Shower curtains and mosquito/bug screens (for windows) in Poland.

Well go to REAL/Carrefour and buy a shower curtain rod, and put up your own shower curtain. I had to do that. No biggie.

Yes i completely agree with the lack of bugscreens on windows. What were they thinking. It sucks at night when you cannot have your tv or lights on without every bug flying around in the flat. effing annoying!!

and the fact that you cannot find an ATM in just about every shop like you can in North America.

OH yes.... how could we forget-- customer service??

I agree with you, it's not a big deal. I just don't understand why they don't build new homes/flats with them already installed. When i tell people/my family in Poland about these two issues they seem quite confused. Why suffer with mosquito bites or have to lay out towels in the bathroom when showering when there are cheap/simple solutions? Maybe i'm too practical. Meh, just my 2 cent contribution to this thread.

Wouldn't it be a big business in Poland if the window screens for bugs were introduced? Especially, in new homes? Such a little thing, but a huge improvement in quality of life indoor on a nice summer evening.

Bathtubs without a shower curtain and hand held showers drive me nuts too. I totally flooded my cousins bathroom the last time...
Luckily, most of my family members have them or they installed a shower cabin...
Another thing, there are no waste baskets in the bathroom. No place to dump my hair removed from a hairbrush but the toilet bowl, blow you nose and that's where you throw away the Kleenex too. Doesn't it get stuck at some point? ( I will not mention 'other" things) :)

on the subject of wtf... can anyone explain why in america you dont just put the price on the object for sale...

its like the ticket says $5 and then i take it to the till with my $5 bill and all of a sudden theyve added tax to it and its a totally different figure

why not just put what i gotta pay on the ticket...?

wtf

lol. I bet the ticket actually says $4.99 :) and tax "doesn't count", just the price of the item. Tax is a given. hehehe.

Don't they do it in the UK? I thought Poland also has a tax on top of the price, if remember correctly since the last time.

both countries put the price (including tax) on the ticket - that way you know what you gotta pay when you go to the checkout... thus avoiding awkward moments when the ticket say $5 so you give the checkout girl $5 and then have a few moments of staring at each other like someone doesnt know what they are doing...

Yeah, this tax thing is stupid. You don't pay taxes on groceries. You can buy a raw chicken and bake it at home, but if you buy a baked chicken in the deli, you have to pay taxes on it. Figure it out.

People are more likely to buy something that costs $99.99 than if the price tag said $115.00. Psychology at work.

But i don't like it either.

Psychology at work

That has actually put me off going there. Right - I'm going to unpack my bags right now and plan a trip somewhere else instead.

Did anyone mention the melange of wood, trash and coal many people heat their homes with? I don't consider myself very sensitive, but man, that has to be the most terrible thing for me in Poland.

Well, since you Polish girls have such an undeserved opinion about me, I moved to the UK.

so I am I. I don't like those screens either. So, people can install them if there weant to, but I don't want to bew forced into having them.

I like having an option of sticking my head out of the window.
