Life / Swine flu vaccinations taking place in Poland? [52]

Regardless of what people think of getting vaccinations and whether or not they work. I think the more important question is, does Poland have any stockpiles of the H1N1 flu vaccine? If it does not then they may be in for some serious problems when the virus does come into contact with the Polish populace.

Does Poland have H1N1 vaccination stockpiles?

I am under the impression that Poland does not have any stockpiles of the H1N1 vaccination. Do any other members know if this is true? My dad who lives in Poland asked me if it is possible to send him a vaccination because Poland doesn't have any.

Now, I have no idea how I would be able to get my hands on a vaccination and and then mail it to him. I am not even sure of that is legal. At any rate can anyone confirm if this is true?

Cheers

Law / Restaurant/Motel 60 KMS outside of Warsaw - Good or Bad Idea? [5]

After putting more and more thought into it I think that few people would actually stop for a nights rest if they were leaving Warsaw. What about the people that are on longer journeys from say Gdansk to Krakow and vice versa?

Law / Restaurant/Motel 60 KMS outside of Warsaw - Good or Bad Idea? [5]

Well I was thinking of anyone who is leaving the city and wants to stop for a good meal and cheap place to sleep. As well as any people coming into the city needing to take a break from driving. I don't mean cheap as in hostel cheap but let's say 90-120 zlotys a night with meals ranging from 12 to 25 zlotys. In addition I would think that a TIR stop would be beneficial because many drivers must stop after a certain amount time due to EU regulations.

Cheers and thanks for any input

Law / Restaurant/Motel 60 KMS outside of Warsaw - Good or Bad Idea? [5]

What do you think of the idea of opening a Restaurant/Motel 60 kilometers outside of Warsaw? With the possibility of adding a TIR stop in the future.

Let's say on the 79 going south
Or the 61 going north

Good idea or a bad idea? and why?

Genealogy / Palatial Estate 1800s Warsaw [3]

Not sure if this will help. But you should look into contacting the Potocki Family. They were part of Polish nobility before Communist times. They may have records of the family you seek. How to get in touch with the Potocki's? I don't know. If you dig deep and look hard enough you may find something.

Travel / How do I open a bank account in Poland with only a visitors visa? [11]

Although I am not in Poland now. I did open an account at Citibank Handlowy. People there spoke English and it wasn't a problem at all. I can also access internet baking all in English. All I needed was a passport and an address.

Travel / Poland Autostrada / Motorway Map [10]

Thanks again £ukasz,

I would have thought that drivers would choose the faster expressways S7 or S8. When I looked at the map of the S7 expressway on Wikipedia I thought that it would have been faster than taking the 61 and then the 57. I then did find that the 61 and 57 roadways are all being upgraded in GDDKIA website. Maybe your right. Next time I go and visit Poland I'll be sure to check out the routes you mention.

Cheers.

Any comments about A2 motorway by Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A. What do you think is the future of this investment.......if i made an divestment at all........how do you think this will work......do you think this will help the polish?

The more motorways in Poland, the brighter her future. Poland needs good local and national roads Asap - without it the progress is hindered. So yes - I think it's a good investment; the demand is there. Invest your money in India first - one Indian autostrada free from bullock carts would be a minor miracle and the usual customs posts at each end will soon rake in the rupees.

Travel / Poland Autostrada / Motorway Map [10]

Thanks £ukasz,

One last question. Do you think after 2014/15 when the S7 and S8 are completed people will naturally stop driving on the 61 and the 57 to get up to Mazury?

Cheers

Travel / Poland Autostrada / Motorway Map [10]

What about the highways that are being built outside of the Warsaw area. For example what would be the best way to go from Warsaw to Mazury (Mrągowo). Would the S8 be the best route? Or would I have to take other smaller roadways. I checked this out on Google Earth and it tells me to take the 61 up to the 53 and then on to the 59. Passing through Ostoleka along the way.

Do you think when the S8 is completed that it would shorten the trip time? O what about the S7 when it is done it looks like it will take you very close to Olsztyn.

USA, Canada / What's the longest a Canadian citizen can stay in Poland without a Visa? [4]

Hey all,

As a Canadian citizen what is the longest I can stay in Poland without a Visa. I read somewhere that it was 90 days. If I leave the country and then come back in again do I get another 90 days. If so how long do you think I could do that for?

Cheers

Travel / Poland Autostrada / Motorway Map [10]

Hey all,

I would like to know if anyone has a link for a site that shows the planned routes of Poland's highways. I do realize that much of it is being built right now and construction will continue on into the foreseeable future. I have checked on Google Earth, and Zumi.pl. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a map that shows the proposed routes of these new roadways. Does anyone here have any idea where I can find out this info. The more detailed the better.

Thnx

News / BRAIN DRAIN ON POLAND [101]

The "Brain Drain" in Poland is having some very serious socioeconomic effects. For example a business partner of mine has recently opened a restaurant and has quite a large staff. The staff are notorious for doing little to no work. I even witneseed first hand two chefs pouring soup into two bowls. One chef to hold the bowls and the other chef to pour the soup. I complained about this to my business partner, I actually got quite furious. I thought that if there are too many staff members in the restaurant, then sned some home. Unfortunatley it is very difficult to find cooks and chefs (good ones) in Warsaw right now. My partner remarked that if he wanted a good Polish chef he would have to fly to London and look there for one. As a result he must keep all staff and pay all staff even when the restaurant isn't that busy.

We once advertised for a position in the restaurant for a sous chef and the majority of the people that applied had little to no experience. People really are leaving and it is the best and the brightest that the country has to offer. Whether they will come back or not is an unknown.

Law / Obtaining a License to sell Liquor in a restaurant in Poland [9]

Just an update we confirmed that there are other restaurants in the area with liquor licenses. The restaurant is in a great area and should be given a license. I really don't know what to do anymore. Anymore advice would be great.

Law / Opening Kebab shop or Malaysian restaurant in Poland? [71]

Polish people go to the restaurant rarely

I agree a business partner of mine opened a restaurant recently and is having trouble putting buts in seats. I honestly believe that some poles would rather eat Polish food to something like Thai or Japanese. Maybe Poles think this because if it's not Pollish or a Kebab then it's probably expensive.

Life / Return period for goods in shops in Poland? [14]

Sometimes the shops will give a refund but you will not get cash. Instead they will give a coupon that can be used in the store whenever you like.

Life / immaturity within the polish male youths [10]

When I grew up in Canada there were a lot of Polish immigrants coming to my hometown of Toronto. A lot of the kids that I went to school with were Polish as a result of this. During High School and into University a lot of guys wanted to go out with a Polish girls because they were considered to be very attractive physically.

Although many of the girls I knew were always in relationships with Polish guys. I always wondered why they chose to be in these types of relationships because I never thought that Polish men were very attractive. I don't like to make blanket statements like that but I have been to Poland quite a few times and never saw a guy that turned my head.

It may be because these girls have found a better looking mate, more financially responsible, in a higher income bracket, more stable, or more fun to be around than a Polish man.

Don't know if that answers anything but I hope it helps.

Travel / Warsaw bar scene [12]

If you can get in go to Cinnamon. (Pretty snobby)
Another must visit is a place called Klubo Kawiarnia. (Good crowd that like to party)
Depending on your age you may also want to visit Enclava (a little older crowd)

Good luck and have fun
