History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Is it not the case that Poland also supported the Franco's fascist forces

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C4%85browszczacy

Dąbrowszczacy, also known as Dąbrowski's Brigade or Dombrowsky Battalion was a predominantly Polish International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). About 5,000 Poles fought in that unit. The Brigade was named after the 19th century Polish general Jarosław Dąbrowski. The unit was formed as Dąbrowski's battalion in October 1936; in June 1937 it was reorganised into the 150th Brigade, which in addition to two Polish battalions (Dąbrowski's and Palefox's) included also a Hungarian (Rakosy's) and a Belgian-French (Marty's) one

Poland was second biggest arms supplier to the Republic, just after USSR

Polish gov was neutral during spanish civil war but there were some volunteer units on Republican side fighting against Franco :-). What is more Poland was 2nd Republica arms supplier during this war.

In 1941 it was decided to destroy the Polish nation completely and the German leadership decided that in 10 to 20 years the Polish state under German occupation was to be fully cleared of any ethnic Poles

Well as to German interpretation of history ... LOL.

Germans have tensions with more and more their neighbours because they think that they can be "the dog" again. In my opinion they are steping towards mistakes made by them in the past. Listen the voice of Switzerland ... listen to reasons why Belgians want to split in two pieces (listen to arguments of German part of the country).

Go back in the history and remember why Germans were fighting on two fronts during WWII. ... Germans were using different methods on west and east but always at the end were fighting on two fronts.

Many of your neighbours see it, as you know your close neighbours have the best knowledge about you.

...oh...and there is nothing you can do to change it...

Oh well ... this case shows us that even if you are not right you push forward project using your strenght ... you do such things with different neighbours ... don't be surprised that sombody will make coalition against you ... inside of EU (I am not talking military military aliance).

I don't see what a polish led EU-alliance could do about it? Explain please...

You push propaganda projects ... which are wrong. You start to bother your neighbours...

Don't be surprised when such cloalition will push project you don't like and which is very wrong using its strenght.

Steibach is the best face for this project... expeled from house which has been stolen by her father.

Oooooch...is poor little Luki scared by big bad neighbours again...oooch....should I look under your bed for monsters again, yes? :(

Don't try to use such arguments. It is fact ... times when in Europe small or biger country were taken seriously are over.

It is good that Europe after enlargment doesn't have to listen Germans in everything and will of others in EU can be implemented without the Germans ... If Germans will continue their policy of bothering neighbours ... other should send them sign that they are not alone in europe.

Well, so is Merkel...that would make her too an active Nazi supporter! Hmmm...

It doesn't make her neo - nazi ...

It shows that Germans are BACK :-) with their old policies. :) Lithen to Switzerland ... listen to Holland :-) ... Your lovely neighbours noticed the change :-)

As for me Bratwurst likes when sobody calles them Nazis...

Well I wouldn't say so... For me there are many signs that ... Germans are back ...

Lets say 1st reich not 3rd reich...

Which alwyas played dirty games. Well ... "dear" Germans ... there are many voices form your neigbourhood - not only form Poland. It is only question of time when you will not be able to form coalitions in neigbourhood.

You want to build museum of people who expeled Poles form their land ... it is your choice and it is sign that again if you stay on this path ... you are going to have as alwyas problems and as alwyas at the end you will cry like maniac when he realizes what he has done durring previuous night.

This museum is just symbol ... of the change in German mind.

At the end as always :

Reality is that they will buy it back.

Harry is very racist person ... but I've got small surprise : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Löcknitz

Since Poland joined the Schengen Agreement, the population of Löcknitz is growing, as rates and costs of land acquisition are lower than in Poland. Many commuters from Szczecin are living in Löcknitz [2] and the first economical investments are made in Löcknitz by Polish enterprises

Both countries have demographic problems so it is just curiosity.

Well I haven't seen such enormous propaganda.

First of all ...

Prussians expeled many Poles from their houses before WWI. Durring WWII wanted to expele more ...

What is the saddest - that German elites start to think that germans were vicitimes ...

well ... it is very sad

History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

Question....WOULD had Poles fighted along german troops against the Soviets if the pushes came to shove?

This epizode comes to my mind ... :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Józef_Piłsudski

At a meeting in Paris in 1914, Piłsudski presciently declared that in the impending war, for Poland to regain independence, Russia must be beaten by the Central Powers (the Austro-Hungarian and German Empires), and the latter powers must in their turn be beaten by France, Britain and the United States.

Polish Legions (Polish Legiony Polskie) was the name of Polish armed forces created in August of 1914 in Galicia. Thanks to the efforts of KSSN and the Polish members of the Austrian parliament, the unit became an independent formation of the Austro-Hungarian Army. They were composed mostly of former members of various scouting organisations, including Drużyny Strzeleckie and Związek Strzelecki, as well as volunteers from all around the empire.

Even if not both groups were fighting under the western allied command against the Soviets occupying Poland???

NSZ was right ... AK was so much allied with "Western" allies that after the war many of them were executed by soviets ... or imprisoned by them ... (one of the biggest anti-nazi resistance in europe ... )

Part of NSZ was able to survive and withdraw on west... when it was clear that west is not going to help for Poland ... they saved their life after proud fight against occupators.

If you ask if NSZ was killing Soviets - yes

If you ask if NSZ was killing Germans - yes

History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

All I know is that during WW1 Germans complained how Poles did not want to fight for Germany.

In WWI Poles were allied with Austrains ... it was the plan

"At a meeting in Paris in 1914, Piłsudski presciently declared that in the impending war, for Poland to regain independence, Russia must be beaten by the Central Powers (the Austro-Hungarian and German Empires), and the latter powers must in their turn be beaten by France, Britain and the United States."

After Russian defeat ... most troops chnaged side on French one ... or rejected to continue fight. Nothing to be ashamed about... Poles predicted WWI result in 1914 and it was beautiful succesful real politics. Poles should always fight for their interest.

He does not mention Poles as the 4th largest military force in Europe fighting against Germans.

Yes in WWII - Poles were 4th the biggest anti-German force. NSZ was one of them ...

In my opinion when we look on final results of WWII - invason on Germany in 1936 with France or alliance with Soviets in 1939 was the best option. Or fight on German side (only in case of their defeat - occupation would be much softer in this case) Soviets were treating Poland in the same way as they treaten German ally Hungary.

Both the AK (or at least units who were given the chance to) and the NSZ were willing to fight against the same enemy

Which invaded Poland form the east in 1939 ... :) = Soviets

I am looking on it from todays perspective and results of WWII

How do you think a peasant country of 30 million could had held on the most sophisticated country of 80 million!

Poland had better tanks than German in 1939 ... and aircraft ... Germans had numerous advantage. :) Don't forget about French ...

Do try reading the thread. We are trying to talk about Poles fighting the Russians and doing so alongside Germans, we are not talking about Poles fighting with the Germans.

You are trying to do your everyday job. You use dariusz for this purpose ... you can't quote sources ... that is your problem.

You don't get me Lukasz...I know what you WANT, but I doubt that you CAN!

The point is that in 1936 ... Germans were weak ... and broken signed by them agreement. It was possible in 1936 ...

In 1939 ... it wasn't possible and that is why it was better to enter aliance with Soviets and accept something what happened in 1945.

That is the point.
