People purchase used homes, cars, jewelry, etc. I'd be honored to receive a ring that was a family heirloom, as an engagement ring. Some are quite lovely. I also pointed out that pawn shops also have new, unused rings available for purchase. Of course he's not gonna go & give his fiancee a dented, scratched up engagement ring. I'm merely suggesting a way he can get more bang for his buck.

Here's another tip. You may actually be able to buy a really nice engagement ring at a pawn shop. Purchasing the ring there, may only cost you approximately 1/2 the cost of a luxury jewelry item, as opposed to a retail jeweler. Not all the jewelry at pawn shops is used. Lots of their items are infact new. If the ring does happen to be slightly used, just give the ring a good polishing job; it'll sparkle like new!

Haven't had the opportunity to meet with the elderly in Poland so far. I do enjoy chatting with Polish people at the retirement home, located next to the Polish church in Los Angeles.

The residents enjoy telling interesting, yet sometimes sad stories, pertaining to the good old days. In turn, I love hearing them share their cherished memories of days gone by. It's great to preserve the past and learn from those, who are more experienced in life, as opposed to the majority of us.

It's the same here in the United States. I like shopping at Ontario Mills Mall. During the weekdays the mall looks virtually abandoned. I can't comprehend, how the businesses stay afloat and generate any profit. Especially when there's high overhead, including cost of goods, rent, salaries, insurance, advertising, etc.
