UK, Ireland / Stop the Polish from entering the UK (yet another thread) [192]

I don't whine - I state my case calmly and sensibly.
Osiol

[I agree, I've read some of your posts with much interest and you make a good case.
I get the feeling though that non poles are only to be tolerated if they agree with the majority on this forum-thats hardly educational.Reading some sensibly stated oppinions which differ to my own helps me examine and sometimes refine my position. There are some on this thread who dont like the english or anyone else and they dont have the same capacity to examine or redifine their oppinions.

Comments like
Screw British,I hope a Pole takes a job away from you
will make the likelyhood of inteligent debate even less. Many people will take offence when they see that written and will respond with much worse. If they would be kind enough to make an intelligent and considered comment instead I would read it with great interest.I 'lose it' sometimes aswell but these people seem to be permanently in that frame of mind.(THAT MUST BE VERY TIRING)

News / Poland threatens to reject EU treaty [72]

[
quote=randompal] that sounds nice, but don't forget that Poland is famous for precisely that: politicians who specialize in doing exactly the opposit of what you
want/need
why is that a good thing? they should get rid of the damn things if anything

Randompal,I like your style, its interesting reading your comments !

Hi crow. I used to work with many Serbs and Macedonians and they were superb to the last man.Harder men are very rare and they can work as hard as anyone. From what I know about the' YUGO's' they are sure to suceed and they will more than deserve their sucess. As for your slav pact idea...

I've said for years that PL would have been better to have an EFTA type agreement with LT,SK,CZ e.t.c and then join the E.U later , when they were in a better position. They dont seem to like their neighbours though and certainly dont want be outperformed by them one day.Great idea but the world's not ready for that yet

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

Hi I'm british and my view of the E.U is that it is a menace for us and it was a mistake to join.It wastes money, creates unnecessary bureaucracy's, interferes with things which are none of their concern,It imposes regulations which are universal and not tailored to the country concerned and it seems to bring the front runners down to the level; of the tail enders and not the other way round.

The original idea of a common market was a good principle. We could trade together but keep our hands on our own wallets.Thats what my parents were voting for.Had they known the truth it would have been rejected.

What do the Polish people think about the E.U and how it will affect 1) themselves and 2) their homeland ??

Most Polish people I know are interested in politics and current affairs so I'm sure you have a view

Osiol is right. The british people see NI as a pain in the arse that we would be well rid of. None of you can agree on anything for long and you keep dragging up things from the past of which you are only to see from one view point. Get on with your lives and sort yourselves out at last. I've not done anything to you and I dont appreciate your hostility to my countrymen on the grounds of our birthplace. We dont want your country and neither do the south probably.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

GOT SOME GOOD REPLIES SO FAR.
I UNDERSTAND ITS GOOD WHILE POLAND IS STILL GETTING ON ITS FEET,BUT WONT IT STOP YOUR FURTHER DEVELOPEMENT WHEN YOU ARE BACK ON THEM. POLAND HAS A LONG HISTORY OF STRUGGLING TO RETAIN ITS SOVEREIGNTY,IT SEEMS A CURIOUS THAT YOU GAVE IT AWAY AT THE EXACT MOMENT YOU GOT IT BACK!

POLISH PEOPLE HAVE A VERY SPECIFIC STYLE IN DEALING WITH CERTAIN MATTERS, IT DOESNT BEAR ANY RESEMBLANCE TO THE E.U STYLE WHICH WILL BE IMPOSED ON YOU.AS WE FOUND OUT,THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN IGNORE THE RULES ARE GERMANY AND FRANCE-THE REST OF US MUST DO AS BRUSSELS SAYS.HOW WILL IT BE WHEN AN E.U DIRECTIVE FORCES YOU TO HAVE LAWS WHICH ARE IN CONTRADICTION TO YOUR TRADITIONAL BELIEFS OR CUSTOMS??E.U LAW OVERRIDES NATIONAL LAWS,I KNOW POLAND HAS MORE THAN ITS FAIR SHARE OF STUPID REGULATIONS BUT, HOW DO YOU VIEW BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO BY SOMEONE IN BRUSSELS WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT YOU OR YOUR REGION??

