News / Prime Minister in Krynica on European integration [53]

Crow, Dalmatia was a part of Yugoslavia and not Serbia. Why the talk of that region?

Because he's a Serb and so views all land near Serbia as rightfully belonging to Serbia and all people in that region as targets for raping and/or murdering.

News / Prime Minister in Krynica on European integration [53]

it is really tragic to me to see desperate Poland`s situation.

Don't be sad: Poland isn't in a situation which is at all bad, despite what certain ultra-nationalist morons think.

And no matter how bad things get for Poland, at least Poles will also be able to justifiably look down on the pariahs of Europe, the murderous rapist scum that inhabit Serbia.

Love / Was the strict Polish family the reason for our break-up? [20]

Is this normal in a traditional polish family? My grand parents don't seem to hav any problem with hmy fathers decisions.

Some Poles find it far more acceptable for their son to have a black wife than they would for their daughter to have a black husband.

hubabuba
foreigners(also minority) can name their children whatever they like

No they can not, which is why nobody in Poland would be allowed to name their son Lê Văn Duyệt. And heaven forbid that anybody thinks Triệu Thị Trinh is a suitable name for their daughter!

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

I have a Polish passport and ID, does that give me the right to live in Poland? =p I'm Canadian by the way...

Yes it does give you the right. But is your Polish fluent? If not, you're not going to get much work.

Do you know anything on how much bartenders make, I need to make sure that going through school and all is worth it.

About 12zl per hour in Warsaw.

Law / Is there some way to extend the residence permit here in Poland? I have a tourist visa. [50]

get out from schengen normally via Russia or Ukraine , then I get the Stamp , then I return to my GF`s house illegally and stay there 3 months , go back to ukraine or russia illegaly , and reenter poland legally ... sounds easy no?

Sounds totally foolproof. What could possibly go wrong? All you need to do is to twice cross one of Europe's most heavily protected land borders and avoid any situations in which you might need to show your passport for the three months that you are illegally in Poland.

Personally, the last time I even went near Poland's border with Ukraine, my passport was checked more than once, and I didn't even leave Poland.

On the plus side, the average IQ in Poland will certainly go up after you get caught and banned from the Schengen zone for a good number of years.

Law / Is there some way to extend the residence permit here in Poland? I have a tourist visa. [50]

Why would you want to do that? Even if you do manage to cross what is now one of the most tightly guarded land borders in Europe, you'll still be in Poland illegally. You'd be better off just not leaving Poland (you'll be here illegally either way but at least if you don't leave, you won't need to explain why you have no Polish entry stamp in your passport).

Law / Is there some way to extend the residence permit here in Poland? I have a tourist visa. [50]

let say that my GF , or other polish individual that knows me (and know my situation), goes to speak to the voivod (the office in charge of residence permissions) , can that be a good reason to extend my stay here?

No. Most certainly not.

Can I do something ,within a week time , to get an extension of my residence ?

Nothing that would work. You could try claiming asylum but they'd probably just laugh at you.

Life / British working communities in Poland [12]

OWELL
are you serious? get the facts dude lots of polish doctors are in Uk not to mention engineers and scientists dude get out of that hole and see how poles are doing abroad esp in UK

This of course explains what those of us in Poland have noticed since Poland joined the EU: it is virtually impossible to find a doctor but it is very easy to find a plumber, a painter or an electrician.

Life / British working communities in Poland [12]

- Is the British ex-pat community a noticeable presence?

Not really. There are a couple of bars in Warsaw which attract the British expats but that's about it. There's nothing like the Irish community's St Patrick's day ball or the Burns Society's Burns night dinner.

- Is it in any way comparable to the Polish working community in the UK?

No, not even close. For a start it is far far smaller.

- How are relations between Poles and Brits working in Poland?

In the 16 years I have been here, I have never noticed any problems at work which could be attributed to British/Polish clashes.

News / Polish Students Striking in Lithuania [80]

Even some Lithuanian names are barred in Poland - for instance, Agne, Egle, Giedre and more. All valid female names, yet due to the requirement for female names to end in 'a' in Poland - no such luck here.

Also barred are all the names which require use of Lithuanian characters.

Law / Is there some way to extend the residence permit here in Poland? I have a tourist visa. [50]

OWELLThe answer is where are you from?

I do wish that people who know nothing wouldn't give advice which gets other people into trouble.

No it is not legal to take a train ride to the Ukraine in order to get another 90 day-visa. Once you have been inside the Schengen Zone for 90 days in any 180 day period, you must either have a valid residency permit or leave the zone and stay out for 90 days.

If anything, leaving Poland is worse than staying here: all you do is twice expose yourself to people who will take an interest in your passport.

More and more Americans are learning this the hard way every month.

