Candidate of "Hope and Change," Breaks Promise, Leaves Poland Defenseless

The EU

Ok, if the EU cannot protect "one of its own" through diplomatic or militaristic channels I'd ask what the advantage is in joining.

The EUis primarily an economic community. The advantages are enormous.

First is free trade within EU borders. Goods and services can be exchanged between EU members without tariffs. This has led to massive investment in Poland. Put a factory here at relatively low cost, and export your products to any EU country. Or base your services here and offer to other EU countries. EU membership has greatly benefited the Polish economy.

How about rule of law? EU membership means compliance with EU directives. This has forced Poland to update its laws to bring it into compliance with the rest of the EU. A lot of it is industrial law and intellectual property protection and so forth, but also civil and criminal law. And integration with EU Court of Justice. It's called EU integration, and has helped fight corruption as well.

Then there are EU structural funds. EU has provided over 50 billion euros to Poland, which is used for many kinds of projects. Business can apply for funds, also used for infrastructure projects, and public welfare. Often you see signs on public works that say EU helped fund this project.

These are a few examples of EU advantages.

Dawid , excellent Points here. You brought some stuff up i did not even consider.

I agree completly!

Poland should ride any wave it can to benifit itself.

Yes totally, Poland must ride the wave! :) Of course EU does come with a price. It is a self-aggrandizing propaganda machine. See here:
members.tripod.com/eurotruth/06.htm

Still, now is best time to absorb EU funds and ride the wave as long as possible!

Great War started because Russia mobilized in defense of Serbia.

Bottom line is that Russian support to Serbian liberty meant, Russian support to liberty of all the Slavs, no matter that Russia received signals from Serbia that can`t expect that Serbia obey to her.... and Russia entered in WWI on the behalf of Serbians and happened what can not be... happened liberation of Slavs

The economic negatives of the EUare the sometimes unrealistic demands in the environmental area (Kyoto), labor law, , trade (agricultural subsidies), special exemptions of policy (France/Germany given extensions to meet budget deficit requirements below three percent of GDP to avoid financial sanctions) and taxes.

The citizenry must engage in economic activity and the business sector has to be free to attain a higher level of competitiveness.

I fail to see the need of a centralized body to ensure that rights and freedoms are guaranteedd for all.

If the fear is that sovereignty leads to malevolent leadership thus limiting the freedoms of people, does it not follow that a centralized group of oligarchs have greater power and leverage over those same people?

Bzdura. Russia has never wanted liberty for all Slavs. Russians are very quick to use the "Slavic Brotherhood" sales pitch to their own advantage, often finding eager ears, but history has shown that only the foolish fall for this trap. Russians are interested in glory for Russia, nothing else. Liberty is at direct odds with Russian style of centralized rule internally, and certainly in foreign relations.

At time of the Great War, Russia had already participated in three partitions of its "Slavic Brothers" in Poland to seize lands for the Russian Empire. Conditions were so backward that even today, former Russian partition is far behind rest of Poland in development.

Russians supported Serbia not for Slavic Brotherhood, but because Tsar wanted to weaken the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Serbia was the perfect Trojan Horse. Serbian army was one of the toughest most battle-hardened fighting forces in the world, and its involvement helped lead to the downfall of Austro-Hungarian Empire, one of Tsar's prime rivals for control of eastern Europe.

After Bolshevik revolution, Russia again did not seek liberation for Slavs, but rather communist ideological revolution.

And how can we forget Stalin making a deal with Hitler to partition Poland and seize Baltic states in 1939. I suppose this was also to guarantee liberty for Slavic Brotherhood?

"Slavic Brotherhood" nowadays often means ultra nationalists and skinheads, and Russian officials are eager to find such people, appeal to their fantasies, and use these feelings to manipulate them with empty promises. In the end, Russians will take advantage of you.

Best approach for Russia is as Sikorski says, pragmatism. Judge by actions, not words. Learn from history.

exactly

That`s why they sometimes failed, even many times but, they never invented ideologies of genocide on other Slavs. They were selfish and they oppresed but didn`t have intention to exterminate other Slavs.

That`s how Serbians managed to influence Russians and mobilize them arround Pan-Slavic goals.

On the other side, countries and elites on western parts of Europe initiated ideologies in order to exterminate Slavs. Today`s Poland is in alliance with Slavic exterminators and attacking other Slavs on the behalf of mortal Slavic enemies.

No, i don`t accuse Poles but their corrupted, dangerous and criminal leadership.

And the Serbian leadership is a model to be imitated?

eh, of course not. All traitor after traitor, all idiot after idiot, most of `our leaders` are corrupt politicians, puppets.

Serbs also has similar problems these days. But, majority of Serbians feel ocupation. Are Poles aware that EU force just another `drang nach osten`? What needs to happen so that Poles become aware of this and react?

"It will help both the [NATO] alliance and Poland and the United States respond to the coming threats," Rice said. "Missile defense, of course, is aimed at no one. It is in our defense that we do this."

Don't be naïve, how can you believe what Bush's friends say?...

What I find confusing is that a group of Russian experts were invited to inspect the shield and they seemingly declined. Surely that constitutes sth akin to a formal assurance that no weird shenigans will take place come installation time.

no problem. It can be arranged

Poland is member of EU and NATO? that fact would sooner or later make that Poles go crazy, that`s for sure

Poland has given Russia the option of inspecting and monitoring this missile shield whenever she wants. I'm sure they'll eventually come and take the tour.

So why the premature missile threat? That's like guilty b4 proven innocent

That's like guilty b4 proven innocent

Of course the problem with like is that it always has that not quite like the thing it's meant to be like feel to it. Like.

If I can smell bacon sandwiches and you invite my celebrity chef to check the kitchen for spitting frying pans I think i'll rely on my nose in the name of cost cutting, but as a militant vegetarian i'm still going to be threatening to switch on my glade plugin at the first whiff of porkies. :)

That`s why they sometimes failed, even many times but, they never invented ideologies of genocide on other Slavs. They were selfish and they oppresed but didn`t have intention to exterminate other Slavs.

Not entirely true.

- During early Soviet period, Russia deliberately exterminated an entire class of Slavic people (landowners, intellectuals) to make way for communism. Millions perished.

- In 1932-1933, Russia deliberately exterminated up to 10 million Ukrainian Slavic brothers in the Holomodor, now recognized officially as a Holocaust.

- In 1937-1938, Russia deliberately exterminated up to 2 million Slavs, from all Soviet republics, in the Great Purge.

- From 1929 to Gorbachev era, Russians deliberately sent up to 20 million Slavs through Gulag system. Most were worked to death.

2007-2008 - Russia is threatening nuclear extermination against Poles for the topic of this thread.

And why? For hosting 10 small rockets, without warheads or offensive capability, which can only be used to intercept ICBM coming from someplace like Iran? Using only kinetic energy. Like setting up 10 giant slingshots.

Russia has a strategic arsenal of 10 000 nuclear weapons. Do 10 defensive rockets pose a threat? And especially rockets, which when launched in Poland, can not intercept Russian ICBMs because they are in early-stage trajectory? Interceptors only work against ICBMs in middle-stage trajectory launched from somewhere further, like middle east.

And Russians also use this as a pretext to escape from several other conventional force agreements. They are no longer allowing inspections. And by the way, Americans already gave Russians an inspection of similar anti-rocket shield in Alaska.

My concern now is that if Obama decides, that it is no longer a good idea, Russians will think their bullying worked, and be tempted to do so more.
