Feedback / The "Poland Polls" feature has been released [18]

To admin: you seem to take polls seriously but then post your own if you need relevant results. Editing MY poll questions is like editing user commentary.

You replaced one question with "Yes, but being mean doesn't depend on nationality."
lol - It's your ADMIN input, not mine. I'm not interested in answers to your questions. Put your own polls for it.

News / What do Poles think of current President of Poland? [23]

President Kaczynski ? - total ass. He should resign as he obviously is a one party President. As to what public think about him, opinion polls are here quite fair. Probably no President had such low popularity in polls ever. Funny that his low popularity is largely due to PR mistakes by his stuff. His power games are pathetic. I'm just glad it's PM who has real power in Poland not President office.

Life / When to greet strangers in Poland or not.. [30]

Dzien Dobry is rather personal greeting so we use it toward individuals or small groups we know something about and are in similar situation (waiting for doctor, on holiday, etc). Total strangers we know nothing about are ignored.

Hey dude "national pride contest" is also your input into this thread. Reading about Kulturkampf may help you find out why for Poles it's been Poznan - that is all.

I think you're gay.

History / Poland Around 1883 [30]

Yes. Remember that it was not Warszawa but Warschau 1939-45. You isthatu do paste some more Lord Nelson stories so we can remember when Britain was significant last time.

No fine, no slapping hands nor missing your flight but they are likely to put your name into computer data base.

Departures from Warszawa Centralna to Lublin

It takes about 2.5 hr to Lublin, 34 PLN 2nd class
Regular bus from airport to Warszawa Centralna (number 171(?) about 2-3 PLN, taxi about 25 PLN
From Lublin to Chelm you could also take a bus. They run like once an hour in peak time.

Travel / My first journey to Poland, travel questions. [10]

get a taxi from Warsaw Airport to the South East area - towards Chelm. Can anybody advise please how much that will cost?

I don't know but Chelm is 200 km from Warsaw. If you travel by train to Lublin you'd be only 60 km away from Chelm (several trains daily leave toward Lublin). That is if you care about money... I'm assuming you do since you ask for price.

Have a good trip.

Travel / The cost of a travel guide in Poland? [4]

Waitress makes much more then cleaner. It'd be hard to find English speaking cleaner in fact. If you are not interested in professional tour guides....I'd say expect to pay 100 PLN a day - you should be able to find someone for that price or contact someone who'd like to do it for free. Maybe through couchsurfing.com if you don't expect "professional" conduct.

History / What was poland like in the late 60's [10]

(I've been looking for some Polish bossa nova for some time

You may like Nasza Basia Kochana
One of their song "A dream found in forest", 1975 is here: wrzuta.pl/audio/4XJTGoVmub/nasza_basia_kochana_-_sen_znaleziony_w_lesie

Taduesz Nalepa (and Breakout) in blues and SBB (Jozef Skrzek) in progressive rock are both legendary in polish 70ties music.
Novi Singers like vocalist is Ewa Bem, her bossa nova record: chazzforjazz.com/servlet/the-761/Bemowe-Frazy-Ewa-Bem/Detail

History / What was poland like in the late 60's [10]

I don't know about the Soviets but the Czechs and Slovaks had enjoyed joining polish "alternative" groups specially on summer open air festivals. Even Jazz was forbidden in Czechoslovakia. Throughout seventies and eighties Poland subcultures were controlled by secret police but tolerated. They had not formulated political program and communist hardly could argue their anti Vietnam war stance. They were also seen as alternative to independent catholic church.

They didn't take "free sex" from West and took amphetamine "tri" a lot, later heroine was in fashion "kompot". Allan Ginsberg poem was theirs though, they were supposedly read it once a day. Their most loved music group was Osjan. Nowadays Przystanek Woodstock gathers hippies offspring, which is their summer music festival.
