Try and think of the most useless things in Poland.

Electrical switches , sockets , and light fittings are pretty useless....Mind you the ones on my farm have probably been there since 1939...

Napkins in restaurants. Those little square see through ones.... Yeah, you know the ones I'm talking about.

The person who designs the slip roads and all infrastructure for that matter should be shot. Some have filters some do not and the signs are tiny little squares usually so dirty you cant read them anyway.

Oh and road directions. Virtually non existant.

Zebra crossings - They only seem to put them 2 metres from the exit of every roundabout or traffic junction. Even the junctions with traffic lights which causes complete havoc!

gd67 has stopped all traffic at 10 consecutive zebra crossings within 1 km with the correct on his last post!

2) Indictors on cars (they never use them

The worst thing in Poland is not so much the indicators, which they never use but the alcohol, which they never seem to be able to go without. The roads are dreadful with one of the worst road traffic death rates anywhere in the World. After drinking a bottle of vodka, you can soon see why I would never allow my children to live there.

The price of wine in Wasaw restaurants - Instead of going out for a meal, the reality is that you are going out for a bottle of wine or two, with the food thrown in for a fraction of the price!

Perhaps this thread should be merged with 'How much do you hate Poland and Polish people'.

Actually no - If you look at the replies, from what I can make out, they mostly come from people that have a genuine interest and affinity with Poland. If you ignore 'noimmigration', I don't see any 'hate' in this thread, just factual observation, admittedly exaggerated sometimes, but more or less on the money.

You could have a similar thread 'The most useless things in Britian' and you'd get a whole load of replies. There are many useless things in this country, but it doesn't mean I 'hate' it. In fact, if everything was perfect, things would get pretty boring.

For example - Etudia, has to be one of the worst terminals in Europe, but I quite like the place, it has a certain character that I am sure I will miss if they ever get around to openning T2! It's still a useless Terminal though.

So NO, don't merge this thread, just don't feed the trolls ;)

..............and, they don't have a name day for 'Gary' gutted!

This is the heaven that Michal does not understand.

He's just a nonconformist. He can't like anything most people do. It's against his code.

Crosswalks in Poland. You take your life in your hands when you cross the street.

True. But it is the only crossing point where you are insured.

Inkrakow........to be honest, its bl**dy dangerous driving a right hand drive on the roads here!!!!...when you are overtaking a large truck, you have to put half the car on the other side of the road before you can see to get past it, AND watch out for other drivers overtaking you at the same time!!!!

i live in Canada and we are allowed to import RHD vehicles as long as they are 15 years old. my brother imports RHD right hand drive cars such as the Nissan Skyline and Toyota Hilux Surf directly from Japan.

Electricity sockets that come out the wall when you pull the plug out.
Parking regulations.
ATM machines that only dispense 100zl notes.
Shopkeepers and taxi drivers who react like you've pointed a gun at them when you try to pay with a 100zl note.

Oh its normal then...i thought it was only happening on my farm because the stuff was old....And while we are on the subject.....Why can,t they make light fittings that actually fit to the ceiling rather than dangeling on the wire four inches below it.....

This is true of chandelier type fittings. The above does show up shortcommings in Polish building techniques.

............shortcommings in Polish building techniques

I'm afraid that's a pretty unfair generalisation. The new developments, both residential and commercial, that I've seen recently are of a far better quality, in terms of workmanship, than here in the uk. (The standard of design is a completely differnt matter. But I would say that wouldn't I)!

The 'Socialist Realist' architecture and it's build quality, thrown up quickly under the Communist regime, however is, I agree, very poor. But this will undoubtedly improve over the coming years as buildings are refurbished and the public's expectations and demands increase.

Just my 2p worth.

I could fill a page pointing out where I disagree. I'd be happy to discuss it on a new thread.

Shower curtains and mosquito/bug screens (for windows) in Poland.

My cousin recently moved into a newly constructed flat. The washroom only had a bath tub with a shower head but no curtain to prevent water from splashing all over the bathroom floor!! Apparently in Poland they don't make bathtub-showers with curtains. The result? One really wet bathroom after a shower!

Also, i've yet to see a window with a mosquito/bug screen. People in Poland open their windows during the summer for fresh air but fail to put screens in their windows to prevent mosquitos from getting in. The result? One hell of an itchy body in the morning!

Why doesn't anyone see this in Poland?

I just had to let this out. I feel better now:)
