Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

if Poles are so "unwanted", get the British employers to stop advertising they want Polish people to work for them, even on this forum... you can rant as much as you like, but you can't do anything about it. tough sh*t!

UK, Ireland / Do all Polish newcomers to the UK speak some English? [14]

I learnt English since i was 6 (private lessons), but when i went to primary school, and then high school, a lot of people in my year either learnt German, French or Russian instead of English or couldnt be bothered to get on with English and they PAID to the brainier students to do their homework... People in my class in high school had difficulties saying what their name was and how old they were after THREE years of English class! The teacher was very laid back and forgiving so they somehow got away with it, but the level was so low i was always bored... I didnt learn anything new in about 6 years untill i came to England and had to learn to SPEAK English all over again because my teachers didnt bother getting us to actually have normal every day conversations. I wish Magdalena was my teacher! Lol. Anyhow, i know a lot of Polish people who came to Britain with very little or no English, and surprisingly this was the 'young' generation. Even though they picked up quite a lot of the language since they came here, they dont speak it very much becaue they live with their Polish friends and families so they dont need to, which i find very arrogant at times. I work with a guy who used to be an English teacher in Poland, and his spoken English is dreadful! I mean, i have to help him out cos' he gets stuck so much, its embarassing... He loves to get back at me for his lack of conversational English by making an idiot out of me in Polish when i don't remember an 'obvious' fact from history or geography, but hey, whatever makes him feel better! :P

Love / friendhship with polish girl [63]

the worst person a Pole can meet abroad is another Pole!

that is so true! Polak Polakowi wilkiem. i had a terrible experience living with a bunch of Polish people for the first 9 months since i came to England, and i heard many stories from other Polish people i met over here.

Sadguy im really sorry to hear how your lady friend is treating you. I think you should get her to sit with you and have a chat, tell her how uncomfortable the situation has become and that you miss being friends like you used to be. Maybe because her life has changed so much and now she can afford to go out (and meet new men), she forgot to appreciate you. I know what i was like as soon as i got settled here, i was a proper party animal and i didnt care what anybody else thought about it... Dont wait untill she comes to you, go to her. Thats what i think...

It breaks my heart to see somebody like you having to earn your living in foreign lands (however amicable they may be), instead of enjoying life in your own country. I really hope you will go back eventually!

aww cheers, i would like to go back and finish uni, but im engaged to a Scottish guy and i dont wanna leave him, hes not too keen on moving to Poland either... i dont mind being here, and i can always visit Mom and Dad every few months ;)

You're relatively new to this forum, and perhaps to this crazy world outside Poland, child. I hope the experience won't make you bitter.

All the best.

i am quite fresh on the forum yes, but i lived in UK for 3 years now. dont worry, im not gonna go in a huff and leave cos of mr. coop, it would take more than that to get rid of me. i wish him good luck with his 'research' and his fiancee. i must say though, i havent came across people who were racist towards me since i arrived in England. Not once, but i am aware a lot of Brits and Americans do have a problem with us. Anyhow, thanks for caring! Just please dont call me a child... ;P

The young Poles are very materialistic...name brands mean everything...if you don't have PUMA or NIKE plastered across your shirt you are not cool

you named yourself after the Co-op by any chance? that is SO cool.

Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

my close friend in Malbork works in Biedronka. she's full time, but NOT ALLOWED at least half an hour lunchbreak, think she only gets a 10 minute break in the morning so she reduced herself to snacking on candy bars as she works... going to the toilet is a big problem too, because as you know Biedronka is a very popular store and always busy, and the clients tend not to be forgiving if they have to wait 5 seconds, not mentioning 3 minutes... she says it's hell and she already gave them notice so she will be outta there soon... i like to shop in biedronka though. They made a documentary about Biedronka treating its employees that way a few years back... and of course when you go to Biedronka everybody will be smiling at you and saying dzien dobry. thats their job. they get checked if they smile, say hi or ask if youre interested in the latest offers. if they dont do that they get sacked. so yeah, that is what i heard about Biedronka, dont be mean to me now;).

Love / My girlfriend thinks she's pregnant! Pomocy!! [75]

pregnancy tests are about as accurate in telling you whether you are pregnant or not as the Pill preventing you from getting pregnant... If your gf thinks she might be having a baby, she should get one of those tests from your local pharmacy and use it first thing in the morning (the result is the most accurate for women in early stages of pregnancy if they do the test first thing in the morning) and then again few days later. all instructions will be on the label. been there done it, but turned out i was just being paranoid... if you DONT want the baby, waiting for her belly to grow is the stupidest thing you can possibly do, then it will definitely be too late to do anything about it.

UK, Ireland / Sending a parcel to Poland from UK [30]

you just go to your post office, they weigh it for you and you fill in the customs sheet and tell them approx. how much its worth. its easy peasy. you shouldt have any problems or any dodgy stories happening.

UK, Ireland / Do polish people honestly think its a better life in the uk? [17]

i find it much easier here. i have a full time job, live just round the corner renting a room (but have use of all the house etc.), after i pay rent i have plenty to go around with. ive been here nearly 3 years and to me coming back to poland permanently would be like a step backwards, id miss the money. i cut down on going out a LOT as that is quite expensive here, but i do treat myself for other things. i know living in uk is expensive but salaries are good enough to pay for it and have a decent, comfortable lifestyle. the minimum wage for over 22s is now someting like £5.50. i know some people struggle here but that is mainly because their english is poor or they are not working 'legally' without national insurance. im not saying that finding a job is easy, not now with all eastern-europeans coming over everyday and employers becoming more and more picky. people who are queuein up for national insurance number interviews are being made to wait for months and not all employers are happy to take you on with just a temporary one. if your english is bad but you still think you will have a better life in britain - forget about it. i think that its much better to stay in your own country and try improve it because its easier as you at least understand the language and have family or friends. risking everything just for a dream about a new life hundreds of miles away from your home land is just too much of a gamble.
