Life / Six degrees of Kevin Bacon w/ Polish actors [16]

this is controversial(ish)...
jerzy stuhr & cameron diaz shrek (polish version?)

considering the inherit difficulty of the polish six degrees, we'll take it:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek_the_Third#Main_characters

so who's next, Krystyna Janda?

Life / Six degrees of Kevin Bacon w/ Polish actors [16]

Oh man, I almost had it, I was just researching it.
I was going to say:
1. Wojtciech Pszoniak in "Kill the Priest" w/ Christopher Lambert (haven't seen it yet, but I hear it's good)
2. Christopher Lambert in Highlander w/ Sean Connery (classic!)
3. Sean Connery in Never Say never Again w/ Kim Basinger (another classic)
and from this point on I would follow Mermaid from her previous post:

Kim Basinger & Tim Robbins in Prêt-à-Porter
Tim Robbins & Kevin Bacon in Mystic River

Oh, well I've lost. I had it in 5 steps, so I would have lost it anyway.

Life / Polish man finds wife working at brothel [43]

A Polish man got the shock of his life when he visited a brothel and spotted his wife among the establishment's employees.

LMAO that's hilarious! I hope that she gets all the money from the divorce, since she was there to make some cash and support the family while he was there to just spend her money! LOL

Life / Do Polish people tend to stick together? [49]

Do Polish people tend to stick together?

I think they do, especially the ones who do not learn the language or have some other difficulties assimilating to the new culture.

Life / "I can spot a Pole a mile away" - Polish fashion? [146]

SANDALS WITH SOCKS! That used to be a tell-tell sign of someone fresh off the boat from an Eastern European country. It's all changed now, since sandals with socks became popular with the young college crowd... LOL

Life / Luxury cars in Poland [42]

Nissan 350z

If it's not a chick car then it's a very fruity car... in a good way, of course.

A man's truck: Ford f-150. anything bigger - you're trying to compensate for something... anything smaller; oh well, not everybody can be Mr. Cool like me... :)

UK, Ireland / Polish girls 'too pretty' for British schools [150]

Young teacher the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

UK, Ireland / Polish girls 'too pretty' for British schools [150]

I'm just glad I'm not a teacher, bro. I work in a casino, amongst some scantily dressed waitresses - but this is more of an adult environment, so it's different.

Life / Must See Movies in Polish? [65]

In my movie library I have only one film in Polish, but it's a good one: "The Saragossa Manuscript" (1965).

The Saragossa Manuscript was a favorite movie of Jerry Garcia, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. They bought the rights to this movie and restored it in the 90's.

The movie is a multilevel collection of "stories within a story", similar to the Pulp Fiction, with many simultaneous time-lines and narrators.

Work / Average Polish Income is 2700zl per month [65]

you can't rely on official statistics when it comes to things like the income. The true income is always higher. I just looked up the median income in Michigan - it says $48000/year per household.

Let me tell you something - i don't know anybody who makes this little here. nobody. I can't imagine anybody surviving on 48K per family. But these statistics include people on welfare with free housing and food stamps, soldiers, retirees, single people who live along, and - most importantly people who don't want to pay any taxes, who in fact hide their true income. Between me and my wife we make almost 3x that and trust me- we are not wealthy by any means!

So if they say 2700 count it as at least double; plus you have cheaper cost of living etc.

Love / Polish Girlfriend obsessive and not trusting [59]

One thing comes to mind talking about Polish women; absolute lack of any trace of logic.
The best way to describe them is this: nice to look at and impossible to live with. And that's only true with the younger girls, older women are ugly as hell and really ******. I hope I wasn't to indirect in my description.

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

Polish chicks' attractions to Black Men?!

Yeah, I see it all the time at work. I see Polish girls with Black guys out on a date. But I also see Polish dudes with Black girls. I also know a couple of Polish/African-American marriages. That's good.

USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

I am voting for Tony Blair

Avalon, I think it's time to put down the pipe, dude :)

A Baptist minister and a presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee promises to amend the constitution to outlaw abortion. At least he is honest about his believes, unlike all the other politicians I can think of.

Food / Typical Polish Diet [22]

Do you have breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper?

Breakfast: coffee, more coffee, cereal and coffee, then some coffee.

In the car on my way to work: a double espresso coffee.

Lunch: soup and a salad or a salad and a sandwich and... ice tea (sometimes coffee)

On my way home in the car: a double espresso coffee.

Dinner: enchiladas, or pasta, or tacos, or stake, or whatever w/ a side of salad and a beer or two or half a dozen.

USA, Canada / Cleveland couple and expired visa [15]

the fact that recently, I even described it in a post about a man who was mexican
came over and killed three kids , then we had the other guy who killed
all those college kids. and a dedicated family of Polish who are willing to do anything
it takes to stay in the states and be productive citizens are getting shafted!!

I agree that this really sucks, but on the other hand you just can't say that you will kick out all the illegals from Latin countries and let illegal White Europeans stay. I don't think that UN and ACLU would like this idea very much.

USA, Canada / Cleveland couple and expired visa [15]

I think if the story had been about a Polish guy who was illegal and was robbing stores and old people no one would complain about his deportation, it's more the fact that it was a young family.

I agree. If you ask me we should open our borders to the EU. Why not?

USA, Canada / Cleveland couple and expired visa [15]

Yeah, but U.S. is 2x as big and has 2/3 of population of EU. We have room! Plus no migrant worker from EU would ever travel here to compete with the South Americans. It costs to much to travel and Europeans stand no chance in competition w/South Americans.

USA, Canada / Polish cuisine in South West Michigan? [5]

The Three Brothers is a family restaurant in Plymouth, MI with excellent food, good service and very moderate prizes. The interior look is clean, although simplistic. My favorite idems on the menu are stuffed cabbage and barley soup, both of them are outstanding.

The Three Brothers Restaurant is definitely worth checking out. Smacznego!

Life / Racist violence in Poland [172]

I think you are 100% right, Clickyclock.

They live in wretched neighbourhoods, in wretched accomodation with wretched jobs so all they have to hang on their chest with pride is that they are white and therefore superior and justified in attacking non-whites.

Add to that sometimes educated and intelligent people are being forced by the economic realities to do often demeaning and underpaid jobs abroad striping them from personal pride that comes with individual achievements in life.

My hope is one day when the standard of living and the economy get better, maybe then things shall change?

Seems something about being under the Soviets.

Yeah I noticed the level of nationalism is similar to the one in former Yugoslavia after the fall of communism. Thank God Poland is a country without national or religious minorities. Who knows what would have happened then.

Food / Smoking Food in Poland [17]

Maybe instead of a smoker you should build yourself a barbeque? A smoker is a great idea, but a barbeque is more useful. Or can you use a smoker as a barbeque also? I don't know...

Read this Sadek (Wikipedia):

Ethnicity and religion
In terms of ethnicity, Poland has been a homogeneous state since the end of World War II.
(...)
About 97% of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Church, with 58% as practising Catholics

News / Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways? [73]

Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways?

IMO Global Warming will affect Poland’s economy in a big way. There are IPCC plans to put a $30-$100 tax on every ton of CO2 and coal is the biggest CO2 polluter out of all the energy sources used by man today. Coal has been a pillar of Poland's economy, that's why taxes on CO2 will hurt them so much. Unfortunately, unless some radical steps are taken now, this will surely throw Poland down the bankruptcy path.
