UK, Ireland / Leeds: Beware of purse snatch gangs in supermarkets [11]

I see this has occurred in the area of Leeds where i lived for twenty years , before moving to Poland , and yes there are quite a few Polish people , living and working in the area , along with Latvians , Rumanians , and other nationalities...

If these bandits are Polish it will no doubt make life a bit harder for the majority of Polish people in the area who are honest and hard working , hopefully they will be caught , and if found guilty they should be thrown out of the country...

Whatever nationality there are , they are scum...

You lived in Armley? Me too.

Actually , i lived in Pudsey , but Armley , is just down the road from there , a Polish friend of mine that i took to the UK to find work now lives in Armley , and works in Pudsey....

I had a number of Poles living in my house in Pudsey , and all were decent hard working guys.... Of course , you get thieving bandits in all nationalities , but sadly , if these bandits turn out to be Polish , it will reflect badly on all Poles in the area...As Jonni has said , there was a problem with crime in that area long before the Poles arrived , its not one of the better areas of Leeds...

Food / Mushroom Picking Parties (Poland tradition) [74]

I have said this before , but maybe no harm in saying it again...If you are not 100% certain that the mushroom is safe to eat , then DO NOT EAT IT... there are reports that some of the deadly ones actually taste quite nice , people have said so , just before they died...!

You can buy all kinds of books on the subject , but sometimes , even with great photos in a book its very difficult to identify all of them , there are some mushrooms that can be eaten , that look very similar to ones that you definatly should not eat....

If you really want to go picking mushrooms , the safest thing is to go with a local Polish person , even the city folk seem to be pretty clued up on whats ok to eat , and what is not , mind you , even they can make mistakes...

Its not just death you need to worry about , some of the mushrooms on the danger list can make you very ill , and leave you with permenant and severe damage....

Enjoy your Polish mushrooms , they are the best...just be carefull....

Love / Why are Polish girls constantly ill? [166]

[quote=PlasticPole] why you see more colds and flues when the weather is slightly cooler,

My old farm is cold and draughty , not exactly cosy in the winter , but i have never been ill here... I think its the people in the warm cosy houses that tend to suffer more from illness.... ]

Life / ANYONE KNOW THE COST OF A MEDICAL OPERATION IN POLSKA..? [28]

Due to my long and loopy history of doing stupid stuff , such as crashing motorcycles at high speed , it looks as though i am going to require an operation on my arm to move a few nerves about , and grind a bit of bone off..nice...!

Just supposing i have to pay for this operation here in Polska , can anyone give me a bit of a clue as to how much it might cost...?

I need to know if its going to be cheaper to get it done here , fly over to the UK , or get a workshop manual and have a bash at it myself... thanks...

Life / ANYONE KNOW THE COST OF A MEDICAL OPERATION IN POLSKA..? [28]

I thought about that , but there is nothing that requres emergency treatment , no arms hanging off or whatever...i suspect they would simply declare me fit to travel back to the UK for further treatment...

i am pretty sure there is no way round it really...just going to have to pay up...No i am not registered here as a farmer...just as a resident...

Life / ANYONE KNOW THE COST OF A MEDICAL OPERATION IN POLSKA..? [28]

Thats a great website , looks like i can get free treatment if i go back to the UK , but at the moment i am thinking of having it done in Polska... If i went back to the UK i could be several weeks getting the appointments etc , and i don,t want to be away from my farm for too long... With the cost of flitting back and forth , it might well be cheaper to get it it done in Polska...

Travel / Wroclaw to Lubin - the best way to get there? [14]

I see on my map that there is not a rail line direct to Lubin...but there is a rail line from Wroclaw to a town called Scinawa , which is 17 kms from Lubin...maybe there would be a bus from there , or maybe its close enough for your friend to pick you up...I am afraid i have no idea what the cost of a train would be.... There is a station only a few kms north of the airport where you can get a train to Lubin...

Travel / Wroclaw to Lubin - the best way to get there? [14]

Yeah i heard those too....but having travelled on a Polish train to Gdansk i am convinced they are just that...stories...My friends daughter travels alone on this train quite often , she is only 15 , she seems to have survived ok...

I am sure there will be a bus on this route , but probably not too many , probably non at night...no doubt some local Wroclaw resident on the forum will know better than me....
