Life / Regional traits in Poland [27]

Perhaps it has something to do with demographics. After all Poles were pretty much a minority there, concentrated mainly in the western part. Much of Galicia was populated by Ukrainians so a stereotypical Galician Pole is the one who lived in a lone Polish village surrounded by Ukrainian villages.

yehudi

Technically they used to be, but it was a very tiny piece of Galicia and on the border so they aren't associated with Galicia much.

If everyone talks funny except Galicia then, let me guess, you're from Galicia?

Galicia isn't part of Poland anymore so the dialect doesn't exist. It's like Lukasz said - I was referring to past stereotypes, right now in many parts of Poland there's a mixture of people from other parts of the country and former eastern territories so we don't really have stereotypes about them yet.

I'm from Eastern Poland so I talk funny too^^

History / What if scenario´s for WW2 and Poland [112]

His biography is highly recommendable! :)

I'm reading about him right now. It seems to me that his hatred of Jews might have been influenced by rumours of his Jewish ancestry. A personal vengeance?

It was Heidrichs arrogance to drive in an open merc cabrio every morning at the same time the same route what killed him in the end.

Holy Fvck, what a prick. He deserved what he got.

Maybe, but we need to remember that Czechs were a small nation, it would be very difficult for them to resist. And yet they managed to kill a very important Nazi official (Reinhard Heydrich), quite impressive^^

History / What if scenario´s for WW2 and Poland [112]

An assumption could be that Poles would have been moved to the East or work as servants in the GG (General Gouvernement) district, with young Polish kids sended to germany to be re educated

How optimistic of you.

"Unfortunately, a policy towards Poland, whereby the East was to be Germanized, was demanded by many and was based on the same false reasoning. Here again it was believed that the Polish people could be Germanized by being compelled to use the German language. The result would have been fatal. A people of foreign race would have had to use the German language to express modes of thought that were foreign to the German, thus compromising by its own inferiority the dignity and nobility of our nation. It is revolting to think how much damage is indirectly done to German prestige today through the fact that the German patois of the Jews when they enter the United States enables them to be classed as Germans, because many Americans are quite ignorant of German conditions. Among us, nobody would think of taking these unhygienic immigrants from the East for members of the German race and nation merely because they mostly speak German."

Adolf Hitler's words (on the subject of Germanization of Poles during the time when Poland was partitioned)

Hitler would never accept 're-educating' 30 million Poles not to mention the fact that lots of German rulers tried to do that before and failed. Even if the Nazis were willing to try, it wouldn't have been successful - there were simply too many Poles. A nation of 30 million can't be easily kept in check and certainly won't willingly give up their children.

Nazis also sucked at expulsions. They weren't even able to resettle 100.000 Poles from one area (Zamość) without sending most of them to concentration camps. And if they'd won, then Poles wouldn't have been the only Slavic nation under their control. I highly doubt that Hitler would want 100 million Slavic brats running around Germany. The whole POINT of 'racial hygiene' was to PREVENT foreign blood from polluting precious German blood.

So, sooner or later the Nazis would have been forced to try physically reducing the number of Poles through the means of mass murder but that, too, would have failed. It's simply impossible to exterminate a whole nation of 30 milion without anyone noticing or resisting. Eventually, Hitler would've been forced to tolerate the Poles, but the relations would remain awkward and hostile.

Life / Regional traits in Poland [27]

- Galicia: peasants, poverty, very multi-cultural.
- Silesia: Germans and half-Germans, talk funny.
- Eastern Poland: backwardness, religious zealotry, xenophobia. Also talk funny.
- Western Poland: cleaner and richer than east, more open-minded but very snobish.
- Southern Poland (mountains and highlands): live in a world of their own, don't know much about the rest of the country or the world. Talk very funny.

- Kraków: the REAL capital of Poland. Very snobbish. Talk funny.
- Everybody hates Warsaw.

These are of course stereotypes, I don't mean to insult anyone.

Life / Pasowanie (knighting) [7]

Er, no it's not a Polish tradition to give a spanking at 18. This is just something that became popular in the very recent years just because it's fun. there is no deep meaning behind it at all.

