Life / Do Poles Lack in Social Skills and Etiquette? [74]

The inconsiderate nature of not actually hurrying up and acknowledging the turn of others is incredible. The young dudes have basketball practice before us footballers and they are to finish at 21.00. They seem to steal an extra few minutes every time and end when they are good and goddamn ready. Bad etiquette!

I like the social skills in the local mountaineers restaurant. It's always service with a smile and they really treat you like a valued customer. They are very well-trained gents and, as such, I always tip well. Give out good vibes and you will likely get them back.

UK, Ireland / Poland vs. UK - how the manners differ [48]

I can't remember so many Scots shouting cuss words so loudly on the streets. The number of 'kurwa' or 'ja pierdole' shouts by hooded twats is incredible. It's quite embarrassing!

Shopkeepers in Scotland are more receptive in the main, esp the small local shops where people know one another. Here, the old biddies come in and say 'dzień dobry' to the floor. I've never seen so many wannabe snobs dressed as peasants and tarts. The 'do widzenia na odpier*ol się' is also a laugh.

Also, I noticed more people acknowledging their turn in Scotland. If a shop assistant became free, most Scots would invite the person in another queue who was before them in. Here, only a small handful do that.

Aha, thanks. The tram etiquette here was a mixed bag. Sometimes young folk would let the oldies on first but I think they got a wee bittie hacked off with the old duffers taking liberties and ramming their way on anyway. Flamin fogies. Some of the old hags are ruthless so I didn't always give up my seat. If they looked nice, I would.

Maybe because I went through automatic doors to work for 3 years here (2 years in quiet buildings) ;) ;) Maybe if I wore some lipstick and puffed up those man boobs? ;) ;)

That's true, I've known many people to burp and fart at the table. Better out than in ;) ;) Not very nice at all really.

Some families, like mine, take their shoes off when entering a house but it's more widespread in Poland. That suits me just fine as I had to do it in Japan all the time. It's very much a rule there, not an option.

I don't think thanks is said often enough here at all in Poland. Ta is often said for quick thanks when people are on the move.

In 5 years in Poland, I haven't seen a man open a door for a woman ONCE.

There isn't that much staring in Poland at all. Then again, I've experienced Japan and noticed it more readily there.

Cheers is not rude at all. It's for closeness and I often use it with good vibes. It is often said with a smile which is more than can be said for some here.

Don't give gifts? It depends!

Forceful poking? I've never seen that. Gossip is gossip, the stuff I hear here is dreadful.

I saw a guy get run down today and there are so many close shaves that I've seen. The crossings are a disgrace, often positioned just by intersections. Some cars just go way too fast.

Telling on one another happens here too and in a very nasty way, trust me.

Higher prices for foreigners happens everywhere where they think they can get off with it, in every country.

Greetings? I've never heard of what you described.

The trams were a symbol of sorts. Scale doesn't dictate symbolism.

You seem to be discussing mass immigration more. On that point, I agree. I've said it before, PC will be our downfall.

Who knows, right? It's good to be positive and work with that but you have to paint as full a picture as possible. Life has people pinging about in all directions and some need reaffirmation or even first confirmation of sth. Take marriage, for example. Why do you think that quite a few reaffirm their vows? Surely they thought that it would be for life when signing the contract the first time!? Uh uh! Life isn't quite that simple and we need a clarification of the position. The same with contract law, an area I've gotten back into. It doesn't hurt to ascertain intentions, really. Like it or not, we live our lives in phases and we shouldn't just put the blinkers on and choose to see what we want to see.

There's little worse than being used in life.

Well, the trams were destroyed here in Gliwice. They had been part of the fabric of the city for a very long time indeed. It wasn't just a pilot scheme that they floated, you know? Why? From an insider source, a relative of the mayor wasn't happy that the ground shook a little in his new flat and arranged a petition. It was a foregone conclusion what the result would be after rigging.

Poland will see that day, mark my words. It is part of the globalist agenda. It's time to start imagining ;) ;) Measures will be put in place soon enough to entice foreign nationals to Poland. Do you want to wager on that?

That would make sense. Polish people save a lot in the UK, it's sth of a convention. They dream of their return to 'paradise'. In the interim, they need love and sex so I'd take what sledz said on board.

I'm not saying your lad is like that but I've heard way too many stories about cheating going on. The Catholic sticker gets ripped off.

Some of us can have that effect on others. When there's a radiant glow from sb, only the most ignorant can't pick up on it. Gotta put the good vibes out there in the hope that you get sth back, otherwise life becomes a lesson in futility.

