Life / Local Poles taking advantage of foreigners living in Poland [235]

- No, you didn't say it literally, but it can be concluded from your post.

until you put down in one post what i wrote here and give a good f'n explaination how your interpretation could be logically concluded from what i wrote then no sir you are completely and utterly wrong and mistaken on this matter.cheers.

*edited* what comparison did i make to polish drivers and the rest of the world? go back and read what i wrote, come back and apologize. cheers.

apology accepted. in your defence i think you might have missed the bit where i specifically wrote that i couldn't compare polish drivers to the rest of the world.

It is simple.Puzzler is used to people finding CR better than Poland.(like Michal). So he supposed that Foreigner did the same because Puzzler had no experience of czech customer service to suspect that the sentence meant something different.

that's just it though, who is someone to call me a racist even if i had found something in CR that I liked better than in Poland? In this case i didn't but there are other things that i do, in fact, there's tons of crap i like and dislike about other countries as well but j.h christ people get defensive here when ya write something negative about a small aspect of life here.

You either are a pu*sy and then should shut the hell up or you fight for your own

so either fight or accept what you feel to be crap treatment? yes, a very progressive approach to the 21st century.

It's funny cause on the face of your arguement it's so compleletly wrong, yet if people did adopt that approach more often we'd live in a world much less tolerant of people trying to cheat others (hypothetically). There's so much to agree with and disagree with in the approach you put down there. It's really a fine line imo, some stuff is worth the hassle of a fight and whatever direction the fight goes and other stuff is just healthier to blow off in a different avenue of life.

Life / Whats driving like in Poland? [70]

just came back from a lovely ski trip and i have to say that for the most part drivers were more responsible than ever this week, maybe ferie had something to do with it. At the start of it, i saw loads of accidents last friday and saturday but going up to the mountains it was incredibly civil. But leaving only one major collision and maybe 3 overly aggressive drivers out there. Then again i left there and back with plenty of time so maybe i just was in spoko morroco mode this week.

Life / Polish Driving Licence. [314]

adamek: if the legal drinking age in Poland is (i'm not sure if there is one actually lol) let's say 18, does that mean an 18 year old Pole can legally drink in the US?

Life / Opinions/experience about the Polish Police [40]

i have only good things to report with the polish police, they weren't 100% "by the book" but they did their job sensibly like they were actually thinking, not like a lot of cops i've come across back home.

now, the traffic quasi-police, y'know, the kind that aren't issued sidearms, those jokers are a different story altogether.

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

pinkjewel may be on the money, sounds like a bit of a dated embellishment at that. be smart and treat being in a crowd of strangers as being in a crowd of strangers and you'll be fine.

Life / From North America to Poland [17]

why on earth were you not sent to a school of where you'd speak the language and it looks like you and your folks have to plan stuff together a lot more, this could have been a great experience for you.

Really what the hell were your folks thinking? That it would be pretty freakish to try and get used to if you've gone to a canadian system your whole life is sort of a gimme in your scenario.

Law / Do non-eu residents residing in Poland require Polish driving license? [20]

have one from where you're from and do an in and out every 3 months (sucks) or get an accompanying international driver's permit to go with your regular licence (it expires when your licence expires but only lasts a year from issue). There are at least a couple threads already about it so do topic search on this website if you're curious for more (hope this doesn't come off as curt, but it's popped up too often as of late).

Cheers

Work / For all English teachers in Poland (who work for only $1000 a month) [102]

Quoting: Jonni
you should be able to clear 5000pln after tax in a good month,

Most natives are not worth half that!

AGREED!
as well, maybe I'm just old fashioned but isn't putting your income up a little bit "gutter" or at least just bad form?

Life / Teachers and teaching styles in Poland [6]

Interesting...
I'd say, whatever you do, put the oweness on them to do the speaking. Make sure it's motivating and actually gives them a reason to communicate in another english. if they are rowdy or bored that's a clear indication that either motivation or stimulation provided by the teacher and or materials is lacking. Encourage them through proper preparation to do the lion's share of the communication in both questions and answers.

As far as correcting, it really depends on what you can do well and the language being focused on.

Ensure that whatever vocabulary or grammar you want them to practice (as a main goal) is either pre-taught or just remind them of that if they know it BEFORE your activities.

moving between being the "teacher" and observing facilitator can also work.

I'm not sold on the idea that a teacher can actually teach a language at all. A language can be explained only to a degree; I think it's common enough that some teachers confuse their teaching students about a language (or just talking a lot)with students actually acquiring language skills.

Good luck

USA, Canada / Possibility of bringing back a Polish person to America? [5]

if you want an accessory then i'm sure you can find one in usa. going to another country in search of a woman to bring back home sounds like a guy is looking for a "relationship" where he holds all the cards-pathetic really. Ok i'm f***ing off again. cheers

Love / A Polish Married Girl Rocks my boat!! [54]

Somebody tell me how can I make her melt in my arms!!!

She tells me that she loves me..But being a human being I have no way of reading her mind!!

well then why do you need the advice stated in your first post? maybe this is just a troll.

