Language / difference among jechać, pojechać, and jeździć? [14]

Marek - ptaki do latają ;)

its just planes and similar (baloons) that don't fruwają ;)

'lecieć' (perf.) = to fly, but for vehicular travel only, NEVER for winges creatures!!! vs. 'latać' (imperf.) = also, to fly etc....

it's planes that never do fruwają

living creatures can perfectly well latać ;)

Travel / Train journey Ostrava _ Wroclaw [4]

there is no direct connection between the two
the simplest and cheapest connection is to change trains in Kędzierzyn Koźle
but the thing is there is only one train from Kędzierzyn-Koźle to Ostrava so it may turn quite impractical
you can go for changing trains in Katowice (many more options)

will do some more research on that

oh and the duration of the jurney hmm maybe hmm quite long (the Kędzierzyn connection is the shortest one)

Language / Polish etymology [8]

well osiol they were once thought of as having Polish etymologies (the two months) or some Polish, Slavic etymologies have been attributed to them - it is easy to understand when you notice that they look much luck Polish/Slavic words (in Polish spelling)

on the other hand Polish literate spheres where much influenced by Latin during 17th and say first half of the 18th centuries (because the sort of education they received)

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

well if the citizens of Kaliningrad oblast' wish to have things as they are what is the problem

btw I find it nice to have a direct border with Russian Federation no matter how not so much Russian history the area has. it just gives more flavour

perheps the custom police would disagree though

btw do citizens of the area have any say as to their future

or is held in fast grip of some military originated 'mafias'

Life / Polish men in shorts with sandals and socks.. [63]

well women dress up cause their like to, why should men bother to do the same if it's against their instincts

socks with sandals are often more practical - there are sorts of sandals (like the guy is wearing in the picture somewhere above - well they are not really sandals - they are called 'laczki' in Polish which comes from German Latsche(n)) that get quite slippery and dangerous when your feet sweat considerably.

and in certain weather conditions socks and sandals are more practical (which someone already mentioned above) - it's not always hot during summer

this said I actually don't wear sandals at all - I am not used to - i really like walking bare foot though
when you are going out in the wild sandals are simply impractical - it's not really nice to have your feet cut by thorns or burned with nettle or the like.

I would however agree (from my own experience too) then in hot climate (say southern Italy, not to mention anything further south) it is really more comfortable to wear sandals (and no socks) haven't been there much but when your whole body is covered with sweat regardless of in sunlight or in shade your feet tend to soak with sweat and no socks in shoes can last long in these circumstances

and ladies you can turn a blind or can't you :P

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

Seanus - if in a couple of years NATO looses its importance considerably standing on the brink of being not operational - wouldn't calling it temporary be somehow justified?

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

What I can see shopgirl you really hate to see people going about their post-war grieves

And are very keen to quickly coin it as hate.

Look for the beam in your own eye sometimes.

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

what you do is calling people names

if you hate those who have some grieves or even rants and call their names and attribute some intentions or feelings they do not hold - who you are then

if you moan about moaners are you any better

what positive there is in your stance - you being jugdemental?

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

War in Afghanistan will end up abruptly by western forces fleeing from there - this is my view of it Seanus and it can happen sooner than two years - the whole thing is ill-doomed - many signs show it

Americans withdraw much of financial support for NATO already or in coming months say next year (they were funding most of NATO activities from the very beginning)

where do you think NATO stands in this scenario

methinks in the middle of nowhere

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

I don't get you Seanus - what popularity of NATO in Poland has to do with the future of the pact?

Well, people sometimes have visions, but it takes lot's of other people to follow the vision to make it true - at least as for political visions (or social)

This said I have no idea what was Mr's Robertson vision for NATO - (i.e. it didn't reach popular circulation in Poland)

History / Territories of eastern Germany should rightfully belong to Poland? [161]

What propaganda? Pro-polish propaganda? :)

instilling fears (and outrage) in German nation that their neighbours dream of wiping it out man

are you that blind???

