Life / Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations [30]

Hi Vinny, and Happy New Year

Let me guess ;-)

The good lady wife uses MBank and says they are very good. However I am expecting HSBC to launch a branch operation here in the coming months ( I for one can't wait! ) so may be worth hanging on to see. I attended a market research on it recently and it will be aimed at professionals, wheter that will mean they show the same remains to be seen.

All the best, I'll let you know as and when I hear anything

Real Estate / When is the law changing to allow foreigners to buy land in Poland? [32]

I ment mcdonalds, kfc, pizza hut on every corner. And big colorful meaningless posters on historical buldings.
There are also good things as well I know, But such are the costs of glabalisation I guess.
But is it wrong that I want the process to go slower?

It is not wrong at all. I've lived in Poland for five years, it becomes more 'cheap Western' slowly but surely. Might be time to head further east again ;-(

Real Estate / Cost of construction per square metre [15]

We're looking to build some property in Warsaw and wouldn't expect the cost ( to builder's finish ) to cost more than PLN 2,500- 3,000 / sq.m.

UK, Ireland / Parcels from UK to Poland [7]

Hi everyone. I've heard of a relatively cheap service that delivers parcels from the UK to Poland. Anybody know of such a service ?

Tried google but can't see anything like this. Thanks in advance / dzieki ;-)

UK, Ireland / Same banks in Lodz as in UK? [12]

Seems HSBC are about to launch a high street banking operation, certainly a top-end one anyway.

Other than that, BZWBK are 71% owned by Allied Irish Banks, but there aren't really such strong ties.

I have ( or friends have ) opened accounts with BPH, BZWBK and Millennium, they all have internet banking in English.

Real Estate / Advice on what Polish city to invest in.... [101]

yes lets all invest in poland help push up prices so the local will not be able to buy, good idea

Ask Dom Development ( the biggest in Warsaw ) what percentage of apartments are sold to foreigners....

Less than ten percent they say, so don't think there's much in your argument to be honest.

Life / Renewing my English passport in Poland [23]

My friend was at the Consulate yesterday applying himself. They said it will be ready in ten days, but he went for the most expensive option ( about PLN 700 )

He asked if it must be a UK citizen who must validate the photo, a Polish student validated his and it has been accepted.

Hope this helps

UK, Ireland / Manchester - Question - living standard for Polish migrants. [29]

I'm sure you'll love Manchester, much more so than London. My wife is Polish and visited both many times, she definitely prefers Manchester!

I'd really like to help you also, as I went the other way, from Manchester to Warsaw! My Polish friends who have joined me in MCR also love it.

Also, your Pound will go a lot further in MCR than in London, so if the job offer is better, I wouldn't hesitate. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Life / Try it - move to Poland! [33]

I moved from the UK for love five years ago ( although we knew each other for longer ) and have been happily married now for four years, so it can work. My Polish still isn't great, but I've had two decent jobs and now run my own company, so it is possible !

Better to try, love and lose than regret it for ever in my opinion ;-)

Warsaw offers the best long term capital growth.

I was wondering why nobody had mentioned this before. The capital city and economic headquarters, but with still only a meagre five percent of the population ?

Other capitals in the region such as Prague and Budapest have somewhere like 18-22% of the population, and looking closer to 'home' , London and Dublin account for 25% of their people.

Add to that upto a hundred thousand a year migrating TO Warsaw, and it's still the best bet in my opinion.

Life / Foreigner bars in Warsaw [15]

Bradley's between the Holiday Inn and Interconti Hotels is very good, so too are Bar Below and Tortilla Factory.

Try to avoid Patrick's ( an English visitor had a fatal spiking in there, I'm told ).
