Life / Swine flu vaccinations taking place in Poland? [52]

actually it's not a live virus

One version is:

From Centers for Disease Control

Should people use antiviral drugs before or after receiving the live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) called FluMistĀ®?
LAIV is one of two types of flu vaccine. It is given as a nasal spray and contains weakened, live virus. Flu antiviral drugs taken from 48 hours before through 2 weeks after getting LAIV can lower or prevent the vaccinated person from responding to the vaccine and the person may not get immune protection from the vaccine.

Antiviral drugs can be taken with the inactivated (i.e. killed) flu vaccine.

You have to look at the very bottom of the page.

USA, Canada / US real estate crisis, how does it affect Polish-Americans [26]

I am starting to see a pick up here as well. More jobs on the job boards, more jobs to come, when you talk to people in your network. I am very worried that many of the jobs that have been lost may never come back. The government talks about retraining for the new economy, but try to retrain an 50 year old auto worker to work in a high tech industry. Not many will make the transition. That leaves a lot of folks working at Home Depot, Wal-Mart etc... So much for the good old days.

ShawnH:
The recession in bouncing back up

Quote Krysia please...

Has the peak of the NINJA Mortgage defaults occurred yet?

The other thing is, with the US Economy dependant on consumers, and so many of those consumers have lost their employment, it will take a while for the consumers to open the pocket books again. Everybody seems to be hell bent on debt reduction, not consumption.

British teeth, who on earth picked up on this?

I have heard the stereotype before as well, but there are a number of Brits I have come across over here, not so bad in the dental department.

News / Should Poland acquire the atomic bomb? [28]

Why not. If Iran can, So can Poland. And research could be done in the name of peaceful reduction of carbon being released in the burning of coal.

Who knows maybe their teeth were covered with ice.

Only between August an June. The rest of the year is ok, you can get around with your parka unbuttoned.

Yeah, me too. My ex :(

What, was she Polish, a dental hygenist or brooding. Maybe a combination of two of the three?

They are cooperating and inspectors can verify that.

Only time will tell if they are cooperating, or if long term playing cat and mouse will come up. I hope it is all good.

they played their card beautifully again. I don't know who else spotted it but they selected China and Russia to enrich their fuel. Hmm...what could America and Britain say to that?

Exactly why I mentioned the whole cat / mouse venture. You don't trust Iran, and you don't really trust Russia / China either. Will the inspectors really get the true picture... And if they do, will the US believe it (credibility factor?) If they don't what is to be gained?

A foreign monarchy cheapens your beautiful country

It is purely historical and ceremonial. The boys who fought and died on Vimy Ridge gave Canada a place among nations, not just being another nice little colony. Several constitutional changes over the years have made us pretty much a de facto, independent nation, free to make our own way in the world. Except when America says jump. Then we are their lap dogs. :-)

The Canadian constantly refers to us as stupid and yet we don't have a foreigner who basically won some hereditary lottery on our court house walls.

Like I said, a ceremonial function. Would it have been better if the French had won at the Plains of Abraham? Maybe we would be kissing Sarkozy's ass whenever he came over. As for the stupid part, feel free to kick a newfie, we do, and it is fun.

Canada is nothing but a cheap outpost to the arrogant Brit. Why would you celebrate them like you do?

Much like it is a cheap resource pit for American consumption? We celebrate it just like you celebrate Washington crossing the Delaware. It is history.

Do you have a source for this toothpaste?

Doesn't have to be that accurate, just big enough to rattle the mirrors off the walls.

News / Should Poland acquire the atomic bomb? [28]

Give me a good reason why that should be the case.

Let me start by saying I don't think Israel should have them either, but given my druthers, I'd druther have Israel have them over some tin pot fundamentalist Islamic nation like let's say, Pakistan. Simple reasons are the security of said weapons and the likeliness they would be used for defensive purposes rather than offensive purposes. The great deterrent, I think they called it.

The very fact of intervention and chasing those weirdie beardies. The tribal areas are soon to be shaken up and this will lead to headlopping paradise for those frail oil chaps. In fact, the Pakistan national army went in a couple of weeks back. Bombs are going off quicker than whor*s drop their kegs. Pakistan was never that unstable prior to US and NATO intervention. They want to wreak havoc to give themselves a reason to be there.

Cockroaches tend to head for the corners when somebody turns on the lights. I think somebody turned on a light in Kandahar, and the cockroaches went to Pakistan.

UK, Ireland / Britain's bad teeth [77]

Maybe not but being an individual is.

Like what, not participating in Iraq? By maintaining relations with Cuba? By supporting Multilateralism with a number of countries around the world that America won't talk to? By proposing the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces, and placing our boys in harms way between warring factions? By sending our troops to hurricane ravaged New Orleans to provide water, assistance and security?

Your European handlers haven't tutored you on that apparently.

Proof that European Handlers dictate Canadian Policy, please.

Where's your rock n' roll

Well, since Canada was less likely to promote slavery, something the US and UK have a deep tradition with, we never had the disaffected black population that the US had. It seems that rock and roll was another thing that America took from the formerly enslaved black people, twisted it and called it their own. But since there is a buck to be made from it, we have provided the US with entertainers such as Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Denny Doherty (of The Mamas & the Papas), David Clayton-Thomas (of Blood, Sweat & Tears), Andy Kim, Zal Yanovsky (of The Lovin' Spoonful), John Kay (of Steppenwolf), Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Rush, Brian Adams..... But need I go on?

Also, President seems to like his crack berry.

You don't buy Chinese sh.t?

I never contended that we didn't, just dispelling your point about US blessing Canada with jobs aplenty.

How long to you think the Chinese ascent will continue?

Depends on how deep in the hole America puts herself in.

The American public actually is waking up and not everyone shops at Walmart.

Yes, only 3 more years until the next election. But by then, it may be too late. Don't worry about Walmart, I hear their shares are a steal right now, the US unemployment rate is going to hit the levels of the mid 80's, and people will be looking for cheap deals.

Like a 3 hour wait to see the doctor. Lucky you. Pretty soon they will tax the magazine you read at the clinic

But the thing is, I get to see one. I don't have to worry about co-pay, or whether my insurance will cover it, or the drugs that he may prescribe. I know it won't likely bankrupt the family, if I need an operation. And god forbid, if I walk into any emergency department holding my severed arm, the first question I hear won't be "and how will you be paying for this?".

Well I am glad you weren't charged for a visit you didn't make. Here in Canada, we only pay for the dentist when we go.

I like to have them professionally scraped and cleaned every 6 months or so.
