UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Brits travel quite freely around the world. We move to other countries for x number of years and use the health systems there. What's wrong with Poles doing it, as long as they pay their dues. They have some cheaper health care options so why not use them? It shouldn't be a quest to keep Britain wealthy.

Then what do you propose? The floodgates were opened quite a while back and employers are hiring many Poles. Contracts have been signed. OK, let's assume that I am against mass immigration, what can be done?

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Well, you have a good point but many Poles are setting themselves up as doctors and dentists, professions that are generally admirable. The Brits like to invest with good capital behind them, that's true.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

The Poles are not the most racially tolerant people in the world, that's true. I'm sure there are some black Brits here somewhere as Poland hires many English teachers in various schools. Not only Africans. Jamaicans wouldn't have a good reason to come to Poland.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

I've read it and it sends out mixed messages. Many people overspend and that's their choice, thay have to live with the consequences. I'd say Scots tend to budget better so the stats may apply to England more. No causal connection was established linking this economic downturn with the Poles. The job market, truth be known, was bad in 2001, filled with pathetic jobs, and that's b4 the Poles started to flock across in 2003/4

History / Jewish love towards Poles [389]

Which is why Jews are targetted for abuse. Fine, have ur views, but don't tresspass on others territory. I'm sure there was nothing about Poles and Jews being divine entities in either the Big Bang or Steady State theories. So Brits, or any other Christian nation for that matter, are not the children of God, just Jews? Come off it!! Holier than thou weirdos have major chips on their shoulders and should be ignored

Language / Useful and the most common words in Polish [50]

Wiec is another Polish favourite, it is like therefore/thus. Po prostu means sth like simply. W ogóle is like 'in general' and is also widely used. Jasne means either light or clearly.

Language / What language do you like better, Polish or English? [71]

Marek has a point, take disciple and discipline. One is pronounced sigh and the other si. How do pronounce the word semi? Is it sem A or sem I? Or look at OUGH, how to pronounce that? The answer, in 7 different ways. I could go on and on as I've taught pron and phonetics quite often

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

In defence of what Blackzilla said, I have encountered a lot of anti-Black and anti-Asian sentiment here and this is not nice. At football games, they make monkey noises when a black player gets the ball and shout "czarnuchu". Pretty hostile!! Yeah, players like Mark Walters of Liverpool and many others got that, but years ago. Many Poles admit to not being tolerant, mannerly and racially non-biased. Not my words, theirs!!

Ian speaks out, hehehe. The freeing of Poland was more of an international moral obligation. Poland was victimised by a RADICAL philosophy and their attempted obliteration was unwarranted. Many Poles actually fitted Hitler's Aryan philosophical ideals anyway so it was Hitler that was the hypocrite

That's also true, many people have surprised me in Britain with their racist views. Football brings out such opinions. 'I'd rather be a Paki than a Turk' being one such example. That's not inflammatory?!!! This being caused by the Leeds - Galatasaray problems. Leeds, as djf said, is an area where racism is very much in evidence.

It's not really stealing jobs as getting a job requires u to go through formal procedures. It's a question more about being the right person to do it. But it is frustrating that more Poles aren't taking their chances in their own country.

Language / Useful and the most common words in Polish [50]

Ah, u r from Iran Moonsa? Nice!! One of my students went there and he loved it. Michał is right but again he uses old Polish. I'd argue that most Poles would say szczerże mówiąc more than his offering.

He was in Tehran but he is Polish. He felt comfortable. How do Iranians view different Europeans? More useful words in Polish. W sumie is like all together, Wiesz? is U know? Szalony means crazy. Oh Boże is OMG.

I cannot comment on the German language as I don't know it well enough. I have found Polish to be much more phonetic than English. It's just the cases that get me. Polish and German are purer languages. Oh, btw, have u seen the Youtube video with the German coastguard? Just type in Ad Berlitz and it should come up.

Considering moving to Norway djf? What skills can she bring to the Norwegian job market? If u thought Wrocław was expensive, Norway will blow u away. Oslo is the most expensive city in the world and Norway is VERY expensive generally. I hope she doesn't like beer as the price is exorbitant there.

Genealogy / Polish Silesians? [25]

They do have many different words but it depends which part of Silesia. Here in Gliwice, it's a lot weaker. Go to Ruda Sląska or Swietochłowice and u'll hear it thick. Bana = tram or train. The A often becomes O, e.g Masz becomes Mosz. In Opolskie, u can hear Mos as they don't pronounce sz. The same with chcesz and wiesz.

I think u have been reading about Red Watch Michał. They are brutal skinheads but many countries have such people. I never fear for my life on a train

Language / Common mistakes made by foreigners in Polish [90]

Definitely the endings like bez szynka when it should be bez szynki. I guess also they'd have problems with mam rękawiczki and nie ma rękawiczek, this difference.

UK, Ireland / Working with my Polish friends in UK [28]

Given that it is the SCOTTISH benefit system, it's quite likely that the cheats are Scottish. So what? There are opportunistic people everywhere.

Language / Common mistakes made by foreigners in Polish [90]

Kioko has a good point. Like in English, there are subtle changes that us foreigners cannot hear so easily. For example, the difference between wies and wiesz is clear for Poles but not always for us. I guess that foreigners, when they count for example 6 of sth, will often mistakenly use ów. For example, jedno okno, dwa okna, szesc oknów but it should be okien. I used to use the instrumental case in the wrong way too, e.g pałeczkiem but it should be pałeczkami

Life / Who's thinking of moving to Poland? [67]

I agree with my Scottish compadres, I feel safer here in Poland than in Aberdeen for example. Gliwice is a city of study so there are many academic types. There is a definite mafia contingent here but they aren't hostile towards us foreigners. Scots tend to like Poles. Noimmigration, u'd c it 4 urself if u came out here man. The Poles like us!!
