re: Yes, even 60 years after the war we Poles still feel its effects

- And so do you, Germans. Don't you? Don't you, Butty, dwell compulsively on WWII and its aftermath? You do, just as we do.

Does that sound like a democracy to you?

I don't think that the US system is very democratic...with only 2 partys and this confusing voting system...but it's yours and you seem to like it so I won't criticize...*shrugs*

Again the same. The people who support Bush actively know very well why they do so.

I have said this before....mostly politics comes down to money, then power, then people--- if there is anything left over after the first two are addressed. Follow the money trail, and you will find those who have a controlling interest (I mean that figuratively as well as literally).

Maybe...but would you please explain your "since ages"-sentence?

I don't like it.....but damn, it seems to be carved in stone or something. There is annoyance at small partisans who try to wiggle in and "split the vote". They are viewed as a tool to help or hurt the big parties.....to sway an election.

Actually...even the names "Democrats" and "Republicans" are misleading for Europeans...they don't mean the same here...it's really confusing! :(

How'd you guess :)

The only thing you can do, as an Ammie (or any nationality), is check out as many news sources as possible (including foreign) and compare notes, taking into consideration the source of the info....and consider what is to be gained by whom for the particular "spin" on the information

It is fricking exhausting....no wonder so many people don't bother!

If EU declares Hasselhoff t-shirts obligatory for every citizen.

does that mean you will wear one too Mr G

I observed over the years that (especially afte 9/11 and at the building up to the Iraq war) many otherwise intelligent, charming, likeable people became thin skinned nationalists who reacted to EVERY critic at Bush or his policy as if attacked personally and lashed back out, declaring friends to enemies.

"You are either with us or against us!"
Just recently things seem to loosen up again...

I didn't like Bush before 911, during, or since then. Just so you will know....
:)

I liked Clinton better for the good he did (internally-reduction of crime, reducing the inherited Rebulican deficeit, improving economy). I could have cared less about his sexual activities. If only Washington and Jefferson had to undergo the same scrutinty, this country would have collapsed at the start.

If there must be a separation of Church and State, I would also recommend a separation of Sex and State! :D

But the right wing would call me a "godless liberal" :)

Do you have some "good dish" (gossip) for us? :)
I don't know of any sex scandals....what was so raunchy as to upset everyone?
Maybe I have false impression that "Catholicism" is majority, yet not feverently practised.

Here...a margarita for you...:)

Thanks, sweetie :*
I needed that! :)

Absolutely. It is a shame that he had to lie about it though. If he just came out and admitted it, then I for one would have had more respect for him. He has won this back for all the good work that he has done and positive results gained since those days.

They may have well of said "Anyone who doesn't like war is GAY".

Such was the motivation of the USA. But Hell, something like 60% of Americans cannot point to Europe on a map. And there are more of us than them! Just a shame that they are the ones with their finger on the nuclear weapons.

Tell that to the Poles after the recent sex scandals.

I did like that story. Most amusing! Almost better than hunting for witches!

But I understand why he felt he had to....don't you think a confession would have be tantamount to "game over" to his term? What would have been left of his administration after the Republicans and the media finished up?

It may have been a more calculated decison to lie....let it drag out while finishing up business that needed handling... That's what you have to do sometimes....

re: Maybe...but would you please explain your "since ages"-sentence?

- 'For ages.' - The drive to 'the East' (including Poland) in the Middle Ages. Prussia of Friedrich II. Bismarck's Germany (e.g. the invasion of France). WWI. WWII.

Your philosopher Nietzche mentions the horror of 'the blond beast' in Europe. Your great poet Heine suggests that when the Germans rise up the whole world shakes.

What SCANDAL in Poland? Anybody?
Bratwurst Boy  8 | 11803
1 Jul 2007 /  #261
Puzzler...

I think you have a myopic view on german history!

Compared with other countries we had ONE really bad deed in 2000 years (WWII), we surely weren't the bad guys "since ages".
Everything else is nothing out of the normal....

Quite to the contrary...we were often enough victims ourself like in the thirty years war or the napoleonic wars...

re: What SCANDAL in Poland? Anybody?

- Perhaps the media allegations - never proved true - pertaining to Agriculture Minister Lepper. Just stupid stuff fabricated by the likes of the Gazeta Wyborcza (the most disliked rag in Poland).

Like what? And do you see political motivations behind accusations (I mean....isn't there always!)?

Oki :)

Thanks, BB! :)

Butty, yes, in the Thirty Years War you were definitely victims. But it wasn't us who mistreated you.

Well, and how about your invasions of Poland in the Middle Ages and later? Even Himmler spoke about Poland as the country that blocked the German drive to the East for 800 years, didn't he?
Bratwurst Boy  8 | 11803

I never said you were! *sigh*

But I still don't know where this "since ages" comes from?
After the destruction of the Holy roman empire of the german nation (since the death of Charlemagne actually) Germany was splitted into sometimes more than 500 little statelets...hardly threatening, weren't they?

It was Great Britain and France who did build up huge empires through war, not Germany!
Puzzler  9 | 1088

Shopgirl, yes, there are political motivations. The Gazeta Wyborcza (consisting of militant Marxist-zionist hacks, some of them sons and daughters of prominent commie figures) perceive Lepper as both ignorant (he's a farmer, so the drones regard themselves as superior to him) and 'populist.'
shopgirl  6 | 928

You still haven't told me what happened? Who had sex with whom, and who found out? :) You are leaving out the juicy parts! :)

Shopgirl, they've alleged he molested sexually a woman from his party. Now it's just enough to see Lepper's looks and hear how he speaks to know that the charge is utterly absurd. But of course there should be a better proof, and, to my knowledge, there has been a police investigation which, as far as I know, has proven nothing against him.

Yeah, you should see Lepper in action. You'd have fun.
;)))

Oh, and he's a very good agriculture minister. And he's Gemini too.
