Travel / My opinion on Gdansk and Poland after 11 days [45]

I would say that was an exaggeration.

You'd be wrong there because its an opinion.

It was twenty three years ago, przeczytaj dobrze!

Yeah...just as soon as you realize what you are saying numb-nuts. 23 years ago teraz rozumiesz?

Travel / My opinion on Gdansk and Poland after 11 days [45]

I know Poland very well indeed and I have seen almost everything

23 years ago. Just sit and think for a little bit. You can't possibly believe that they still are in the communist era. You have to be brain dead to say that joining the EU and 23 years to rebuild have been wasted. Try making a visit soon, and you'll see what it's like. Judging Poland for what it was 23 years ago is just blatent ignorance.

News / Puzzler, what are your TRUE thoughts on Poland and it's place in the EU? [29]

Poles living in the US are starting to move back to Poland. Recent statistics I read in the local paper showed that Erie's Polish residents have closed their meat shops and moved out. They've started a trend from what I hear.

That's already happening in the UK???

Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British

I like the Brits, I think they're cheerful. :]

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------
Just a quick question, is Brian Jacques a famous author, by any means, in the UK?
I'm just wondering because I used to read his books all the time, and now my little cousin is planning on reading them all, so I figured I'd buy him the series. It's hard to find all of his books here in the States. I'm gonna have to go to like 8 different stores to get them all, but I've pre-ordered the new one.

Brian Jacques

Anyone even heard of him???

Life / Polish movie/directors [23]

"With Fire and Sword" a very good one, and my favorite movie of all time would have to be "Potop" Nothing tops it in my mind.

Ok, someone finally answers. Is it pretty easy to get his books in the UK? I'm having a bit of trouble getting them all here in the US. I'm thinking it might be easier just to order them all.

I dont like the way they sit there talking in their own language

Why does that bother you? What if someone told you to stop speaking English when you are in a different country?

why do you choose to come to England to live and work?

There's a big history between England and Poland. You should read up on it.

And in actual fact the Polish hoolies are said to be the most violent and feared in europe

Not really. If you gather all the info on the hoolies of Europe, i'm gonna have to say the italians are. They throw the flares and what not.

I am just a rare example of an Englishman learning a foreign language

It's appreciated...

Life / Inspirational Polish poems/writings [22]

Look, I'm doing a final project for my english course, and it has to show who I am, so I figured I would focus on me being Polish.

Who better to ask than the Polish?

If any of you have a good poem or writing from or about Poland, please write it here along with the author's name and title. If it is from a book the title of the book along with the title the reading is a must. Thanks in advance to any who answer.

I really need this you guys, so any submissions are welcomed. They can be medieval writings, post-renaissance, and can range in topics from love to war, etc.

Just as long as it's Polish it works.

just amateur writers, or they just describe what influenced Polish writings. Trust me I've searched for the decent part of 2 hours.

Even Polish folklore isn't googling well.

Plus I figured that responses from you guys would be much better than anything google would give me, considering many of you were taught Polish literature and poetry. :]

Life / Inspirational Polish poems/writings [22]

You don't have to do it tonight. Just as long as I have 25 different texts/poems by next wednesday. I already have 10, and I am adding a few pictures here and there and even throwing in a whole book, so I should be fine.

Thank you for looking. :]

And you want those in Polish, right?

In English, this is for an English class. I could probably get away with them being in Polish, but I have to analyze and evaluate the text, and the teacher would like to be able to udnerstand what I analyzed. If it's in Polish that is fine, I can translate most of it myself and just ask a few people for help for the rest.

I have a book of short Polish poems, if you would like to see a few?

Perfect. Just give the book title, story title, and the author of the story.

Ancient Text
"For The Benefit of Others"
From: The Perfection Of Wisdom

I forgot to mention that the time period from when it was written is necessary too. If it doesn't state when just leave that blank and I'll guess.

Zbigniew Herbert poems:

Thanks :]

News / BRAIN DRAIN ON POLAND [101]

Now I bid you all good night.

