Life / Poles in Poland: How did you learn your English? [60]

how you learn english?

I played a lot of old computer games, lots of text to read and translate, always had a dictionary by my side while playing ; ) Right now I've got an xbox console with a built in microphone headset system so I can talk to or "try to talk to" anyone from nearly any country I want to.. but if you don't like games that's probably not an option for you. Of course I also had additional english lessons at different english schools...

Genealogy / Polish Variations of Nick, Please help! [5]

I think there was always a certain animosity between Russians and Poles.. hence, I wouldn't do that if I were you, many polish people would get confused about wheater you are a Russian or a Pole.

Love / Polish girls are the funniest [26]

you've got to be Sh*tting me right???

Well, I trained her properly ; ) some jokes that are centered around British political reality and probably history are far beyond her ( f.i. in Life of Brian, the piece about political parties ) because you'd need some knowledge to understand those little details... but she copes with the rest quite well

Life / What really represents Polish people? What would be the symbol of Poland... [51]

That's OK. Welcome to Poland. She doesn't represent the communists, ex-communists turned biznessmen, and other leftist trash.

She also doesn't represent evolutionists, most scientists, and many other people with open tolerant minds and great wisdom.. with your post you just proved you're a narrow minded person, attacking me without a reason. There, you have it, your average hateful parochial Pole, I'm amazed - you haven't used the word "Jew" even once...

Besides, don't say that something represents "Poles" when in fact it represents just you and your point of view.

Oh, and it's not "she" but "She" (with a capital letter). Have some respect when
you write about Our Queen!

Of course I know about her, I was pulling his leg - because I don't like when somebody says that some fairy lady represents ALL Poles when in fact she doesn't.

To say that something/someone represents Poland or Polish people (as in the thread
title) doesn't mean that it has t.. rabble rabble

all / majority that's of a little difference... and saying "our Queen" sounds exactly like you were stating that she is a queen of all Poles. I know some deeply religious people, catholics, who would never say something like that.

You meant bigotry? You see,

I have nothing against catholics, if you were paying more attention while reading this thread instead of making an arse of yourself by nitpicking typos you'd know that I was referring to 1jolas "She doesn't represent the communists, ex-communists turned biznessmen, and other leftist trash." that was his bigot reply to my neutral statement. It was not about Black Madonna. If you are so open minded and tolerant you should notice that this kind of hostile answer pretty much follows Radio Maryja.. my bad for not quoting the obvious

Piorun

So me stating "saying this icon represents Poles is over the top" is not tolerant? in what way? That's just my point of view, deal with it. Beside that, my other posts were all focused on answering people who were trying to mock me.. where your great intolerance?

Torq

You haven't answered anything about what 1jola said, and you know well that most of the things I posted concerned his post and was a reply to his hostility. Only the "arse" part was about you being all mocky about my typo, which is a highschoolers way of dealing with a lack of reasoning...

fairy lady

whoops, that was supposed to be "fair lady"

Not really.

Our queen is closer to "queen of all of us" than "queen of the majority of us"

that's enough of "someone is wrong on the internet" for today..

Work / Customs in workplace in Poland [11]

In my place it's rather quiet, the only thing spoiling the silence is when someone is "copy pasting" a lot hitting ctrl+c and ctrl+v rapidly ; ) And if you really need to discuss something you just go to his box and talk quietly.. the only place for chit-chats is the kitchen, and usually commotion occurs when people are going there to have a lunch at about 11:00..

Work / Canadian Woman Moving To Warsaw [29]

Is that normal for men to work, and the women to stay home?!

It was a common family model and maybe still is in some parts of Poland, but most young couples follow the model of both partners working even if there's a toddler involved..

and I think it's better to work especially if you're in a new place, don't have any friends and activities, you would die of boredom or start having love affair with a neighbour or become addicted to internet.. : o

Life / Will my ps3 work in Poland with a normal 3pin-2pin adapter? [25]

You still have to flash the drive, I didn't do it because I don't have that much time for games anyway so I just have few of them. Beside I'm a programmer that would go against my ethics ; )

As for xbl, there's one problem, you need to make an account for uk or us, can't have one for Poland - because xbl is not officially in Poland. I was thinking about getting ps3 but I liked the "socializing" aspect of xbox, the whole community system with voice chats and jumping into games with friends was an instant "win" for me.

ob1one

but the yearly supsciption for xbox live is really cheap .. I actually don't mind it, people who are into mmorpg's like World of Warcraft are paying much more for a month..

szarlotka

I can have some fun with Oracle, just don't bring js anywhere near me ; )

Damn, I went for some shopping, I'm coming back, and that's what is left of this nice geek thread :/

Life / Will my ps3 work in Poland with a normal 3pin-2pin adapter? [25]

so you buy a game and then pay more to play it online as well with others? geeze! lol

Yup, people who buy World of warcraft, to play at all, need to pay a monthly fee, the game is addictive enough to be responsible for a quite a big number of divorces, break ups, and layoffs especially in states. Some companies stated that they will be asking candidates if they are world of warcraft players during interviews.

oh come on, i'm the nerd magnet lol

I meant js as java script - a programming language :)

ob1one

As for you question about gamer thread, there's already one thread like that somewhere.. so if you want to discuss anything beside technical console stuff we can switch there ; )

News / Buzek. another step to abyss? [41]

1. Endless quarrels between new and old members. Moreover, it will be accompanied with further deepening of dislike between Pl and Germany

I don't think so, clearly you have no idea about polish politics reality, I don't mind, but still you shouldn't state something without having any knowledge about the subject. Buzek was mainly supported by PO party, a party of dialogue. There won't be anything like endless quarrels..

2.

Last time we acted was when Russia accused us of starting the 2 world war. How could we let somebody get away with something like that? I don't remember any claims recently, do you? If we want to be a part of the us anti-missile system we can't be too loud anyway...

3.

A giant as big as EU won't collapse because of something as petty as a polish leader. And why would it, Buzek is strong person in the right place. We are on the frontier here and this will allow EU to strenghten its boarders.

I think you just pulled those out of nowhere, and what's wrong about being selfsufficient?

Life / Why build a supermarket with 20 checkouts with only 3 till staff? [46]

I think it's some kind of inheritance after communism, I remember that there where shops with 5 checkouts with only one clerk.. it's still better now. And in some supermarkets in my place such as Real it's much much better, I don't remember standing in a queue longer than 2-3 people lately and usually I just go immediately go through...

Life / Differing Brand Names In Poland/Europe and the UK [20]

"Calgonit" always makes me laugh. Did they really think Poles can't say "Calgon"? :)

There's "Calgon" in Poland, "Calgonit" is the same product from a different company..