I have seen many times how easy is to cause outrage in Germans (at least some including many educated) - internet forums show that no so many Germans hold balanced views

and appear to be that civilized they would like to be perceived

well I should mention Polish idiots for the balance as well - balanced views are not promoted that much in Poland at all

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

Seanus - what can Poles do against wills of say France Germany if they are not interested in any significant role of the pact in the future

Polish initiatives for Georgia membership were played down easy by Germany and France to give you an example
Germany and France do not wish the pact to be a defence against possible Russian aggressive policies

and what I see is a steady decline of importance of NATO in the future cause it's in no interest of German and French elites and nowhere near their political vision

what is going on now is some desperate attempts at lending some new spirit to NATO
which are quite faint

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

I can imagine NATO without France and Germany

but not based on the attitudes presented so far

no ideas for NATO are viable without Germany's support at the moment (and they aligned themselves with the French on many issues)

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

Seanus - there is already no issues that hold the NATO countries together or the issues are far from being priorities for most European states - it does tell a thing or two

there are issues shared by some of NATO countries though
for example France and Germany

there are agendas shared by some parts of the elites of European countries which are not btw necesarily shared by the nations themselves

Language / Dates in Polish ( examples ) [21]

sobota, 23 maja, 2009

maj - nominative

23 maja - short for 23 dzień maja (just like in English I suppose)

23th day of May

maja is genetive in this case (of maj obviously)

upiec is a perfective (perfect) form of piec

piec is imperfective

you can 'piec' and 'piec' and 'nie upiec' - bake, bake and have anything really baked (properly)

Law / legal question - how to close a company in Poland? [9]

as far as I know you just have to go to where you registered the company and let them know you want to close the firm (this is if the company is not a spółka zoo. (limited liability company)

Language / Parę - two or a few? [26]

News / Poland and Germany - Germany unhappy with the present border with Poland? [88]

noone in his good mind plans any expulsions in these times (in civilised parts of world) so what is the aim of the declaration??

some hidden agendas?

some trying to pass as victims while being perpetrators?

btw German sorry European administration of Kosovo had not much against Kosovars expelling Serbs (well it was not as organised as it used to be in the WWII of course) - say it was exerting pressure on Serbs to leave

I know this is a game to get the votes by German political parties - but hey they have fed this thing called expelees associations - German constitution used to state that Germany is a state with borders as they were in 1937 (I don't know what it is now - is it any different)?

News / Poland and Germany - Germany unhappy with the present border with Poland? [88]

Would a declaration against paedophiles also make you ask about a hidden agenda???

declaration against expulsions is just as badly needed as one against pedophiles

and yes I am very suspicious - our prime minister used to bash on pedophiles a couple of months ago - called for harsh treatment etc (obligatory chemical castration or the like) - and no it was not because it was really in urgent need - it was beacause our prime minister (the present one) needed to bolster his Public Relation image (I should add that nothing he proposed found way to real legislation)

post-war Poland never made claims to any lands previously within Polish borders

yes these infringement rights are somehow hmmm necessary???

Ironside:
Harry:
That in 1951 Poland claimed territory which had been Polish before WWII.
who and where?

The Polish government and the area around Ustrzyki Dolne.

The Polish government and the area around Ustrzyki Dolne.

This was a territory exchange with the SU - Poland gave away the area of Sokal and were given Ustrzyki vicinity - soon the Soviets developed coal mining industry around Sokal (Wladymir Volynski) - don't know if it still in operation now

so the exchange was rather favourable to the Soviets

Law / legal question - how to close a company in Poland? [9]

if it is a privately owned firm yes it is possible to suspend its activity

don't know weather this is the case with spółka z o.o. - but I guess it's not - though it would not be agaisnt logic - no liabilities vanish if you suspend a personally owned firm and the same could also be true for spółka z o.o.

legal services are quite expensive for Polish standards - I would expect the price to be over 1000 zl (perhaps even twice as much) in all - but I am not an insider

News / Polish media and journalists: plain incompetent or just unreliable? [7]

unreliable for the most part - the younger ones following herd instincts

the star level ones unobjective, manipulative (not all of course)

there are of course many who are honest, strive to be objective, don't join those who would manipulate

as for the moral qualities of some Polish media and journalists there is a fresh example of dealings of the Dziennik newspaper with a blogger under the nickname Kataryna

btw most media in Poland have their agendas - the most obvious example is Gazeta Wyborcza
