News / is the Czech Republic economy stronger then the Polish one [25]

Quoting: dannyboy
Czech doesn't sound that different to Polish, just like Polish spoken with a rural accent to be honest.

My Polish friends call czechs 'pigeons' and have some slang about pigeons shitting on a window sill.

My czech friends call Poles potatoes and say they are arrogant drunks like german tourists.

Personally I don't believe either party:)

i wonder what's causing this dislike between Polish and Czechs ?

LOL, relax mate. Its not dislike, its banter and its perfectly normal for neighbours. Look at England/Ireland or Kazhakstan/Uzbekistan or Germany/France or Sweden/Norway.

Life / Poland: The Things That Make Foreigners Lift a Brow [123]

Steve: 'It's the famous Polish vodka talking.' Why is it allegedly so famous? Famous with whom? Please, enlighten me in this matter, because although it (whatever it is) is allegedly so famous, I have never heard of it. Or maybe you made up this allegedly famous thing in some drunken or narcotic stupor?

LMFAO, eloquently put mate :)

News / What do Poles think about the newly elected French president? [30]

Daffy is on the ball here, big changes to come in Poland.

Some of the reasons that Poland is not secular is because
a) the clergy have not been seen to commit the same abuses in day to day life as they have in other countries - they are essentially allowed to marry and take partners from my experience which prevents a lot of warped abuse

b) reasons from communisim
c) the economic state of the country ( which is emerging)
d) Pope John Paul II
..
..
many more

Regarding Sarkozy, I personally feel it was the right choice.
I hope he doesn't reconcile too much because Bush is out in 2 years anyway, and Tony Blair will be out shortly, this will reset the balance on relations and people will vote differently next time in the US

UK, Ireland / Poles to stay or not to stay [in Ireland] - is there a question? [25]

Just what the country needed imo.
Couldn't really pick a better nation for immigrants - roman catholic, white, (developing) English speakers, hard workers, well educated.

No better nation for integration.

I don't want romanians or bulgarians unfortunately, not racist but it would pull things asunder.

News / EURO Currency : Should Poland join?? [9]

Daffy, far as I'm aware, they are required by their accession treaties to joint the euro.
But I do take your point into consdieration.

from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro
As of 2007, 11 new EU member states had a currency other than the euro; however, all of these countries are required by their Accession Treaties to join the euro. Some of the following countries have already joined the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, ERM II. They and the others have set themselves the goal of joining the euro (EMU III) as follows:

Personally, I think Poland will the the last of the A10 countries to join. The economy is too weak, big country, lots of people. I would guess 2017, although other economically better countries will join sooner - slovakia, czech

Life / How to convince somebody to stay in Poland?? [20]

Against:
1. Polish on Polish crime in her country of destination - extortion, rape, blackmail, protection rackets,........ can be solved by not living with other Poles

2. Jealousy of Poles at home: other poles at home will be so jealous they will speak ill of her but will be her best friend when she calls around with money. Cannot be solved - every country has greedy knackers.

3. Language barriers - signs are in english > a lot of Poles are shocked when they realise they can't even read basic road signs, things you take for granted. Easily solved - adjust to language quickly

4. Menial jobs - she may not get a job in her chosen profession and may have to perform some McJob. Matter of time - persevere and she will progress

For:
1. Develop language skills
2. Earn money for a car/house/business at home in Poland
3. Make herself more employable at home
4. Send money back to her family (not feel guilty that she was too selfish to travel abroad and earn money for them)
5. Support the Polish economy 3.5 times better than if she worked at home, and 5.7 times better than if she stayed at home without a job
6. Progress into a career in a foreign country, bring the skills home to the economic boom in Poland in 5/10 years.
7. Spread the good news of Poland to foreigners.
8. Give back to Europe and the EU instead of just Poland.

Some of the reasons that Poland is not secular is because

Poland is a secular country, wether it fits your definition of secular is another thing.

Good point & fair comment!

Are reiligous holidays still celebrated in Poland?

Secular means that church & state are seperated and that there is no state religion. Wether or not priests can have relationships or not isn't something the state decides but the Vatican.

You misunderstood my point.

Factors which contributed to a secular state in other countires not experienced in Poland include widescale pedophilia which was prevented given the restrictions which are not applied in Poland which are applied in other catholic countries, namely the vatican/roman catholic restriction on clergy having partners.

When Bishop Casey had a relationship in Ireland, he had to flee the country, thats only about 15years ago. What the other priests were doing behind closed confession doors was far worse.

In my numerous trips to Poland, I have seen great priests with families, nobody says anything because they're fecking great priests!

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

First, I love this statues and I think they are fascinating. For me as a tourist, they really brighten up a holiday.

Second, I agreed with grzegorsz's response earlier.

Third, Crow, The EU is a far more powerful union than a slavic alliance ever could be, militarily, economically, whatever. Besides a slavic alliance would be a mere subset.

