'Why are foreigners coming in Poland?'

You and Masks could probably co-chair that one as well.

After all those slang lessons and the possible differences between AE and BE...
Has anynone had experience with English teachers from Asia and Russia who work in Poland? What I know is that there is an increasing number of Chinese business companies that settle down in Poland... perhaps, they brought them with. In 2002 it was quiet common to hire Russian English teacher to make more profit...or due to the lack of native speakers...The earned less money and got all those problematic courses.....

American people are often adventurers

I remember hearing recently that hardly any Americans own passports.
I am not an American basher, I just thought that this was worth a mention. Who knows the way things are going Americans might need to que outside the Polish Embassy in the future for the chance to get a visa!

I do a lot of travelling and seldom meet Americans outside of the USA.

differences between AE and BE...

AE and BE is just the tip of the iceberg. It looks as if the English language will break away from itself in the not so distant future. Irish English for example we do not pronounce "th", it is a lot easier for people learning English not to say "th" as I believe that sound does not exist in any other languages.

The English gave us their language and we gave them back literature.
The only time (american and british) people think it is funny is for the words "thirty three and a third" ;)

This is true. Some of us get out, but many are comfortable staying here. I think everyone should experience what's outside the US at least once. I always hear sth like "I have everything here, why would I leave"?

Irish people are very proud of literature, aren't they? And British people are very proud of question tags, aren't they?

yoaab... back to the question....from which countries do they come... I mean the foreigners....why do they come? Why could it be interesting for Americans? Maybe they are just looking for new homes, but I think there is another reason...They feel safer in Poland....but joke aside now....Do more and more people live in episodes? Do they take Poland as a new chance? Do people think that it is still cheap there?

I thought it would be cheap here, then I got to Warsaw and got a reality check real fast. Some Americans I recently met had been living here since the 90's. They were part of the Peace corps, met a girl here and stayed. Some come here purely to teach english, but many are here because of a girl. they also realise the opportunities here. People who bought land here ten years ago would make big profits if they resold their land today. Things used to be cheap and that made some people stay here, but thats changing i believe.

I moved in because i was offered a good job.

I work in a multinational company in Poland. Most people who work here with good salaries are foreigners. The trent is like all the Polish are going to U.K for plumbing, building, construction work etc. And all the large companies starting here are bringing foreigners to work.

The reason i was told for this(while i was being recruited) was 'no qualified and experienced people within the country)

In between....i read southerns posts in many places. he seems to be a slef pissed guy who thinks Polish are the best. They may be best in some areas...like the worlds strongest man is from Poland

I dont even want to go to the 'IQ' topic.....who ever argued on that topic is just stupid. better you start another topic saying...'racism...come here...be a racist'

Southern...you need to be educated.....May be you were brough up like this.

Was in Ikea the other day in Wroclaw, had my dog in one hand my Ikea merchandise in the other and some security guard said somethinbg to me, I responded with Tak tak and then he said hey r you English in perfect albeit American English. Turns out he thinks America sucks and is here for a change, I met David again today at Ikea and I have to say i quite like him.

Youre spreading out the same as us. I know almost as many Yanks in Wroclaw as I do Brits most of them teaching English. Most of the yanks are gone after 4 months though.

I think a lot of people have lost their orientation nowadays wandering around like bedouins. Threatened by unemployment they make trips to all places. Globalisation touches practically everyone...there are only a few hillbillies in our modern world. Worth mentioning that there are only a few countries where people try to maintain old traditions, but modern life accelerates the decline of cultures. To take part in a culture is quite different to being a locust for a while. I don't mind being a job hopper, but I try to leave a trace. That's the point why the question is really interesting...Why do people come to Poland? How do they react on family culture in Poland?

Turns out he thinks America sucks

I can't say it sucks. I don't like the way the country is being run, but it doesn't suck. Just for the fact that I can enjoy Snowboarding, go to the beach or hang out in NYC all within an hr makes it a fun place to live, but I do think we need to experience sth different.

I'd like to try living in PL, not because I hate America, but because I can :) I think since we all share this planet, we should all be able to experience different ways of life.

I'm more interested in going to PL to open a business. I see some opportunity there, but im sure there a many obsticles and I wouldn't go unless everything's sorted. I'd hate to be a visitor and end up on the streets. Must prepare well IMO.

I hope to move to Poland when I'm a little older. Right now, I'm still having fun getting the most out of New York, but eventually it will be time for kids. My intended is Polish, and presuming all things work out, his country seems like a nicer place to raise a family than mine. Plus, we already go every year at least once and his parents come to stay with us for about a month in addition. It would be nice see them even more without paying so much airfare! Plus, I work for a company that just opened a huge office in Wroclaw, which seems like a great city for a young couple. For many people seeking a stable place for families, Poland is a good choice.

I'm afraid that life in the United States will be more difficult in future. In such a huge country energy supply plays a key role. I wouldn't like to be the witness of the downfall which was caused by George. The scarcity of energy resources is remarkable. So back to your roots, it doesn't hurt!
