Language / Things Polish people who speak English language say [180]

So what does this mean?

My wife says "Puszcz Kot" to the kids when they are torturing the cat, I think it means put it down.... Same root word?

she probably says 'puść kota' - let the cat go. you're probably having problems hearing the last vowel in the second word because your wife pronounces it much quieter then the other parts. when my friends ask me for a word in Polish i often have to make an effort to make them hear well the word's ending.

cool thread. first post gave me a good laugh, especially having in mind that I probably make those pronounciation mistakes every day .... Ukpolska - keep 'em coming!!!

i'm aware of the "can't" bit for years now, but can't get my head around it. tried, asked some people to give me a clue but it just doesn't work.

Love / I cheated on my girlfriend (I'm British, my gf is Polish) [167]

And also if its not human nature to stay with one person then why do people get jealous?

not much sense in this question.
what's the relation between jealousy and being with one person.

if you live with two guys and one of them gets interested in another girl, you'll still be jealous, or not?

Love / Question: Do Polish girls prefer married men? [59]

funny, you blame the girl. after all, she hasn't sworn anything to you Ladybird. right?
the dude has, though. it's him who broke his word, not the girl. i wonder if this 'hypocrisy' wouldn't apply to your husband rather than the girl.

Love / Question: Do Polish girls prefer married men? [59]

im glad this is very entertaining for you!

sorry to hear of your predicament. With the benefit of distance and total lack of involvement, I think you're making a mistake. But that is what life is about I suppose.

Good luck, i hope you have some good friends on standby. :(

feels as if I had insulted someone bad. am I too cinical to get it, maybe?

Angel Eyes, no, I don't find what happened entertaining.

But the worse is the hipocrisy about ...

well, I'm sorry you had to learn about it in such circumstances.
next time you come across a preacher, or a believer, throw a brick...

Love / Question: Do Polish girls prefer married men? [59]

quite common for polish girls t have affairs with married men.

if they have affairs they have to have it with someone. statistically a 'someone' will be married in 50 % of cases, right?

do not blame Polish girls. kick your husband on the nuts instead..

Language / Should I learn both Polish and German [147]

Not to generalize, but certain nationalities seem actually grateful for correction, non-linguistic speakers as they may be

you do generalize and what you wrote is soooo not true

Life / Looking for high resolution "orzel" [17]

glowa- image processing- what kind of programs do you use for this?

hi, i was gone for the weekend, so couldn't reply.
normally I don't use any ready-to-use software because I tend to design fully automatic techniques for medical imaging. that means, that I basically do a lot of programming and create small software packages that do specific tasks.

but if I need to do something very simple by clicking, my choice is Gimp.

I don't know how good you are with Illustrator/PS I

well, i'm not, image processing is my research field, i might be able to do better than those programs ;)

and it would be fun to use my work for something more fun than usual.

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

vast majority is more or less against.

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

I doubt there's a straight answer. You shouldn't expect one.

i guess there's the ' scared of new and unknown' factor, the homophobic catholic church and many other mostly utterly stupid reasons.

it is a fact, though, that most of those loud-screamed voices of intolerance (regarding gay, Jews, even the concept of EU(!!!)) source from the polish church.

but to me, even if there's an 'explanation', as I'm a Pole myself, it remains a mystery, why people so easily fall for it.

why is the first image posted by Eurola difficult, because of the curvature of the edges?

is this closer to what you're looking for?

UK, Ireland / Currency - better to exchange it in Poland or in the UK? [6]

yes, it's true, if you exchange money in one of the cash exchange offices.
if you use an ATM then the rates will be similar to what you can get in the UK
euro will be rather useless to you in Wrocław. you need Polish money.

but, indeed, if you're going to use relatively 'normal' amounts of money it won't make big difference

Work / Internship in Krakow. Visa/Work Permit Question [5]

spoke of my company acquiring a work permit for me

i think that would imply that indeed you need a permit

however:

...that foreigners from non-UE countries will be able to work in Poland for three months without a job permit, unless the company hiring them signs a statement confirming willingness to employ them...

Language / Translations of Gadu-Gadu [158]

download program called Gaim (googgle it to find the dowload site) and there you can set up a GG account and use it the same way as the original. only you'll have it in any language you choose

there's one thing in gg that people seem to like, which doesn't exist in msn, that is you can start a conversation to someone who's not in your friends list, anyone who's logged in at the moment. it also means that anyone can start talking to you at any moment you're logged in. happens to me awfully often.
