My friends husband lost his job a couple of weeks ago in this kind of situation...

I am sorry that he lost a job. I am not proud that sb was hurt because of other Poles.

But........he lost his job because of other british man who decided hire polish for less money, so who is worse that polish or that british??

That's the world!! World is hard!! And trust me we know it better that any british.

"******* Poles stole our jobs".

I dont really understand why british are so much against polish, we have not been first and for sure not the last there. What about people from Pakistan, india, and other Asian and african countries and other countries from Europe... it makes my laugh

What with british muslims from Birmingham who were born there and they dont feel any britishness, I have been there and city looked like skid row

do you mean the British government are intelligent or the British people? I saw a recent study that said that the Polish had the 2nd highest IQ score in Europe (after Germany) with Britain coming 8th. We have people in our government who certainly aren't the brightest (I only need mention John Prescott!!!!!)

Nice :) to know that
But I didn't say about polish people generally. Our education is really good but we have in our governmant people who are after primary schools.

There is so much corruption, nobody who is normal goes involved themselves into politics in Poland because they have no honour. It is difficult to explaine but I really disappointed. I remamber that it used to be worse when i was a child but lost my hope for living in stable and wise country.

Political issues etc.

I know what you mean, after my coming back to Poland I wanted run away from Poland after watching news. Internal rows (on the governmant level) have been our attitudes since Poland exist. I hate it. And I really envy British that they have really stable governmant with intelligent people. Look at Beger, Leper (their names are even hopeless :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

I saw up mainly views only british people. Where do you come from guys? Not from Poland :) !

As follows:-

Difference languages / dioletcs

Difference attitutes

Difference in culture - food etc.

A. in Poland we have different:
dioletcs (even languages i.g. Kaszubski - I am nopt able to understand this language)

attitues (look at polish highlanders)

culture - different folk clothes, food (oscypek only in mountains, pyzy wielkopolska and so on)

diffrences are not barrier for as to be united :)

My thoughts are positive

I have good opinion about british people. I spent there one great year. I didn't like only one english man who thought that he was better than god, or sth. But he was only one who I did't like.

stereotypes are only stereotypes, and usually are wrong.

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

Don't you have 99cent burgers in Poland? (I think that would be less than 3 zl.)

Yes, one burger is about 3 zł so 1$ (exactly equivalent), but we earn (average job i.g. shop assistant) 6 zł so 2 $, and people in US I bet earn much more (10 $ per hour or sth), so less expensive for us is buy meat, vegetables and bread and cook ourselves . :)

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

Yes, we have McDonalds and so... but you know I go there ones a year :) . I can say only about myself. And fast food , or however you call it, is pretty expencive in Poland. For 10 or 15 zł (burger, fries and coke) I can buy main course in restaurant, healthy and tasty.

Food at school : mug of milk , soup (i.g. milk soup, chicken, mushroom...) , bread, meat (i.g. meat ball) and lots of potatos, or pasta.

Love / Do you think that Poles are faithful [74]

[[/quote]

ranj... ive seen friends doing things here that i would consider bang out of order back home... details arent needed... but over the years seeing and experiencing these things has helped form opinions which i gave above...

I dont know exactly what you meant (it is my poor english probably),

but to be honest I have seen the differences, I have never seen in Poland anyone who cheated sm and didn't say about it and didn't feel guilty, I have seen it abroad.

prob... was there a reason you asked...?

I was curious, so where do you come from? Do you live in Poland? Or sth?

Life / Polish people living in Poland, How do you see your future? [37]

am interested in hearing from people born in Poland, who have not lived overseas, your view, concerns and dreams about your future? Are things getting better or worse?
Do you want to work in another country?

I came back to Poland after some time in UK and after 3 months I found a job finally. E.g. in UK I found after 3 days. So it isn't easy in Poland.

I don't know what will be with Poland, but I have bad feelings because the prices goes up and salaries not really.
And what I will do I don't know.. might be I will go warm Australia :)

Travel / Pubs or disco in Wroclaw, Krakow, and Warszawa? [30]

Wroclaw you are probably pround of your city and I am not going to deny that there are not places to make fun there are, but I was living some time abroad and we spend our free time different than people in the other countries and the difference is that they are going out whoever they are and whatever they do, and no matter of the age. In Poland should have been that but in my opinion never been... let say that we are on the right way ... we need more relax ourselves but we still dont know how to do that

Travel / Pubs or disco in Wroclaw, Krakow, and Warszawa? [30]

Are all these places for under 30's?

exactly ! Poland is total different than the other countries. Only really young people go to clubs, pubs. It is not Britain where people (no matter of the age of them) are sitting days and nights and drink the same beer........ Everything is different

Travel / Australian guy in Poland for 1st time [6]

krakow(The old Town, Castle) krakow.pl/en is nice
(nearby Krakow are Wieliczka muzeum.wieliczka.pl/pl/english.html - salt mine and Auschwitz - Oświęcim - consentration camp auschwitz.org.pl/

and Wroclaw wroclaw.pl/m6843/ are nice, I have never been to Szczecin,so I dont know,

I love poilsh mountains (Tatry mountains ezakopane.pl/poland/)where you can find snow, because you can't be sure that snow will be everywhere in Poland, now is no snow but is still cold, and according to forecast in few days should be snow again.

I am from Warsaw and if you are interested in some communism time buldings ti is good place, there is huge Palace of Culture - e-warsaw.pl, castle rebuilt after war (so is not old but looks like:) and other palaces and museums. many people hate (is gray and depressing) my city but it has some atmosphere.

Have a nice time in Poland !! :) :)

History / how many labour camps in siberia? [11]

thousands - that's right.

but how many? who konws!

Brother of my grandfather was sent to camp in Siberia with his wife and two small children. His wife died because of lack of food and so on... And you know... some Russian man (I dont know why he did it) He said that whole family died and in the coffins (inside - he with children) took them out of the camp. They were going back to Poland two or three years on foot. And they did it.

You can try find more infotmations in books written by Norman Davies.

Genealogy / Looking for Babkowski/Bobkowski cousins [3]

I am sorry I dont know any people with your family name. It could be hard find someone from your family, you know The first and second war, not really many things left, I mean documents and so on. But you know a lot and in Brzozowka (Brzozówka) Strakowizna you can probably find old documents in The parish (church - or jut people with this surname) because in Warsaw is one big mess and it is almost impossible. Have a nice stay in Poland and even if you will not find anybody from your family just enjoy this time. good luck

Love / Polish Wedding Ring [4]

I would like to help you but I dont know what you mean. I think in Poland is no any difference in giving wedding rings than in other countries, it is the same custom like everywhere. But I might be wrong. the One ring is as engagement , the other one is giving during wedding ceremony.
