I had to change shoes at school, too and we had to carry it in an extra bag daily; couldn't just leave them at school for some unknown reasons. They had to be "healthy" ones for kids and kept school floors clean on positive note. Nowadays kids don't have to change shoes, at least not in all public schools.

As for taking your shoes off when at home there's one argument that is convincing to me: you're bound to bring some dog **** home no matter where you live, from time to time that is.

Formal dress is a headache. I go every second morning to get milk to local store, just few yards/meters away and now keep checking my hair, put long pants on etc - all after getting that look from all dressed up already on street and in the store itself and from the NEIGHBORS. If you take Express train from Szczecin to Krakow your journey would take some 9 hrs and you are likely to change trains in Warszawa. I've done it several times and had enjoyed it. It seems long but you can have a meal on board and changeover in Warszawa makes your trip in fact less monotonous. There are some direct trains from Szczecin to Krakow as well though. First class is really comfy and there's a bar on board to spend some time. Price is right too, 115 or 156 pln regular ticket.

Focus is on critical mass, workers rights, gay rights, Iraq and animals rights and more locally on US missile shield and Belarus human rights plus defending some always endangered squats. Radicals in Poland are divided and the groups luck often cooperation, feminist are not necessary against Bush war and bike activists don't care about anarchists problems with police. Not that many residents of Szczecin pay that much for rent. Most housing is either owned by residents, housing cooperative or city - all pay much less then what you can find in rental market. Besides there are 10 000 residents in Szczecin that don't pay rent for years. Eviction is only possible after at least 2 court hearings and City has to provide the evicted with other housing (projects) which are built at rather slow rate (some hundreds a year).

I wouldn't bother with any passes. They would only limit you to choosing some adequate trains and it could be not continent. Your longest trip Krakow Gdansk would cost you some 100 -110 pln by express or IC train (which I'd recommend on this route). Gdansk to Malbork only 12 pln (don't bother with EC to get there as it would be a short trip). Gdansk - Torun 40 pln Regular or if you take IC or Express more but time saving time won't be much. Torun - Warszawa another 40 pln REGULAR. And Warszawa Krakow some less then 100 on EC.

Overall you'd spend about 300 pln (some 130 USD) so buying any pass as I said would only limit you in terms of choices and give not much in savings.

To save big, travel on weekend on Regular trains - Friday 18 pm to Monday 6 am on TURYSTYCZNY bilet (covers all Regular trains in this time frame for only 60 pln)

You British often have this plastic, fake smile on your pale faces, your language is MONEY no matter how hard you'd try to pretend it is not. Practically every conversation in your language resembles making some contract or a deal and you'd glorify individulity but your men and women luck real character. You are rather modern males and females and seldom one can find among you men and women. You all look like you either own a shop or want one to own. You would consider your values universal without a clue that you are a product of your own culture. Others are not English enough for you and they in your opinion should be, even outside of your land. Generally in personal contacts you'd not recognize your left hand from right. You are appealing to young people who left willing to work hard for the right price for some time. If they are back they are rather to look for different jobs then they had. Not many now working in construction in UK or elsewhere will get jobs in huge projects awaiting here in Poland, relocating within Poland is still not attractive for many. Well, it's not garbanzo. Groch taste very different. True that groch takes forever to cook. That's why most would use shelled (?) groch, it has no outside skin and peas are ...split in halfs. That way it would cook as long as beans do.

Still to make gorchowka you'd have to put some whatever smoked into it and it is not grochowka without majeran. Beans in grochowka are like garnish.

Above rules would be at least for Wielkopolska region, it may sure very on region.

My taste for grochowka has to be often substituted as for this groch needs to be soaked day before. It tastes best in cold days anyway.

Now I'm confused myself. I think I'm using what is called shelled peas, in polish "groch żółty łuskany". Groch is round balls, navy beans are longish. Groch has to absolutely be in GROCHowka. I'm adding navy beans, too to grochowka just not that many, it's made on groch.