News / Poland threatens to reject EU treaty [72]

If they had had a common market type arrangement a few years ago with their neighbours ,who also were non e.c,they could have done much to stop the inflation and economic hardship that they suffered.Items from those places were still incredibly cheap a little over 5 years ago.Living in poland became very expensive in a very short time.Wages were the same, the factories all started to close and the food began to cost the same as in the west.I was involved in the fashion trade.A lot of very fine garment factories went to the wall.I suggest that they would have had more time to restructure their busnesses and would still be making clothing now.A lot of industries were affected the same way as textiles. Those people really paid the biggest price for not cooperating with their neighbours. Those industries would now be restructured and Poland would be able to join the E.U as a fair partner, not one that will be totally diminished by the big players.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

many meps quickly realise the earning potential of being their. The anti E.U Neil Kinnock was the perfect example. He saw the opportunity and became part of the E.U self preservation movement very quickly. He represented himself, not his constituents. Then theres this UKIP bloke who,s just been found out. They are not under our gaze and they behave as they wish. Its very difficult to control them over there.

What about all those millions of euros a few years ago that just vanished ? they decided that it wasnt in the public interest to look for the culprits!

Everyone seems to have the same idea about the E.U - nobody gives a damn, just let them do what they want. Is that it????

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

Hi wildrover. I lived there for many years and as much as I liked it I had to accept it as it was,not as I wanted it to be.At first I saw it trhrough rosy coloured glasses and I defended the place vigourously against my colleagues ,I find myself admitting they were right now.

Poland is a very unfair place and a good way to get success there is to abuse ones power,do something illegal, abuse one colleagues, and generally be very dishonest. Those types do very well in Poland and the decent folk get left behind.

Survival doesn't come into it,they do it...Bo trzeba as I was told many times.
I hope you have a nice life in Poland,it still has a lot going for it and maybe it will be better one day. I would say you need to be realistic, but try to stop yourself being pessimistic. When you've been there a few more years I would be interested if your experience will be the same.

If nothing else, you'll be a much wiser person for the experience-and thats never a bad thing.

[
quote=Michal] You have to remember that in Poland it will be your nearest neighbours who will steal from you
excellent observation michal.I assume that you're a brit that lived there aswell. One question,Despite the problems I hope to go back one day when things get better, would you go back or have you had enough?

he also said that america always does the right thing...........when every other possibility has been exhausted. But yes,we are very similar in our culture, evenif we feel the need to rival each other like two brothers do.I think we can learn a lot from them, they stick together more than us,and they can learn from us,they should follow their leaders so blindly. All said though I think they're a thoroughly decent bunch who we should get more involved with

shouldn't follw their leaders so blindly....sorry

[
quote=laura scanlon] disproportionate number of polish people are on the drink drive rehabilitation programme
Drinking and driving is a crime committed by very selfish and irresponsible people who have given very little regard to those the may around them and their property. If there is a higher than normal incidence of this type of behaviour in any population that means........

look at 'polish drivers again', on this site. Many people are very proud of what you will see. Also try' polish drivers' on' you tube '

Life / Why do poles drink & drive? [82]

Your lot may not be the worst but they are very bad.I've probably driven in Pl as much as you, if not more-It was my job

What I witnessed there was a complete and total disregard for everything and everybody. It cost me a fortune in wing mirrors because they wont drive in their own lane

and I came close to death on a few occasions too.But hey.....its not that bad

Wake up and smell the coffee, something needs to be done and it needs doing now

Oh and by the way,ask someone from Sochaczew if its not that bad. Before they got the bypass, which they had to block the road for, they had a terrifying existence.

Well done Sochaczew-I admire you for getting something put right

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

[
quote=Grzegorz_] Do you think that English visiting Poland speak Polish ?
You miss the issue.People visiting a country only learn that language as a curiosity or they have a previous interest in it. People that go to live and work in a country should feel an obligation to learn thaty country's language and integrate with those with whom they work and live, koniec kropka.

If they dont feel this need then they are infact showing disrespect for those around them and should accept the results. If they can't,they should consider relocation to somewhere where they will be a little more successful.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

Coming here with no english is o.k,but only if they make a concerted effort to learn as soon as possible.Their coworkers give them more than their fair share of understanding and patience while they are learning. They should respect their coworkers for this when they are on their feet.

People who cant commununicate are open to abuse. When its just one man ,the others can protect him-its in their interests to do so.When its a couple hundred thousand men it cant end well. The coworkers of those people are taking a serious beating right now.

Many of the workers concerned are blatantly taking advantage of the situation, not making any effort to get out of it and disrespecting their colleagues by allowing themselves to be used by their employers who are actively seeking to lower the standards of pay and conditions available to their coworkers. To the point that they no longer see the job as viable and give up.

