Hey all,

I would like to know if anyone has a link for a site that shows the planned routes of Poland's highways. I do realize that much of it is being built right now and construction will continue on into the foreseeable future. I have checked on Google Earth, and Zumi.pl. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a map that shows the proposed routes of these new roadways. Does anyone here have any idea where I can find out this info. The more detailed the better.

Thnx

autostrady.pl is a good source too. I drove on the A2 twice along its entire length last month - it's a dream! Faster and far less crowded than the autobahns, though a bit annoying having to stop - I think - 3 times to pay 11zl each time.

What about the highways that are being built outside of the Warsaw area. For example what would be the best way to go from Warsaw to Mazury (Mrągowo). Would the S8 be the best route? Or would I have to take other smaller roadways. I checked this out on Google Earth and it tells me to take the 61 up to the 53 and then on to the 59. Passing through Ostoleka along the way.

Do you think when the S8 is completed that it would shorten the trip time? O what about the S7 when it is done it looks like it will take you very close to Olsztyn.

Unfortunately non of these roads (S7, S8) will be finished as soon as 2014 or later...

S8 is a motorway only to Wyszków (about 60 km from Warsaw) then it is a normal road packed with TIRs from Baltic States...
I am using it to get into Eastern Mazury (Ełk, Augustów) but you have to turn north in Ostrów Mazowiecka towards £omża, and then you follow 61...

S7 is a motorway only to Płońsk (60km from Warsaw), then it is also a normal road crowded with tourists heading from and towards seaside.

I would recommend you two routes which I've been using a few times this summer:

61 to Pułtusk, then 57 to Szczytno, then 600 or 58 and 59 to Mrągowo or
61 to Ostrołeka then 53 to Rozogi and 59 to Mrągowo

Thanks £ukasz,

One last question. Do you think after 2014/15 when the S7 and S8 are completed people will naturally stop driving on the 61 and the 57 to get up to Mazury?

Cheers

Autostrada, Poland? do they exist? I've been on one and just as i got settled at cruising speed with a coffee it finished and I had to drive down country lanes to get to warsaw.

According to my polish friends poland will have a motorway network which is better than the UKs by 2012.

I don't think so...
It depends on where they will be going - S7 will be passing lakeland west of Olsztyn so somebody going there (or to Ostroda) will chose that way.

S8 for a long time will end probably in Białystok, so it takes another 100 km to the nearest lake...
So people going to the central part of Mazury between Szczytno and Pisz will probably take those roads that I mentioned because it is really not that far (180-220 km)...

Thanks again £ukasz,

I would have thought that drivers would choose the faster expressways S7 or S8. When I looked at the map of the S7 expressway on Wikipedia I thought that it would have been faster than taking the 61 and then the 57. I then did find that the 61 and 57 roadways are all being upgraded in GDDKIA website. Maybe your right. Next time I go and visit Poland I'll be sure to check out the routes you mention.

Cheers.

Any comments about A2 motorway by Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A. What do you think is the future of this investment.......if i made an divestment at all........how do you think this will work......do you think this will help the polish?

The more motorways in Poland, the brighter her future. Poland needs good local and national roads Asap - without it the progress is hindered. So yes - I think it's a good investment; the demand is there. Invest your money in India first - one Indian autostrada free from bullock carts would be a minor miracle and the usual customs posts at each end will soon rake in the rupees.
