Life / Wanna buy a rubber/condom (in Rossmann in Poznan)? [51]

But most people dislike sexually transmitted diseases, or making the girl pregnant, even more

I'm not saying we should never use them and throw them all to the trash, just that, as you said, very few people like condoms.

Language / Poles! How do you cope with English phonetics versus English spelling? [37]

Just wondering how you all cope. It's possible to learn to write in English but with wildly inaccurate pronunciation, or to speak English well but with very bad spelling, or any combination of those things.

English is a very easy language, but it has one difficulty, its pronunciation ;)
It may take several years to 'master' the language, especially its pronunciation.

As to French, i agree, there's a real difference between the way you write and the way you spell it, but on the whole, i think English is 'worse' ;)

Language / ANGLOS HAVE TROUBLE WITH SZCZ, SOME WITH TRILLED 'R' [22]

Hehe ^^
I'm a bit disappointed, i saw a vid once, with English commentaries, great goal by Kuba against Bayern a few months ago, and they said something like 'what a wonderful goal by Kuba, the man with a name so long they had to write Kuba in the back of his shirt', lol, just tried to find it and post it here, but it seems like the vid has been removed. Pity, that was a really nice goal ;)

Language / ANGLOS HAVE TROUBLE WITH SZCZ, SOME WITH TRILLED 'R' [22]

Polson didn't mean/write "ż", but "ź"

Yup.

Wow! imagine that on the back of a football shirt:)

That's why they shortened Borussia player's name Błaszczykowski into Kuba ;)

Language / SZCZ and ŚĆ HARD TO EXPLAIN [19]

Cz → like in 'China', can be transcribed [czajna]
Ć → like in 'chill', can be transcribed [ćyl]

Now, Sz → like in 'shark', can be transcribed [sza(r)k]
And, Ś → like 'attention', can be transcribed [-śyn]

What do you think? ^^

Language / English words of Polish origin [19]

I use Wikipedia for more or less general research. I'm not saying that we should trust every single article, but from what i've read, i didn't see any abuse or false statements, maybe i didn't notice them, but when it's coherent, there are chances that the said article is a reliable one.

I could not disagree more.

Why? I've heard scientists saying that science articles were generally good and reliable. The site is thinking of a quality rating system though, to show that certain articles are more reliable than others.

I did do it. Did you know that English "pet" came from Polish "ptak?"

Haha, nice one ;)

with so many reliable sources out there, why go to Wikipedia? --just because it always pops up first on a Google or Yahoo search?

I don't go exclusively onto Wikipedia, but i sometimes do cause i know what i can trust and what i cannot ;)

Language / English words of Polish origin [19]

It isn't reliable because absolutely anybody can add whatever they want to the web page

In general, Wikipedia is a reliable site. Most of the articles i've read are well written and trustworthy.

If you go there in just a moment, you will see that I have added the word "pet" with absolutely nothing true to back it up just to demonstrate my point.

Just been on the page and didn't see it. And even if you did it, someone will remove sooner or later.

I'll give it a look.

Great ;)

Love / Polish men vs German men: Who is hotter? [513]

ive hear daily they have awesome awesome Geysirs there.

That's why the word is now commonly used throughout the world ^^
Iceland, land of ice and fire. One bad thing: it's soooo expensive, just like Norway ;)

Im a guy but in a non gay way every german dude I've met wasn't really THAT good looking. Im comfortable with my sexuality and I can comment who can be good looking and who isn't...

It's okay, don't feel bad for giving your opinion ;)

Love / Polish men vs German men: Who is hotter? [513]

Of course. And Icelanders are for most of them of Norwegian and Danish origin. Btw, i'd love to go there too ;) So far and so beautiful.

Love / Polish men vs German men: Who is hotter? [513]

OMG! I feel terrible for europeans general knowledge...

I'm sure there is even worse ;) What is the capital city of Germany? Dublin. ^^

If Finland is in Scandinavia so is Russia with their murmansk

Actually, can't we say that Finland is situated on the Scandinavian peninsula? I think we can. But we have to add that Finnish people don't belong to the Scandinavian people, but, as you previously said, to Finno-Ugric people, like Hungarians and Estonians :)