Anyone who goes to a foreign country to live or work, makes no effort to integrate, disrepects the locals or allows their presence to work to the deficit of those already there isn't worthy of any good treatment or respect. Many good people are making the effort but they will be overlooked and tarred with the same brush as the others.People who congregate in closed groups(ghettos) are always distrusted and often despised. Its up to the people concerned to be good guests.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

Listen in bloody Cornwall and Wales some locals are burning holiday homes

Primitive morons wouldn't you agree? But I understand their concerns,I'm a Devonian and my mum is Cornish and it always was a struggle in that respect. As I already said, they are experiencing what Britain's youngsters have for many years .Its tough luck and they have to get on with it and stop whingeing.I wish anyone luck who wants to succeed fairly,I hope they get there too.The situation will not change unless they want communism back and soon it will get worse when foreigners can directly buy land and property.I understand that there are restrictions at the moment, but my wife is Polish and ours had to go in her name.

It raises questions about the employer, thats for sure.It certainly doesn't look like they'll be looking for people of other nationalities and that raises a question ,as to why,in itself.

Health and safety rules are such that a certain degree of english is compulsory.

One of my old employers started employing Lithuanians and they were told not to associate with the english drivers. At the start when there weren't many so we took them to the pub with us and clubbed together to get them dinner sometimes too. What he didnt want was for us to know their employment terms and it was good for him if it was them against us-didn't work that way though. If we knew he was ill treating them we could sort it out for them. We since got completely replaced by Lithuanians and those first Lithuanians were replaced by cheaper Lithuanians! There are office staff that speak their language and they dont need to learn English either. They all get a bad deal there and they've only got themselves to blame-they knew what he was doing and when they let him screw us, that meant that they were next.

UK, Ireland / Gullible pretty polish girls with immigrants in Ireland [60]

Well done ray.The idea is to protest against the loss of innocent catholic polish girls to evil foreign black men who prey on them.If it was a white Polish guy that would be the best, then a white guy from the west, then a white from ...................................

How can a group of people who constantly shout tollerance be so contradictory to what they themselves want? Seems to me that its tollerance for them that they may want but its a two way street.

Amen Ray,It is a load of boll*cks

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

Do you think that English living and working in Poland speak Polish better than Poles living and working in England speaks English ?

If a firm in Poland wanted people to put coats on hangers and hang them on a rail, but these people must speak fluent Romanian(which they know is very unlikely) you would be rightfully appalled. It is a blatant discrimination against the local people and just fits inside the law on advertising.

Thats happening here now and if you are a reasonable person you will concede this point.

Migrants are entitled to free language tuition in the U.K so there is no excuse not to learn.
I and many other people in Poland had no such luxury. That said we all learned your language in order to live effectively and we put much more effort into doing it too.At the time I had great difficulty in finding a polish book/cassette to learn with.It was and still is a minor language.English is one of the two main world languages.Books are and always were readily available almost anywhere. Not many Brits will live all year round in Poland, but most of them will learn Polish and many will have a connection or special interest there.

As for which language is spoken at work.. Thats the firms choice but i would say that people must be able to use english when its neccessary-safety,efficiency,e.t.c

UK, Ireland / UK firms face recruitment ban for exploiting migrant workers [15]

The firms concerned are not going to pay any price. This is just a ploy to gain support from the public but will not be acted on. I would love to see these firms crippled by fines but it was by governmental design that all these cheap workers were invited in.They have no intention of undoing their own work.

UK, Ireland / UK firms face recruitment ban for exploiting migrant workers [15]

Jareck,EDUCATE THE WORKERS AND RECRUITMENT AGENCIES??

They already know what the score is,what the effects will be and whether its right or wrong.
Guess what.. They dont give a flying fffffffffffffffffffffffffffK and no amount of education will alter it.There need to be rules which prevent the discrimination (positive and negative),there need to be severe penalties which are actually applied and the people being abused need to find some character and stop it from their side.None of those things are likely to happen, especially the last one.

These people are employed on a low cost basis not a quality one. They are neccessary to fill places and lower the labour cost to the firms they work for.If they had the same conditions many would be ejected immediately.Agencies like the fact that these people wont answer back, when they do they'll get someone else who wont.

