UK, Ireland / Do many British carry knives? [60]

In he Uk its illegal to carry a blade over 3.5 inches... the majority of people who carry knives are teenagers....
when I was 22, a friend of mine was stabbed in a fight and bled to death in minutes, cradled in his twin brothers arms...
Youth, bravado and knives are a dangerous combination....

Life / What is the Prison system like in _Poland? [44]

Greg, I'm sorry but you guys often drive like nutters. Last year my brother in laws best mate was killed. My mother in law spent a week in hospital both because of stupid drivers. I'm no stranger to bad driving having been in 5 car crashes and 3 motorcycle accidents (the bike accidents were my fault admittedly). But despite my appalling record in the UK, Poland is much worse period.

Life / What is the Prison system like in _Poland? [44]

YOU MUST ALL HAVE DIFFERENT MOTIVES EVIL OR GOOD

Damn there is no fooling you Sherlock...

SO I THINK OUR CONSUMERISM INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY WHICH ENCOURAGES ALCOHOL IS A LOT TO BLAME

..thus making you a teetotalling socialist, I presume.

IN GENERAL POLISH ARE VERY DISCIPLINED PEOPLE

hahahahahahaha.............I take it you mean the ones in prison

SO I THINK THE PRISON SENTENCE IS TO RE ADAPT THE PERSON INTO THE LIFE OF SOCIETY

absolutely that is the sole purpose of prison, so........

IT MUST BE NICE IN PRISON

BUT OUTSIDER TOURISTS COMING IN BRING THEIR EVIL WAYS IN WITH THEM

Huuugabooga...nasty foreigners...

Food / I can't handle it anymore...I'm cooking curry... [34]

My girlfriend and I have bitten the bullet, gone out and at considerable expense equiped ourselves with the neccesary spices and condiments.
I have so far succesfully completed one chicken and one vegetable curry I have almost made cucumber raitha, however, fresh mint is a ****** to find. I have also completed one red pepper chutney. And have all the ingredients bare three for making a mango chutney. Much as I love polish food especially when cooked by family, I need variety and SPICE...

I can see myself growing my own herbs.....

Anyway, my question to the forum is am I going mad?
Or are other people suffering from the culinary change.

I don't care how many ways you can prepare cabbage, I just want an Iceberg or Romaina lettuce..... ( help...I'm having chest pains...cough...)

Life / Cultural readjustment... returning to Poland from the West. [58]

She has spent the last 7 years living in South London, Chelsea, Clapham etc now we live in the UK equivelant of Aldershot. Thats the first one.

She's gone from being called PoshPolak and swanning around shopping, eating out, parties, and living the life. To a much more restricted selection which aren't on our doorstep.

ThirdlyI fear she doesn't like the winter, who does, but it affects some more than others.
Fourth, family. And in Poland family matters for better and for worse. Marry a Pole, you marry her family. I feel like I'm in a soap opera.

Hmm there are more to come..I'm just pausing...

Life / Cultural readjustment... returning to Poland from the West. [58]

why do u feel it's so difficult to readjust

Well I don't, (I'm an idiot abroad) its my wife who's suffering.

Well I have many different ideas, but I prefer to set the topic off and read others points of view, this while help me order and articulated the problems I perceive bother her. Thanks for the encouragement. (I enjoy the silliness of the forum, but also really appreciate the useful knowledge that I glean from this forum).

Life / Cultural readjustment... returning to Poland from the West. [58]

Now I'm a happy little soul who pootles around where ever the path is winding.
My beloved however seems to be suffering since her return to Polska. Having spent the last 7 to 8 years in the Uk, the majority of her twenties, living in South London she is finding readjusting really hard.

I have prior experience with Third world banana republics, so for me Poland really isn't that idiotic. There are many, many things that seem alien and illogical to me in Poland, however, I take these as exotic oddities.

My other half is not so tolerant, she proudly showed me an article which stated that people returning from the UK after long periods away are seeking counselling to deal with returning to Poland. I'll try and locate this article, it was on onet.pl

Meanwhile I have dug up an interesting just with various peoples experiences documented. opendemocracy.net/people-migrationeurope/article _1300.jsp

Is there anyone else who has similar issues?
As for me I'm trying to Go Native.

Life / "No sex before 18" in Poland? [25]

I remember in Norfolk many many wears ago parking up as we drove through the fenns and my then girl and I made our way into the reeds to do the deed, obviously the ground wasn't for lying down. Anyhow unbeknownest to us we had walked quite a distance from the car and settled on a spot amongst the tall reads, which was approximately two meters from an intercity railtrack. It was not until the screaming inter city train came screeching past did we realise our faux pas....

Needless to say I haven't tried al fresco nookie in years.

Travel / Will my rented car be stolen or broken into when in Poland? [24]

Just beware of agressive young male drivers in old BMWs. Hmmm, sounds like anywhere really. Jut beware of the third lane rule. If you drive from say Warsaw to Gdansk, the majority of the way it is not motorway, A road a best. Anyhow this road with two lanes, develops a third lane which hoovers intermintantly on half of each of the two lanes. The third lane is the most dangerous, avoid it and watch out for cars, bikes and huge ******* trucks, screaming down the middle.
