Is this by any chance Giles' famous Lost club? I think we should be told

Dammit, I've been rumbled

What I meant to say was that this would be invaluable research for my Doctoral thesis on the impact of overt homosexuality on the psycho-subliminal pysche of the British working man. I live in a village that is so small that we don't have a single gay, not even a fat welsh one called Dafyd so opportunities for research are very limied.

UK, Ireland / Great Britain - which countries does it include? [95]

Fear not, within a few years the Union will be no more and there will be four separate countries again, oh and probably the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands. I hear Cornwall might want independence too.

NOOO! I'm cool with my life. Its jusst that I am really a fashion victim. I can make a Hugo Boss suit look like it came form a charity shop:)

That's why I hate the Italians cos they look smart in anything:)

Life / Polish Girl Fashion - "less is more"? [108]

Was in Milan for a year once. It didn't work until palms were greased.... Frustrating place I agree. Almost lost a lot of money on a dodgy deal out there...

Study / Comparing Educational Standards in Poland vs other countries [88]

I don't think many people would want to go to Poland for a Degree

That actually has more to do with the prestige of western countries (= prestige of western universities) rather then with educational level displayed by them, or by their eastern equivalents.

I agree with Matyjasz.

There is also the language problem when choosing a university in a non-English speaking country.

News / The Impact of Poland joining the EU [64]

It’s almost three years now since Poland entered the EU. Aside from the obvious impact on the relative freedom of Poles to work elsewhere in the EU, what do you consider to be the main impacts of accession, both positive and negative?

Nice move:)

As long as my partners in Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Thailand don't do a runner so have I. Off on a whistlestop tour round the first three tomorrow for four days just to make sure they're not planning to do just that:)

In Thailand. Three villas on Koh Samui, part share in a hotel on Koh Samui. and two aprtments in BK

Very true M. It won't be long before people are priced out of areas where they have grown up, just like here in the UK

UK, Ireland / Have you heard of Sheffield United Football Club? [11]

I think the poster is looking for anecdotal stories about The Blades. You know, things like they have the cheapest meat pies in the Premiership (dunno if this is true btw) or they used to hang visiting supporters if they wore more than two scarves. Sorry, can't help being a Liverpool fan an all.

They got thumped at Chelsea this weekend if that helps. Oh and they've got the biggest mouthed manager in the world.

USA, Canada / Polish Canadians [117]

The gentlest and least prejudiced people I've ever met (and I've travelled a lot) are the inhabitants of the British Isles: English, Irish, and Scots.

he must have a really bad experiance in those countries, which, of course doesn't justify his rants.

No Miranda, he is obviously deranged. Gentlest, least prejudiced? And I come from here!:)

My vote goes for Thailand or Vietnam.

Language / Why don't you have only one past tense in English? [14]

Ah conjugation (for years I thought you would be arrested for it)

Overview follows

1. Judy saved thirty dollars. (past)
2. Judy will save thirty dollars. (future)
3. Judy has saved thirty dollars. (present perfect)
4. Judy had saved thirty dollars by the end of last month. (past perfect)
5. Judy will have saved thirty dollars by the end of this month. (future perfect)

In total there are about (as I recall) thirty different tense combinations. The five above should be enough to srat with. Imperfect tenses next (I was planning to do them now but work got in the way)

Language / Why don't you have only one past tense in English? [14]

It is all right learning grammar terms but they have to be used too.

Very true Michal. A lot of the tenses have fallen into disuse anyway. Its a pareto distribution, you will be correct 90% of th etime with 10% of the knowledge. Anyway I notice you are studying law which is a far more complex language!

Excuse me. The correct method of using this Forum would have been for you to have posted an entry into a new thread under the job opportunities section and then waited for the response. We are merely reacting to the fact that you have hijacked every thread with the same entry. Use the forum correctly and we will not repond in this manner.

Life / Puertorican says GOOD-BYE to Poland forever [104]

Hey Jose, do you seriously believe that you can converse with people from around the world via written communication in a publicly available Forum and not uncover reactions that are not typical or representative? Most people in most countries are good people but everyone has their fair share of bigots and self opinionated, vocal antagonists. You have chosen to debate racialism and nationalism in a Forum. Take a word of advice from someone whom you kindly referred to as a dinosaur (ageism sucks too my friend) and keep those conversations face to face in the future and with people you know well. Yes you have been naive in my opinion but I have the impression (which is all you can get from these exchanges) that you are a good and caring person. And like Daffy says, Poland is a wonderful country. Your best chance of seeing that is to visit.