As I'm in charge of 10 Polish workers, tomorrow I shall randomly (don't want to appear to be prejudice) pick one of them out and make their day as miserable as possible.

PolskaDoll, hope you sleep tight, it's all because of YOU!

And now I must bid you good-day, for when the day comes that you are to be judged before the all seeing eyes, I hope you remember one thing, as your skin is torn from your flesh and devoured over and over again for an eternity, that it's all because of you.

You like to talk a big game, saying that the Polish are stupid, and a plague upon England, but in truth, you're just a little ticked that they have more English friends than you. It's a bit sad when your own countrymen welcome foreigners before you. Think about it for a little bit, let it sink in, and then maybe, just maybe, you might not be considered legally retarded for a few shining moments in your life. Or, you can take the other course, keep on being biggot and a racist, and one day you'll learn the hard way that you were wrong.

Your choice. :]

Paris, January 1861

Is it about France? Or is that the author's name???

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think that'll be enough for now. If I need anything else I'll be sure to let you all know. Thanks for the quick response. :]

Much appreciated

Gotcha, my bad.

Thanks again everyone. :]

Okay, now I need world literature.

Religious, inspirational, artistic, etc. Doesn't matter what the literature is about or where it is from.

Throw me any literature or books you like that go from medieval times onward. I've finished all of my ancient texts so I'm moving on.

Myths, folklore, poems, short stories, etc. Anything goes. If you like it post it so I can use it on my final project.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Why are people still arguing about whether Poland or Russia is the better country? Makes no sense to me.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

We do the same with Russians and Germans ;)

I'm Polish too bud, I've been part of this forum for almost a year (under a different name before) and people have been arguing over the same facts for months on end. I see no point in it. Topics like this keep the forum from moving on...

Important topic is who has better vodka,Poland or Russia.

That's totally an opinion. Some people think Russian vodka is, others think us Poles make better vodka.

not really, I keep a low profile these days

Same here sadly. I've been kind of busy with final projects and exams to end this semester. I don't think I can take any more English literature. I've about had enough.

Are you being a good boy?

You know it. :]

I got a new dog too. Name him Diesel, like the gas, and he's a brown-tiger striped Mastiff. Funniest dog in the world.

I thought they were not allowed to be bread anymore, unless you have a mix

Like anyone is going to do anything about it. He's the cutest damn puppy in the world. He wouldn't hurt anyone. I mean he runs away from flies.

you will be very educated:)

And boring. Like being able to quote every one of Shakespeare's plays will get me anywhere. :P

News / Poland's Growth Fastest in 10 Years [95]

Polish 303 squadron had more kills in WW2 than any other RAF squadron in the entire war. There are dozens of cemetary's throughout England devoted to Polish pilots. You should google it.

But this is about Polish growth, not pilots, so....

Sweet.......we're growin' :]

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Are you going to Uni?

Highschool. I was considering going to Penn State Park Campus, North Carolina, or Jagellion University in Poland when I graduate. I heard Poland could use quite a few architects who can use AutoDesk-AutoCAD.

Any truth to this?

If I ever get a dog I am going to name it Petrol;p

Nice. Maybe you can name him/her BP?

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

I wouldn't know, but if you are serious about it, start oing your research.

Not if you look at the future. Europe will always be a safer bet for future generations. The US has a bunch of little problems that keep it from being a truely great country. The US government keeps trying to please everyone, while countries in Europe understand that the majority rules. Also, Poland just feels cleaner and more fun to me. I really don't see myself living out my life in America.

WHen it comes to Uni rankings US is the best thought;(

And when It comes to literacy rates, Poland is number 6th in the world with a 99% literacy rate, coming in second in Europe. It was on the news not too long ago here in the US.

Germany, France, and England are tied for first with an "imperfect" 100% (a few idiots here and there) Poland is 2nd with 99%, and so on. The US fell to about the 20s when it came to International rankings. It has its faults. But so does Poland. Nobody is perfect, but one cane be more fun than the other. :]