I really think the education system should shoulder a lot of the blame. I see many young Poles think they are hotshots, that they are somehow gifted beyond all recognition. Then they realise the harsh reality of working life and their 'knowledge' goes out of the window half of the time.

Maybe it's just my old head on calm shoulders that sees that. As for etiquette, I had a classic today. One of my pet hates is not having locks on doors. The toilets at my school don't have. Still, I went in the main door and there are 2 toilets behind closed doors. Rather than cough and splutter or clear his throat, a guy sat like a prize fu*kin prune on the throne and I opened the door to see him sitting there with his kegs down. When he saw me, all the fuc*nut could think of to say was 'zajęty'. I figured that you dumb pric*! I had no way of knowing he was there.

Still, a woman said thanks for me holding the door open so that almost made me faint through shock. Manners exist, hallelujah! I think that merits some Cohen or Buckley. Ah, some Cohen, Hallelujah

Britain and Poland seem to be experiencing a mutual numbness. Some people here wouldn't be out of place in a zombie movie. WAKE UP! Indifference is what is gonna cost humanity dear.

It wasn't God that wrote the ineptitude contract.

Good point by enkidu. Every payment has a donator, though. The British middle class are paying through their teeth to maintain this system which doesn't really benefit them directly.

Cordial relations are based on more than benefits. Many people don't appreciate them and come to take them for granted.

News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

Also, it costs a bloody fortune just to get a bit over the border due to the lack of good connections. I remember wanting to go to a place in the north of Slovakia and thinking how bad the options were. I'd just drive now.

Gliwice is not the best for restaurants. It had a placed called Something Different but the rent was too high for the upkeep of the building. Gazdówka is a good bet.

I like the joke postings by Nika and Joe. Of course many Poles have social skills and etiquette. You just need to squeeze it out of them more as it doesn't come naturally to many.

Poles themselves can spot 'wieśniaki' a mile off. They are the boorish types that you need to avoid but they can be found in different cultures. Your lad sounds like he's not like that. He is not one of the kurwa boys, those hooded wan*ers that can be found in quite a few places.

News / British ambassador to Poland accused of "ignorance" for supporting gay rights [70]

If he was acting in accordance with policy then, prima facie, that should be fine but wasn't Himmler just acting under policy too? ;) ;)

He was acting in a different capacity which can change things but he is just a person after all and I wouldn't have found that offensive in the slightest. It is not for us to banish those seen as social miscreants. Politicians are the true reprobates.

Let is slide, it lies well within the boundaries of tolerance as it wasn't those flamboyant gays that parade around.

Girls can really have a big influence on this one. If a guy asked me, I'd probably recommend watching it at home from a download but it's just different with a girl at the cinema. It reminds me of the Pulp Fiction sketch where Jules asked Vincent if he'd give a guy a foot massage, LOL. That's kinda how this is :)

Besides, would you really wanna be alongside a member of the same sex in a dark room? ;) ;)

Isn't your boyfriend Polish? What does 'the best' mean? It's a nonsense phrase without further specification. Poland is still behind in some areas but has the technology of tomorrow in IT.

Doing well compared to Russia? Care to explain?

Travel / Travel for learning about living in Poland, Suggestions? [19]

Płock is where the cases of swine flu were localised so I wouldn't go there. Just go in with an open mind and few preconceptions, that'll increase the thrill factor. There aren't so many faux-pas than can trip you up so enjoy it.

Some do and some don't, like anywhere. I think slonce made a good point in that many Poles prefer to eat indoors as they can prepare some really good stuff. If they do eat outdoors, it tends to be grabbing a bite on the way home like a kebab. Many Poles take great delight in saying 'idę do domu' (I'm going home). It's where their family often is and they generally love to chat with them.

I wasn't much of a cinema person either until my partners got me into it. Girls like the romantic feel of the cinema and it is cosy. Dinners too. Maybe he just likes the quaint feel of your place.

Be careful not to mistake preference for ineptitude.

History / Russians are Ugro-finnized Poles - no way around it ! [44]

That mix works remarkably well for me, Borrka. I could look at such women quite comfortably. I didn't see a striking resemblance between Finns and Russians when in Helsinki but, then again, I wasn't really looking for that.

Good old Genghis! :)

News / To whom Zbigniew Brzezinski sold Slavic Poland ? [12]

The man is aware of the importance of the Caucasus but so is Russia. Obama and Biden won't further antagonise Medvedev and Putin in that area. Brzezinski will not have his way with Russia.
