USA, Canada / Are there any Polish communities in Georgia? [26]

Wow! So many great ideas and many of them are right in my friends' backyard. I have moved to Daytona Beach and have forwarded your ideas to Greg and Gosia. I am enjoying working in a resort area and have met many Polish people. It is easy to recognize the accent and I greet them in Polish and BAM we have a conversation. My Polish skills aren't improving, but I am having a great time conversing with others and learning more about the country.

Thanks for the ideas Kennitz. I have forwarded it to Grzegorz as he lives in Lawrenceville.

Mikey, I attend a mass at St. Marguerite Catholic Church. It was interesting as I was the only non-Polish person and the entire mass was in Polish. I had difficulty, but it was a wonderful experience!

Travel / Cooltourcompany - opinions [6]

Never heard of them David. I would check in to what organizations they belong to.

I am a student tour operator in the US and am hesitant about other companies on the web. There are several organizations that they should have some sort of affiliation with (thus protecting your money). I didn't look around on their website long, but I didn't notice a mailing address and both toll free and local phone numbers. Any company that doesn't have that information on their website is too scary to use in my opinion.

If I can be of any further assistance, let me know! Happy travels!

I like Atlanta its a fun town

Atlanta is great! I have been here almost all of my life. I absolutely love Chicago, but hate the cold... In fact, it is my favorite city in the US. I usually go there a few times a year for business, but don't think I'll be there this year. Grzegorz lived there once and didn't like it. I just hate that their mom is so lonely!

Life / JOKES ABOUT POLISH. Have we deserve it? [68]

You have a red beak though ...

Yes, but my neck isn't red (unless I get embarrassed and then perhaps it turns red as I tend to blush)...

Careful Rover, she's got that piercing stare, like she's going to gobble up your carp without notice.

I always notice the carp before I feast upon it. As Rover said, sometimes carp can be in impure places... One cannot be too careful!

Life / JOKES ABOUT POLISH. Have we deserve it? [68]

I remember hearing a few Polish jokes as a kid in the US. Funny thing now is that my friend Grzegorz calls me a redneck all the time and makes redneck jokes because I am a Southerner in the US. I might have to try some Polish jokes on him and perhaps he will get the point that I find his redneck jokes offensive because I am NOT a redneck.... Thanks for letting me vent... I feel better now!

Move to Chicago.

If only it were that easy! I was getting nails done today and a girl came in and started talking to the person doing her nails. Turns out she is from Poland and she and fiance are in Georgia, but they don't really know any Polish people here either... Oh well... Perhaps I should start searching the Chicago area for a home for them to relocate!

That's where I met Greg and Gosia was in Florida! Funny how there are people from all over the world around here, but cannot find any Polish people for their mom to befriend (other than relatives)... Any suggestions?

USA, Canada / Are there any Polish communities in Georgia? [26]

My friends, Grzegorz and Gosia, recently moved to Georgia. They have been in the states for 14 years. Their mother visits them often, but she misses Poland when she is here. Does anyone know of a place in Georgia (near Atlanta) where she could go and meet other Poles? She says she would enjoy it and perhaps she would then have friends to visit when she is here instead of sitting at the house alone (and bored)while her children are off working.

Thanks for your help!

Food / Lovely Polish drinks! [13]

now, would this be the cloudy kind of apple juice that you pick up in the healthfood stores, or should it be the clear, beer coloured stuff? Or does it not really matter?

I have only ever had it with the clear stuff, but it is amazing! I would think it would work well either way.

Or maybe I should just get myself back over to Poland to find out for myself.

You could do that too! I haven't ever been there, but have had a good deal of Zubrowka and apple juice... Probably is even more amazing to have it there...

Love / My Polish guy won't tell me his feelings about me - is it usual? [15]

Ancilla,

I hope it is not unusual as I have been "friends" with a Polish guy for three years. It has been a very strange relationship because if I mention "love" he says I had better look elsewhere as there is no such thing as love; however, anyone (including his family) all say I am his girlfriend and they can't wait until we get married, etc. I have tried to talk to him about his feeling, but have finally given up. I just enjoy the time we have together and don't worry about if it is for now or for always...

Good luck to you! I hope the ring is for you and you get it soon...

Language / How do people mispronounce your Polish names? [60]

ven officially, they call themselves Les, Joe, Dave, Harry, Jerry, Ben, Tony... For me, it's a bit funny that the U.S. even had a president simply called "Bill" like an old mate of yours from the local pub.

Funny, but so true. My name is Melanie and I cannot tell you how many people call me Mel. I hate being called Mel and refuse to answer to it. When I was dating my Polish friend, I insisted my students pronounce his name correctly (I even taught them how to greet him properly in Polish). He loved it and they eventually started calling me Wacheekski a combination of his last name and mine.

Too bad the new last name outlasted the relationship, but it is true that the English speaking countries don't take time to respect and learn more about each other by appreciating a good name!

Love / how do i get rid of a girl? [90]

Especially her panties.

I had a Polish guy do that the first time we were intimate... Of course we had been drinking vodka all night.. Have to admit they didn't fit him and it was rather silly, but it totally matched his personality... I just figured it was a Polish thing and I wouldn't understand!

No one likes rejection but we get over it. Better than leading on someone or doing a disappearing act or making up an excuse.

I couldn't agree more, Softsong!

Tell her the truth and move on. If you tell her and she keeps emailing, you are then free to disappear and ignore her. At some point she will understand that you were serious and move on. Some people are a bit more stubborn than others, but everyone gets the point eventually!

Be honest, but nice.

Food / Blueberry Pierogi's [30]

I just add sugar to the tops of the fresh blueberries. Never tried freezing the dough, but wouldn't want to do that. Rather work with fresh products to guarantee great quality!

Mmmmm pierogis are so good :P One of the many benifits of having a Polish girl as your partner is that you're never hungry!! haha

Come on now Forever! I cook more Polish food than my Polish friends!

Love / When a man first holds out a hand to a woman - is it polite? [24]

Is it the same in UK or anywhere else in the world?

In the Southern US a handshake is certainly acceptable; however, I have found that women tend to offer their hand before the man does (perhaps he is worried the woman won't accept his hand?).
