is a day for revelations.

Language / Province or Voivodeship [36]

Province or Voivodeship
Both words are used in English just as canton and department are, they don’t require "specialised knowledge" just a bit of general knowledge about the world.

It would not be unusual to use these in Englandshire.

Off-Topic / The fees, cost per session of psychotherapy worldwide, especially Poland [6]

could you please try to guess the annual salary of psychotherapist in Germany?

No Idea but will guess about 70-100,000 euro before tax.

Edit:

It's not a con if that person feels like Barney afterwards ;)

You mean middle aged with the hint of a hangover?

Off-Topic / The fees, cost per session of psychotherapy worldwide, especially Poland [6]

I would like to hear if someone knows, has personal experience, about fees for psychotherapy, Poland and US, and your impression if they are expensive or cheap or adequately valued compared to other services?

I know someone who has two sessions per week lasting about 1 hour each. They pay £20 per hour one month in advance. This is via Skype to Poland.

your impression if they are expensive or cheap

I think this is the most expensive old rope ever

(Barney thinks it’s a con, the person is clearly addicted to this therapy but giving true info for Natasa)

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland by Peadar de Burca. They "turned their backs on a country that gave them" [195]

Did it have anything to do with the fact that while Britain with tens of thousands of Irish volunteers ,was fighting the Germans in WW1 a German/Irish American sponsored and armed insurection took place, treason and mutiny by the proper names? Was that what you were hinting at? Nope, oh yes, thats one of those points left off the all new PC history of the lovely innocent irish and nasty evil baby killing brits isnt it......

Calm down
There is a lot to be said about fighting for the rights of small nations provided one of them wasn't Ireland. I recall it was the Unionist minority who imported German weapons to prepare for a mutinous rebellion against HMG and nothing was done, treason, only if you are Irish it would appear.

No, it is attempting to try and drag some context to a point where most of us were actually alive FFS.

OK, the British army were sent to Ireland to put the Nationalists in their place, to restore Unionist oppression. Remember the Nationalists were asking for equal treatment within the UK.

Food / Polish-style spicy beets? [10]

Par boil the washed beetroot (save the small leaves) leave to cool. Wrap in tinfoil and bake in the oven until tender. Serve on a salad of beet leaves and other leafy salad with goat’s cheese.

For a more agricultural take use larger beetroot and roast on a tray with honey.

Beetroot is naturally sweet so goes well with cheese.

I love the smell of root vegetables in the morning.....

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland by Peadar de Burca. They "turned their backs on a country that gave them" [195]

So all things Unionist are right wing tory?

The Unionist establishment yes.

Working class Unionists have benefited from policies driven by Republican and Nationalist parties. This is the story everyone misses the devastation of the Unionist working class and it’s ridiculous that the only people fighting for their rights are Republican Nationalists.

what about British minority then ?

They will have a larger voice/say within Ireland than within the UK.

For what it's worth, I would have been a huge fan of handing over nationalist-majority areas in NI. Fermanagh, Tyrone and bits of Armagh could have gone south - and perhaps West Belfast.

Partition didn’t work repartition wouldn’t work either. It seems strange but the way the electoral boundaries are means Belfast is almost a majority Nationalist city, Derry is Nationalist as is Armagh, Newry, Omagh and Enniskillen. Unionists dont really have a rock solid major city/town outside of Antrim or North Down, also the patchwork of nationalist areas in the Unionist Heartlands combined with the huge areas that are majority Nationalist would involve massive forced ethnic cleansing again and that would be a nightmare, repartition would be immoral.

Why NI should be untied with Republic for other then political reason?

Because it’s one Country, a line was drawn by the British through the country dividing families, farms, houses and villages. Its an artificial line drawn to ensure a sectarian state existed.

Reunification makes economic sense for example a unified transport infrastructure would be a good thing. In the North the Unionist government built a motorway to nowhere, not to the second largest city in the north Derry or Dublin the largest city on the Island but to a field 15km from the nearest town. This is an example of bad governance that union with Britain brought.

The provision of health care is another area that would benefit. There are so many areas that would benefit from reunification.

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland by Peadar de Burca. They "turned their backs on a country that gave them" [195]

An Editorial in the Manchester Guardian 15th May 1886

Ulster Protestants cannot destroy geography; they cannot dissolve the thousand ties that bind them to the Irish homeland. Represented in an Irish parliament, they could effectually protect Irish Protestantism; if they hold aloof from such a parliament, they will repent it. They will have refused to throw in their lot with their fellow countrymen, and their fellow countrymen will have a right to regard them as aliens. There will inevitably be a constant invasion of the special rights and privileges of Ulster, which Ulster can only resist by appealing for the help of England. If England listens to the plea, goodbye to the hope of friendly and peaceful relations between the two countries.

Its too complicated to go further.

For Ireland or for NI ?

Ireland the entire Island.

In what way ?

How long have you got?

Governance is about providing for the People whether you allow business to take the lead or it’s planned (to a greater or lesser degree) by the powers that be. The Union with Britain failed to give good governance and Ireland...The Island....suffered and continues to suffer.

the question remains - why Ireland should be united?

Because the union with Britain was and continues to be a disaster for Ireland.

Actually, there was a poll done recently

It was called the assembly election which show the Belfast Telegraph's poll to be nonsense. (The Belfast Telegraph is a Unionist and therefore right wing conservative paper)

I wasnt lying.

You were when you said

They are also joining the RUC in large numbers. Big, big, big mistake.

The PSNI are not the RUC, they were removed.

There is now one Polish National serving with the PSNI.

Life / Expats/Immigrants in Poland: Needy, Greedy or contributor. Which one are you? [118]

Whether you claimed maternity pay or not is up to you; however, if you had a full-time contract, you were entitled to it, at 100% of your average salary over the past year.

Maternity pay must be claimed for and is a percentage of your normal salary depending on your contract. This is often extended by sick leave thus the nickname "eternity leave".

USA, Canada / Where do most Polish-Americans identify on the political spectrum? [142]

That was when every manner of leftist radical, draft-dodger, celebrity type, deviant sexual minority, hippy, libertine, religion-basher, anti-family type, ACLU activist, etc. began making an increasingly visible imprint on the Jackass Party.

The Right wing, war mongering, dead beat, prudish, square, fascist, kiddie fiddler supporting, child exploiting Nazis, does Polonia like them?

You can always go to North Korea if you wish to see a country without capitalism.

The state capitalism of Stalinist states aside, it is important not to pollute or polarise political debate with statements that fly in the face of reality, that was my point.

Needy, greedy or contributor sounds like something from a 3rd rate training manual for gerbils. As most have pointed out you cannot pigeon hole like that it doesn’t even work as a snapshot.

That sounds fine except it’s not reality. The galloping horsemen of capitalism do nothing else except milk society dry giving nothing back. There is no such thing as free standing capitalism it’s propped up with public money time and time again. Without state investment there would be no infrastructure, no innovation and no growth. Once they have sorted that mess out marketing men can point their judgmental finger at others.