Life / Pasowanie (knighting) [7]

'Pasowanie' means knighting and looks probably the same as in any other country. If you are talking about Easter traditions then you probably meant 'Śmigus-Dyngus' or 'Wet Monday' which is a day when people splash water at each other and paint maidens' windows white.

I will tell you more if you explain which one did you have in mind.

Love / Abuse in relationships (my first Polish girlfriend) [216]

What is this forum really about?

I think it's just a place where immigrants in or from Poland like to hang out, talk about stuff and if there's nothing to talk about they can always start a discussion about Jews. Or Poland.

Genealogy / I Gotta Ask: Who Else Is a Jewish-Polish Person With an Interesting Testimony? [48]

That's a Polonophobic generalization.

Nope. I'm Polish and I don't consider Poles to be antisemitic at all. The myth of 'Polish Antisemitism' was and still is fuelled mainly by Polish Americans, many of whom are stuck in the kind of thinking that was popular in Poland 100 years ago. How else would you explain the fact that nearly all Polish Americans who speak on this forum are either antisemites or proudly proclaim that they've freed themselves from traditional Polish antisemitic thinking? I don't mean that ALL Polish-Americans are antisemites, ofcourse, they just seem to truly believe that this is expected of them.

How is the Term "jew" derogatory?

He's a Polish-American, these guys seem to have a serious problem with everything Jewish. I think it's because there are more Jews than Poles in America and they're more respected that Polish-Americans are, so they feel outnumbered and underappreciated or something.

History / History of the crime ; Bandera, UPA and Podole Polish land. [116]

Germans - no. Germans in Poland were treated just the same if not better than Poles in Germany.
Jews - yes. I'm not happy about this and I think it's often exaggerated, but interwar Poland was a VERY antisemitic state, so they certainly had the right to have a grudge.

I watched the film. It's very sad and it's even more sad that the perpetrators weren't brought to justice. I'm only pointing out that it is NOT surprising that Ukrainians had a grudge against us and this fact is also very sad.

Grunwald
Is this so? Then I suppose it means that Poles deserved to be oppressed for making those uprisings in the first place. If they were loyal to Russians, Germans and Austrians then they wouldn't have been oppressed.

History / Grand Duke Constantine Pavlovich viceroy of Poland - What do you think of him? [11]

I've heard that he was a pretty interesting guy. He had a habit of of wearing Polish army uniform whenever he was in Russia and Russian uniform during his stay in Poland, just to spite everybody. He also spoke Polish fluently and claimed to be a better Pole than most ethnic Poles. There were also rumours that during the Uprising he had been singing Polish national anthem in front of Russian army officials, one of which got so offended that he handed his resignation.

As if there was no Russophobia in Polish literature. Our countries have usually seen each other as enemies and enemies rarely talk well of each other.

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

or about how Israel harbors no ill filling towards Poland

Israel harbors no ill feelings towards Poland just as Poland harbors no ill feelings towards Israel. There are sad incidents and stupid statements from both sides but generally the countries are neutral towards each other. Some of the articles in official press, as well as comments attached to them do make me bitter (and a LOT) but here, on this forum, I have to side with those whose arguments aren't reduced to 'you will die, you and your family'.

And I read the comments on this thread. I'm just itching to correct Ben's idiotic rambligs about the supposed 'common' use of the word 'Żydki' which I have never before encountered, or MareGaea's statement about the number of Polish victims in Auchwitz (which is closer to 150 000 and that is HUGE number for a single place - there were wars where countries lost less people in total)

But then I see YOU calling others racist and I couldn't ignore that.

And by the way - Both Irgun and Lehi recieved support from Poland.

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

Oh, I see you're no longer Greek, Sokrates. My apologies.

I was refering to your overall statements on this forum. In practically every single one of your comments you attack Jews somehow - not just individuals but the whole nation - using very strong, openly hostile language. I could understand this sort of statements directed at Harry, who is unfair and hostile himself, but neither MareGaea nor Yehudi are this aggressive. In fact, their arguments are most of the time only defensive. They may be wrong sometimes or say something stupid in anger but in such a situation the proper response is to simply correct them, not attack them. Just compare their comments with pilsudski's. But if you tolerate joe pilsudski and at the same time expect Yehudi and MG to be perfect in every way and blame all their faults on their Jewishness then there is no other word for this but antisemitism.
