Real Estate / Poland Property...should I be scared [127]

"most english people go abroad for the money (middle east tax free)"

shelley... whatever gave you that idea...?

Real Estate / Poland Property...should I be scared [127]

with all due respect, shelley, your uncle and some of the people who worked at the same place as you do not qualify as *most English people*... do they...?

following your reasoning, more ex-pats go to the middle east to earn tax free wonga than say, france, spain, america, australia... or even poland... for the food, lifestyle, weather, whatever...

and lets not forget the thousands of wouldbe English teachers that leave every year for nothing more than the experience of seeing the world...

so if we want to generalise and say that *most English people* go abroad for one reason rather than another, then it's probably not because of the money...

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

I think we as a human race have come far from the days of the nazis.

whatever gave you that idea...?

i dont wish to appear critical Adarsh but putting too much faith in the human spirit is a tad naive perhaps...

Life / Music tastes in Poland [23]

I have always heard great music in Poland - the Hip Ho kicks and there's so much experimental stuff to get your groove on

This is an old friend of mine who has been doing his thang on the Polish music scene for more than a decade

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

i hear what youre saying ukp but wonder how fair it is - what could they have done... and did they not htry to do something... warszawa uprising etc...?

sorry - misread

UK, Ireland / Internet providers in the UK. [5]

there are lots to choose from and they all offer a similar type of service... ntl does me fine but as with some others it's not always available in every area...

have a look around when you get here... it's so competitive that one company or another will have a promotional offer at the time...

... then again... if you are renting then its possible the house will have a connection already...

News / What are your 10 fave things about Poland? And 10 least favourite? [130]

Very few Polish women are 'characters' or people with creativity or originality. And lets not get me talking about Polish men, who are even worse...

what are you talking about op...?

the polish women i have met and had the pleasure of dating have been some of the most creative, imaginative and original women from all the countries i have lived in

Life / Music tastes in Poland [23]

Concerning Polish hip-hop, it was never innovative nor experimental

i disagree with this SunRa - I spent a couple of years in the tri city in the mid 90s and there was definitely innovation and creativity on the hip-hop/big beat/acid jazz front...

...and when i go out there now i am hearing hip-hop more than i would on a night out in the uk - i am also seeing innovative and creative jamming sessions every week lead mainly by glennskii - see above link - who also lead a project called groovekojad [sp] five or so year ago..

... one thing i have noticed, however, is that many poles still associate hip-hop with black artists and have trouble acknowledging white artists...

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

Poles come here to work..and i have never met a more hardworking bunch of people...

yeah... aint being funny or nuffink like but the jobs they tend to be taking have traditionally been done by lazy good for nuffink rip-you-off locals... and the poles want less money for doing a better job... duh... no brainer...

why should i employ some dodgy-as-f*k british builder who is going to charge me silly money for sitting on his fat ar*e all day drinking tea... had a bloke... and his little mate... in last year to do some plastering... took them four hours... including a two hour lunch break... and half a bag of plaster and the radge wee c*nt wanted 4OO sovs... guess where i told him to go...

so decided to try my luck with the poles...

three of them came in... worked 14 hour days... no endless tea breaks... painted my house from top to bottom - 3 floors - put in a new bathroom and re-decked the patio... took them a week and they wanted 5 sovs an hour... cant say fairer than that guv innit?

so... the moral of the story is that this is a competitive consumer society... if the local good for nuffink lazy f*ks are bothered by a sudden influx of competition then they can get off their poopers and start working... hard... for their money instead of sponging off the rest of us...

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

indigenous britons get put to the back of he pile.

the last thing i want is to see sponging foreigners take from deserving brits...

... but it annoys the f*k out of me the number of sponging brits there are doing the same...

... this country has a subsociety - british - that inherently sponges off the rest of us... and has done for years...

Life / 18th Birthday Celebrations in Poland Question... [34]

so... lets get to the crunch... there is one very important point that needs to be established before the celebrations commence...

now... we are talking about n 18th brithday party... there will be alcohol flowing....

im a brit... i come from a semi civilised country... and when we celebrate a friend's birthday we - the guests - buy the dirnks - it's your birthday mate... let me get you a drink - it's the done thing... civilised...

now... on the first occassion i celebrated a birthday in poland i was shocked... to say the least... that the birthday boy is expected to get the drinks in... absolutely outragous and really not on...

so... the question to be asked is...

who gets the drinks in!!!

Life / 18th Birthday Celebrations in Poland Question... [34]

Since it's the birthday boy who invites people, he buy's the drinks. In Poland it's like "Hey boy's, tomorrow is my day, come to my party and don't worry about the alcohol! I will take care of that". I guess Poles like to be generous, and this tradition goes way, way back to the middle ages.
Don’t be so shocked, though. It's the same way like with the weddings. I don't think that in England the guests are expected to bring their alcohol with them to the party, are are they?

in th uk it's like "hey mate... it's your birthday... let me buy you a drink... put your money back in your pocket... it's your special day... this one's on me...!!!"

if i am invited to a party then i bring alcohol... of course... polite... manners... and then when i go home if my alcohol hasnt been drunk then i leave it at the party... i dont take it with me...

and when i am out with friends i get a round in... i buy everyone a drink because they are my friends and it's a pleasure for me to buy them a drink... and then the next person gets a round in.. then the next person...

[quote=Matyjasz, Post #35 ]don't worry about the alcohol!quote]

i know from experience the generousity of the poles but the way you write it makes it almost sound like people wont come to the party of they have the worry of buying their own alcohol...

UK, Ireland / Poles in GB: Why did you go - for money or something else? [53]

its called a degree guys and it's true that a degree from a british university is perhaps worth more than from a polish one...

... i am not so confident in saying that our education system is better than yours... i have always been impressed with the depth of study my polish friends have gone through in their degree/master courses...

... and in england, any idiot can get a degree now-a-days... and many of them do...

Life / 18th Birthday Celebrations in Poland Question... [34]

it’s better to be a birthday boy in England and a guest in Poland.