Fourth, we had all of these things in Ireland years ago and we found ways around them.
For example, in Poland there was the holocaust, in Ireland there was the Famine (which resulted in a proportionally larger percentage of our death and migration of our population)

We also learned how to topple imperial statues without leaving much room for discussion

LMAO, I think your just playing naieve now.
BTW, you still didn't understand my point, I was referring to contributory factors not preventative measures, but forget it, it doesn't seem to be that obvious outside of my society I reckon.

Daffy, did you get the point I was making, contributory factors etc.?

In which case substitute girlfriend for altar boy and home for vestry.

In that case, give him a copy of altar boy monthly, gauge his reaction by the centerfold spread and determine the correct course of action.

Alternatively, dress up for him?

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

Anti-Slavisim, I find that hilarious.

Half the world has no concept or understanding of the term Slavic. I'm afraid Slavisim is really only common among the slavic people themselves.

Among the commonmen of society:
Ask a new yorker where Poland is - he will say Russia.
Ask a nigerian where Belarus is - he will say Russia.
Ask a chinese man where Ukraine is - he will say Russia.
Ask an irish or british person where Georgia is - they will point to the US.

Only the general population in Central Europe can distinguish and the well educated in other countries.

The fact is that the vast majority of the world's people know very little about the former USSR's satellite states and what little they know about the USSR they learned from ROCKY IV and RED HEAT or THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.

This area of the world was isolated for a very long time, longer than the memories of a lot of elderly people.

Latter 20th Century Eastern Europe is a black hole in history due to communisim and only now are people starting to piece the puzzle together.

I for one knew nothing about Poland other than WW2 before the Poles came over here, and I certainly couldn't distinguish between Russian and Polish.

I even thought Poles used cyrillic.

Anti-semite is credible because they were a far flung people, highly visible.
How can you be anti-slavic if you don't even understand what it is?

not bad either.

Apparently police starting off earn about 17,000 per year which leaves no alternative than accepting bribes or corruption tbh.

Been on the forum 25mins, so far I have seen remarks made against Russians, Germans, USA, British

this is ********!

News / Polish/German/Russian relations [304]

I strongly disagree.

I believe the science of determining a persons character based on preconceived stereotypical misinformation (a.k.a propaganda) is as useful as studying sheep turds and intestines to determine if the gods are angry with us.

Judging by the amount of turd on PolishForums lately, I think a volcano will erupt soon enough.

Love / Why english men like polish women ? [126]

Polish men hm.... one men very nice, two not nice

I think she means to say a polish man on his own is friendly, curteous however when he is in a group, he is not quite so.

Basia, there are plenty of good Polish men too because I have met them (although they never bought me a drink, funnily enough ;=).

Perhaps you have just been unlucky?

Love / Foreigner's opinion about polish ladies [304]

Quoting: dannyboy
Personally, I find the Polish women are difficult to get pregnant, they demand too much intensive force!

ohohooo, u mean polish ladies are not that easy to f**?:P and very good:P we, poles are prolific and we have no problem with gettin pregnant!^^ maybe we just dotn wanna let anybody do it, we wait for apropriate man!;p

No-no, I have the polish woman already, she is my trophy, on the mantelpiece next to the wall with the lion's head and the elephant tusks.

But she demands too much intensive force.

Therefore because she is an individual who is Polish I deduce that all Polish women must be so.

So you see my logic is infallable.

USA, Canada / My personal (Polish) view on USA. [105]

crazywhores, you make some good points.

I don't agree with all out freedom, nor with all out banning.

I think the world has changed a lot, since that consitution was penned, and America is both WorldPolice and PublicEnemy No.1 at the same time.

Its unlikely that America would be invaded nowadays but that could all change in the next 5 years for all we know.
I don't expect war in Europe but its possible.
Some crazy Pole may invade Germany to get revenge for the humiliation of WW2, in much the same way the Germans did for the treaty of versailles after WW1.

Hmm. This is news to me. Let's hope that he doesn't (or does) have a John Bonham moment then!

He doesn't eat the sandwiches, he believes the sandwiches are alien life forms which guide him in his day to day political decisions.

Do ham sandwiches speak Polish?

USA, Canada / My personal (Polish) view on USA. [105]

I agree with you on most of those points except for the democracy bit.

Unfortunately the threat to democracy in the USA is far larger than what people realise at the moment. Every consecutive president brings in a progressively more autocratic system and the mainstream are gradually becoming more conservative.

I believe the truest representation of democracy today exists in the EU.

The UK also took on the challenge of world police long before the US, as did the French, however this was done in the name of Empire and Imperial power.

One of the redeeming features of US global power is that they do not require an untermensch in the same way that other Empires did.

One thing is sure. The world would have been fcuked if the US weren't involved in the last century.
