The EU
The EUis primarily an economic community. The advantages are enormous.
First is free trade within EU borders. Goods and services can be exchanged between EU members without tariffs. This has led to massive investment in Poland. Put a factory here at relatively low cost, and export your products to any EU country. Or base your services here and offer to other EU countries. EU membership has greatly benefited the Polish economy.
How about rule of law? EU membership means compliance with EU directives. This has forced Poland to update its laws to bring it into compliance with the rest of the EU. A lot of it is industrial law and intellectual property protection and so forth, but also civil and criminal law. And integration with EU Court of Justice. It's called EU integration, and has helped fight corruption as well.
Then there are EU structural funds. EU has provided over 50 billion euros to Poland, which is used for many kinds of projects. Business can apply for funds, also used for infrastructure projects, and public welfare. Often you see signs on public works that say EU helped fund this project.
These are a few examples of EU advantages.
Ok, if the EU cannot protect "one of its own" through diplomatic or militaristic channels I'd ask what the advantage is in joining.