Depox
what happens for instance if I overstay in Poland ,

If you get caught, you'll be deported. When you try to leave Poland, you may be fined and banned from the Schengen zone for a number of years.

Depox
can I begin some voluntary work , study or whatever?

Not legally you can't. If you are not in Poland legally (which you are not if you have been in the Schengen zone for more than 90 days in any 180-day period and you do not have a residency permit), you can not do anything legally and nothing you do will make you legal in Poland: you must leave and stay out for 90 days. Of course, if you overstay and then are not lucky at the border, you will need to stay out for a lot longer than 90 days.

UK, Ireland / Is moving to UK now a good idea? - antipolish prejudice of the Brits [231]

Funny you mention motoring offences Sid, my bf is currently 'at her majesty's pleasure' for that very thing

Good God! What did he do?! Getting banged up for motoring offences takes some real work these days. My cousin's paramour was recently up before the beak for dangerous driving while drunk and while disqualified (having been disqualified firstly for driving drunk and then having the disqualification extended for driving while disqualified). He got the disqualification extended again and 120 hours of community service.

Study / School of Polish for Foreigners at the University of Lodz [43]

I think that people who decide to live in Poland should know polish!

And I know that there are far better schools than yours (especially schools which don't assume that prospective clients are complete cretins).

Work / Tri-city area - Companies that offer Jobs for English speakers? [23]

No, Boy, I am right and that fact is proven by the experiences of people who do actually live in Poland and do have experience of getting jobs here without speaking much Polish. Of course, given that you do not live here and have never got any kind of a job here, it's not really surprising that you are completely wrong about getting jobs in Poland and what Polish companies expect.

News / Polish Students Striking in Lithuania [80]

Prove it!by providing examples of alleged discrimination.

Not allowing Lithuanians to use any Lithuanian surnames and first names which require Lithuanian characters would be the most obvious example. That and refusing to approve text books in Lithuanian for most subjects taught at the 'Lithuanian' schools in Poland.

PennBoy
It's fully understandable that Polish companies in Poland expect people to speak Polish.

Yet again you are showing how little you know about Poland: none of the Polish companies which have employed me ever expected me to speak Polish.

Perhaps it might be best if you Americans stuck to talking about your own country and didn't try to lecture us about Poland.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Really a four stars hotel in London for 50£ per night you say?

Check Hotwire, they almost always have four-star hotels in London for under £50 per night.

LwowskaKrakow
in Poland a long term monthly rent equals to the price of 4 nights at a London or Paris B&B

Even in Warsaw 2000zl per month gets you a decent flat in the city centre. If you are stupid enough to spend £106 (i.e. 500zl) on a B&B in London when four-star hotels can be had for half that much, your advice about buying property might not be too valuable.

Life / Buying or selling a laptop in Warsaw? [26]

I've never been ripped off there.

spandan21
PWEI, are you sure that i will get original branded laptops in that 2 underground passages.... is it walkable distance from central station....

Yes I'm sure you can and yes it is very walkable (ten minutes or so I guess), plus it is easy to get to (straight down one street).

Here's a link to the website of the market
wge.com.pl/
It's in Polish but you can use google translate on it.

Life / Buying or selling a laptop in Warsaw? [26]

Is there any computer shop in warsaw central station mall ???

Best place to look at the two underground passages on the corner of Aleja Niepodleglosci and Aleja Armii Ludowej (1km south of the central station). All the shops in Zloty Tarasy (the mall attached to Warsaw station) will be much more expensive.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

People like Palivec, PFEI and Nathan actively edit wiki before posting what they wrote as source.

Really? Do I? Could you be so kind as to either post a link to a post here where I quote from wikipedia and provide a link showing that part of the article which I quote was edited in the time between the post I was replying to and my post? Or is this yet another example of you simply lying about other posters just because when the truth is told you get your arse kicked by them each and every time?

Travel / Overstay in Poland (banned from entering Shengen for a few years?) [8]

I am hoping that if I am not banned on the way out, that they will catch me when I try to come back in and either make me fly back immediately or hold me in prison.

You are hugely unlikely to get put in prison.

I'd go with what Teflcat said: when you get to the airport report yourself for overstaying and ask them if they can let you off with just a one-year ban for overstaying.

Life / Poland's population predictions [59]

I don't get it? why wouldn't he be?

His parents are not legal residents and so can not naturalise as Polish citizens. Poland uses jus sanguinis for citizenship, not jus soli (i.e. it doesn't matter whether you are born in Poland or not, it matters only whether your parents were Polish citizens). This is how it is possible for somebody to be a Polish citizen despite never having been to Poland and their parents never having been to Poland but it is possible for somebody else to not qualify for Polish citizenship despite having never left Poland and their parents having never left Poland.