Ironically I found out today that she said to someone that "a bartek jest super mezusiem " which probably means that her husband is a super husband!!
I don't know what to think of it all!!!!

well start by thinking you are selfish to the nth degree regardless of what you think. fact.
and if a woman cheats on her man with you, then she'd cheat on you too. fact

there are plenty more fish in the sea. fact

if you think that you 2 will live happily ever after then you're dumb. fact

i had this dilemna when i first came to poland but i never pursued things to the point you obviously have and am glad that i didn't make those choices. have some courage and self-respect there are plenty of great women all over the world but if you continue to act like the cad you have been then i sincerely doubt you'll attract the right kind of woman. actually, never mind, i hope you keep it up and maybe, just maybe, the husband can catch you 2 and give you what you want-rip.

good god man, pull yourself together! You brought your kids into this world- give them the stability you'd have wanted for yourself as a child. c'mon, do the right thing, something you can be proud of when you look back on this.

UK, Ireland / "Half of Poles in UK plan to return home" Telegraph article [8]

i wonder how the economy will be able to reabsorb those who return.
If there is still high unemployment here, what will they do, will they start their own small businesses?

I am skeptical that those "planning" on returning will actually do so. what constitutues "planning" according to this survey anyhow? I have my doubts as to the sincerity of those plans, perhaps it's more a comment on home sickness than anything else.

I do feel for the avg. brit though it seems that big business interests definitely take priority over the wishes of the people when it comes to border accessiblity imo

Language / "sorry" instead of "przepraszam" [76]

i agree with jones101.

Also I personally feel the amount of english signs and slogans used in the advertising sector is not only poorly done but really takes away from polish charm as well.

the Silesia City Centre should be renamed imo.

Genealogy / Look for my Father: Vlodgimierg (Włodzimierz?) Stanisław Rosa from Krakow - he was a musician [2]

i checked his name out on onet and there were multiple matches(minus the middle name), however, without knowing where he was from originally or what kind of work he might be involved in it's tough to find anything that would be helpful. make sure you check polish search engines.

i've had to do this kind of thing before (but not in poland), you really need to offer up more info if you want people to help out.

Life / "I can spot a Pole a mile away" - Polish fashion? [146]

I've noticed that the Mullet has become fashion again. Seems to be popular in PL...a sloppy one with short hair on top. I hear this came from British fashion. True? Why??????

yeah what the heck is going on with the mullet over here? It peaked about a year or two ago (tons of russians had that dumb looking cut) but there are still a few i see with that cut. it's a sad state when that many dudes preen that much over their frocks and still look like they stuck their heads up a lawn mower.

regarding fashion in poland, if the following recommendations offend you then consider yourself guilty:

gentlemen
-belts are an accessory that should be worn with smart trousers or casual trousers, invest in a good one and ensure it matches your shoes.

- the dress shirt- unless one is wearing a tie, the top button should not be buttoned at all.

-casual shirts- when the collars have buttons then it is in fact a sport shirt and a tie should not be worn with it.

-shirts in general, either blouse the thing out a bit or where a belt but tucking it in allllllllll the way looks geeky and makes a gangly frame and physique more so.

-brand names- it's your money and spend it how you want but you must realize that when one is clad in obnoxious brands that a person not only resembles luggage but very tacky and kitsch luggage at that.

Muscle heads, tatoos are meant to be art for the body, if you have no artistic sense then, i emplore you, keep them off your necks- your future will thank you for it. If you're unsure as to whether or not you have any artistic sense then look at your closet, if you've made attempts to stock up on loud brand name plastered clothing and think that anything with a swoosh on it looks good, then you have no artistic sense.

ladies,
-all that glitters is not gold so tone the Fcuk DOWN on the glitter already. that goes for face, hair, clothes and accessories

-hair-blue and burgandy are for buraki and jet black is only cool when everyone else doesn't have the same hair colour too. Natural ladies, natural hair colour is the next "in" thing, speed up the process.

-Tanning- cut it out!!! I am in a look but can't touch position but for your own sakes and the sake of the next guy that will cup your body in various ways and places, lay off the tanning, it will do your body good and you'll find a suppleness return to the leathery byproduct of the tanning bed you call your skin. If you're so infatuated with leather then dress in it (you can afford it if you reduce your tanning sessions by half or more)

If you use tanning cream then use less, ALOT LESS.

-Rolling the jeans up, cool you found a bargain that fits but the length is too long. do you have any idea how cheap it is to go to a pazmanteria and just get the things properly hemmed? The money you've save on buying jeans that are too long will be more than enough to cover the operation.

-Short shirts, you have a nice belly and want to show it off but if you notice that men routinely avoid oggling your "nice" belly then it is probably nice and full, too full.

Polish ladies, you've let the reputation of Polish beauty go to your heads and quite frankly fat looks like crap and no matter how much and many cosmetics you cake on will not hide fatness. You are like any other person, if you eat more than you burn you get fat and fat is unattractive.

Nails-the reason you're out of shape is because your nails are too long and only allow you to perform the simplist of tasks. If you're fat, then the nails got to go and you gotta take up some physical activity. Dance classes qualify.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Well, I am not going to answer that, but let me pose the same question with the subject and the object reversed.

good question Harry, i am constantly amazed at the self-loving patriots from all over that are always able to accuse but never turn an introspective eye towards their own countries.
