UK, Ireland / We welcome Polish people to Britain! [224]

I agree, the UK has many great places to go to. We should welcome fresh blood but those immigrants who don't get the jobs they want shouldn't be too dispirited as the same rings true for many Brits.

UK, Ireland / We welcome Polish people to Britain! [224]

The Scots have been remarkably tolerant as maybe they are more sure of the skills that they have and what they can bring to the job market. I'd like to see it this way but maybe the reality is that Scotland hasn't experienced the second wave of Poles. The English were initially welcoming to Poles but when hordes starting coming across, the tide turned and the tune changed. The job market was swamped. I have the same fears of Macduff. Scots and Poles are quite alike and that may help keep down any flare-ups

Look at their history, they've both been a** r**** by their neighbours. Both are very hospitable. Both like to complain. We both fight our case strongly. Need I continue?

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

Let's change the point, future generations of Germans suffered huge guilt complexes after the Holocaust. How do I know? Well, my girlfriend's parents are Silesians who speak fluent German and Polish. They were frowned upon heavily in Poland when they spoke German, their first language. However, they were both born in Silesia, Poland. I also met Germans who expressed their guilt. Any intelligent person knows that they weren't to blame and shouldn't be held to account for the actions of previous generations, not even generations, individuals rather

Scotland did pretty well in their group. Had we beaten Georgia, we'd have been home and dry. Beating France twice is shite is it? At least we didn't draw with Macedonia, AT HOME. Ruling 1/4 of the world is nothing to be proud of unless u r an imperialist. U ought to read The Scottish Enlightenment sunshine, to see the impact we have had on the world, yeah, little old Scotland. Some of the best inventors, engineers, politicians, u name it. Try reading that b4 u get on ur high horse

Life / Do Polish people respect other cultures? [96]

Having conducted several cultural classes, I don't think Poles are that culturally aware, often operating through stereotypes and generalisations. It's getting better tho.

Life / What is a Polish neighbor like? [21]

U can't generalise PolskaDoll. I know many Scots who are appalling neighbours, like in most countries. What is a Polish neighbour? What is an English neighbour? What is a Japanese neighbour? The answer to the third question, much quieter than the rest. Let's all be thankful that we don't have gun-toting neighbours like in the US

Life / what is the most common and the most beautiful name in Poland? [58]

Ania, yes, but I booked airline tickets under the name of Ania, my girlfriend's Polish name, but I was told that it had to be Anna, like on her passport. Their pedantic handling of the matter pissed me off which is why I use the name Anna now

Love / Polish ladies seem to be in high demand at the moment. [105]

My friend worked in Poland for 1.5 years and is now working in Albania. He said he prefers Albania. He's back in Poland for a while and he told me some Albanian words, cool. He works in Permet. He did say that he was in high demand, with school girls, hehehe. Poles have great natural features and amazing figures.

Food / Polish Restaurant Prices [20]

Pierogi for 6 quid, that's expensive. I can get 7 pyrogów for 4.50zl, about 85p. And they are VERY filling and tasty. That's from a milk bar (bar mleczny). For 6 pyrogów in Gazdówka, it's 14.50zl, that's 3 quid only. That's a top class restaurant that caters for business clientele. So, 6 quid is steep

UK, Ireland / The Changing Face of Scotland - we need more immigrants! [178]

I don't profess to be well up on the dental industry, I was just basing it on what I heard. If u r right, then u r right. What I do know is that Polish dentists are welcome in Scotland. We offered them golden handshakes as I researched the issue on behalf of sb. Sweden is also but that's beside the point. We need more working immigrants. Many of the jobs I saw going in Job Centres back home paid peanuts and had less than favourable conditions. Such places attracted alkies who felt that they should have a look at what was on offer but not commit. Immigrants want to set themselves up more than some of the characters I saw in Scottish Job Centres

UK, Ireland / The Changing Face of Scotland - we need more immigrants! [178]

The job market changed, more job share schemes started popping up, part-time work became more common, both of which weren't what most Scottish graduates were looking for. Therefore, they looked elsewhere. Immigrants have different expectations of the job market but much depends on keeping immigration at a managable level. I can remember scouring through newspapers and doing many other things to get work but it isn't easy in Scotland if you aren't in certain lines of work

Food / what kind of sauce should I make for my gołąbki? [63]

Experiment with different sauces. U can have grzybowy, pieczarkowy or borówkowy, all of which match well. Poles tend to favour tomato sauce but Poland is a country that is rich in mushroom sauces

Alex Salmond, SNP MP, seems to think we need more. I watched him speak in Glasgow many years ago and he is a very articulate guy. Record keeping and compiling accurate statistics gets harder when immigrants don't register or work for less than minimum wage but diversity has been appreciated in places like Inverness where they have managed to get jobs as waitresses or hoteliers

Why are Poland a disgrace because they are not wealthy? America was one of the wealthiest countries in the world and look how it misspent its wealth on evil. Granted, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland are good examples, being amongst the world's wealthiest countries, but that doesn't make Poland a shambles.

Again, no offence Greg but being better educated, more creative and working harder doesn't guarantee wealth. Professors are educated but not always loaded, scientists are creative but often get paid little and manual labourers work hard, poorly paid too. The problem lies with the Polish govt in increasing salaries

Scotland is wealthy by most standards, we have some great industries. I agree with szkotja24, please recognise that the thread is about Scotland as we are a separate (not independent) country

Love / What is Sexy to men and women in Poland? [101]

ROFL, all a headache. Nothing like a bit of light-hearted fun. Accent seems to be a big turn on to some women. Esp Scottish and Irish ones

Wealth is a relative thing, it depends on ur classification systeminter alia. People who do PhD's (doctorates) are often not taken on by companies out of fear or a perception that they lack 'real world' experience. They often don't get a chance to be 'wealthy'. Also, let's assume that wealth is ur goal. Talking about it bores people and will lose u friends so u r just satisfying urself and like-minded wealth-obsessed individuals by talking about it. I know many people who went to Uni, dropped out but are now very wealthy. It is widely known that graduates often do jobs not befitting of their education and unrelated. Becoming wealthy is often an art, perfected by a few and not 90% or anything like it.
