Hello everyone,

Have you ever been to a Polish zoo? (I havent been in zoos since a good number of years :D)

What do you think about its conditions? How are our animals you think? Do you think the Zoo animals are being taken proper care?

I remember, when I was a kid I saw one star monkey in one of our Zoos... He didnt use to do much, just sit!... and people used to come take picture etc. He even shaked hands with some. Today while browsing I found a picture which I think looks almost like that monkey!

He became a star and every other animal was probably jealous :D

So give your experiences :)

Your posts on animals and zoos in Poland are welcome ppl :) ...

I heard Warsaw Zoo is in need of new enclosures. Was there once as a kid when visiting Poland. Seamed a little grey and dirty and it smelled bad.

We have a Zoo not very far from where I live. But I haven't been there yet, even though I like animals a lot.

My friend was there. and she said that many of the animals have too small cages. There is also some lack of physical and social stimulation for several animals. I hope it will improve.

True. It's a very pretty zoo, although a little small. I've been to a much better zoo, but that was in San Diego so it doesn't count. We're talking about Poland here.

Even though it's not in Poland, it's really the mother of all zoos out here. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to go to San Diego Zoo on field trips. In the summer months, they're now open in the evenings too.

If you liked the San Diego Zoo, you'll love the Wild Animal Park near Escondido. Operated by the San Diego Zoological Society, the same folks who run the zoo, it's like a trip to the African veldt. Go once and you'll see what I mean.

Is there such a thing as an animal/safari park in Poland rather than a zoo? I always think these make for better surroundings for the animals.

San Diego Zoo

That place is so huge!!! I've been to Brookfield, Milwaukee, Texas, Florida, Denver (which is a newer, modern type zoo), all the midwest zoos and many, many others but San Diego is still the largest. Last December the white tiger from San Francisco Zoo escaped and killed and attacked some japanese guys who were teasing it. And I was in San Francisco at the time and couldn't go because they closed the zoo.

Wild Animal Park near Escondido

Yes, that is awesome. They also have a baloon ride and you can see the whole zoo. I liked the baby giraffe the most. South Dakota has a drive thru Wild Bear park I went to again this year, with bears walking all over the street in front of your car, the way it used to be in Yellowstone Park years ago, untill there were too many bear attacts because people were feeding the bears and the bears would also go through their garbage. Now the bears are being tranquilized and flewn over to territories far from campsites.

When I had a chance to visit the Warsaw Zoo a few years ago, it was closed for renovation. That's too bad they had to close the whole zoo and lose money, they could have parts of exhibits open.

I liked the London Zoo, they had a Minah Bird who would be talking to people and just a nice, pleasant zoo.
I'm a Zoo-a-holic :)

Very sad way to learnt etiquoette... :(

Anyways... so what did they do with this tiger finally?

Did you find the monkey whose picture I posted in any of your American Zoos? He was quite a star ... though he didnt too much but stare (atleast when I saw him).

They shot her. Her name was Tatiana, she was a 4 year old siberian tiger. She jumped over a 20 foot high wall and a 15 foot wide moat. The year before she chewed a part off the zookeeper's arm. So she already had a taste of human blood and was probably pissed she had to sit in a cage with some people laughing at her and teasing her.

Did you find the monkey whose picture I posted

Yes, I've seen this proboscis monkey (nosacz in Polish). He was staring at me too.

Wasnt it the same Tiger that attacked those 3 drunk Asian kids that were throwing rocks and taunting him?

I dont blame the Tiger for going after them

He is called a "Kangeroot"

this would read better if it were kanageroot.

The difference between a kangeroo and a kanageroot.

One is an Australian animal. The other is a Geordie stuck in a lift

OK no more Shih Tsu jokes....after this one...

A man starts his new job at the zoo and is given three tasks.

The first is to clear the exotic fish pool of weeds. He starts on this when suddenly a huge fish leaps out and bites him. He is not going to let a fish have a go so he beats the offending fish to death with a spade.

Realising that his boss is not going to be best pleased, he tries to find a way to hide the dead fish. He hits on the brilliant idea of giving the fish to the lions as lions will eat anything. So he throws the fish into the lion's cage.

He then moves on to his second job, which is to clear out the monkey house. He goes in and a couple of chimps starts throwing coconuts at him. Un-amused he swipes at the chimps with his spade, killing them instantly. He's really worried now, so what does he do? He feeds the chimps to the lions, because lions eat anything. He hurls them into the lion's cage.

Anyway, he moves on to his last job, which is to collect honey from South American bees. He starts on this and quickly gets attacked by the bees.Alarmed, he grabs his spade and smashes the bees as hard as he can, squashing them to death. By this point he is not too worried about the death of bees as he knows what to do by now. He throws them into the lion's cage, because lions eat anything.

Later that day a new lion arrives at the zoo. It wanders up to another lion and says "What's the food like in here?". The other lion says:

"Brilliant, today we had fish, chimps and mushy bees"

Edit - Doesnt the Chimp in the picture look like Barry Chuckle ( one half of the chuckle brothers ) ?

The zoo in Krakow on Bielany is nice. My sister had to collect acorns for the animals for praca społeczna in school. I used to live close to it and rode my bike there a few times, some runs seemed small, specially where the dzik and konik przewalskiego was. But that was a while ago, I'm sure they improved by now.

The zoo is in Lasek Wolski, not Bielany. In Bielany is the monastery where women are allowed to enter 12 times a year.

You're right. It's close by somewhere around there anyways. It was a while since I've been there. Not talking about the monastery. Always saw that huge thing from the road and wondered what goes on inside....:)