The government is merely trying to diffuse the situation without actually changing the cause-because it suits them as it is.It helps keep inflation down and disguise some of the holes in the economic plan they follow. Who is going to pay the bill for all the unemployment benefit and low income support benefit if there is an abnormally large presence of migrant-and maybe non resident-workers on the minimum wage in the job market?Locals will soon be in the position that they will need these benefits because the pay does not meet their living costs.I think its great to help people, but not when your own kids suffer as a result. We are not a charity and we only have limited resources in our small country. We are not the biggest world power any more and its time to be sensible, and fair to the people we already have first.

The papers will be different in a few years. They will echo the comments that we should have listened to Enoch Powell who warned of these problems many years before many of the forum users were born. Why make the same mistake so soon?Letys get it right this time at least.

Dont believe everything you se on the telly. There are idiots everywhere and they are usually a minority who nobody knows anything about.I lived there for years and the only thing i saw like that was when Lodz played Legia. That was entertaining and it was a closed fight between consenting hooligans.

Some Polish guys do tend to feel the need to make fun or belittle people other groups, but never in that groups own language strangely enough. That doesnt mean that is the norm but those that do it aren't usually very good at disguising the subject of their conversations. That said most conversations are perfectly innocent and you neednt be alarmed.I always try

You dont know are government very well do you!
I am aware that there is a lack of respect in the world but the government wont change that now.Divide and rule is an old tactic. If the population fight between themselves they leave the leaders to do as they please unquestioned. That said a lot of those coming here dont like us,dont want to like us and are dreaming of the day they can leave.

A colleague of my wife has just had a baby. They will not stay here beyond his third birthday,he must not go to an English school and he must not get so comfortable here that he will not want to go to Poland.SAD and SELFISHand certainly not respectful.

UK, Ireland / UK firms face recruitment ban for exploiting migrant workers [15]

Clearer rules need to be made with less loopholes.Penalties for breaking them should be very severe,to pay for the organisation needed to monitor them.A watch should be made on the level of pay,pay increases and the ethnic origin of workers. When an abnormal change occurs they should be dealt with.I.E a firm now has 60% Brits,20%poles,10% Indian, others may change to 40% Brits 40% Poles ...... At this point the pay and conditions offered to the workers should be examined. If it can establish a policy to replace a certain sector with another without good reason then they should get sorted out.If pay rises suddenly stop and the % of immigrants rises at the same time they shouls also be watched. It should be made easier for the workers to report their employers. This will work in favour of the locals and the immigrants, allow well run companies to outperform the shoestring organisations(which are the most likely to break other regulations too)-The work of those crap firms will get eaten up by the better ones,a few crooks in jail, more workers in better conditions, more pay

Its a rough idea and I admit I havent thought about it too much-am in a rush today-but I think the best path is in that area.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

This area has a lot of free courses to match the high number of migrants. They are all free
and our run by the local colleges.I have arranged for several Polish people to attend them and they were very happy with the course.Good employers can have the tutors come to the workplace when they have large numbers and a suitable training room. The firm I contract to did that-again free. You can even do a free IT course in MK which is done on a casual drop in basis. If you look for whats on offer you'll see that GB is bending over backwards to help people increase their skills.

I knew many people.Brits, italians, spaniards, yanks, belgians e.t.c they were mainly in business or teaching and they all spoke polish to some extent.True they werent all fluent but they could get on with what they knew and would only get better with time.

Poland is a very difficult place to be if you dont understand a word.If you live in a student town or a tourist area you may have a chance of speaking only english, but try for yourself one day to cope a whole day in say..Krakow on english alone and then imagine everyday like it.Most people dont expect fluent English or even goodenglish. They do expect to see effortand They will do the rest in order to make the conversation work.

It does but that doesnt mean you can take a pay drop to go to it.Your mortgage was arranged at the earnings you had when you started it.If your pay drops or stops rising(effectiverly a drop) you will find yourself struggling. If your firm always paid above the minimum but now doesnt because it has lots of poles you're entitled to be annoyed I think.

They may be earning more because when you're here alone all you can do is work. When you have children and a partner to entertain you are less available.I earned much much more before my family came here to join me.Dont twist the facts unless you've thought about it.and the migrants are not more reliable and hard working, their just easier to take advantage of because of their social and financial circumstances. Not many people could keep up with me and i aint a pole.

They are just abusing the decent nature of this country's inhabitants, that is all, and again, I am saying this as an Eastern European who was born and bred in that part of the world

quote

I wasn't born there but I was there long enough to know you're right. If I say it ,I'm anti Eastern European(Bollocks,my wife, sons and many of my closets friend are E.European)

If you say it doesn't get attacked as much.Thankyou for being straight, you'll surely get caned for it.
