Feedback / My Thoughts on this Forum and Moderators [71]

Free speech is something that we all want, but it seems that what we want, cant always be tolerated. Cmon, take the rough with the smooth.

all this banging on about "free speech" is disingenuous. (sp?

of course we would all like freedom of speech....but tell me ..if there was some loony standing on your street corner shouting about racial hatred and child abuse etc in order only to upset passers by,,,,you would be glad when he was taken away. As he would be.

Work / New English 'teacher' in Poland (I have no qualifications). [119]

i am very worried the first student will turn up and pay me for the worst lesson they ever received!

youre right they will.....not pay you at all.....unless you find some materials you can use for conversation lessons,,,,have a look at onestop english.

You really might find a course would help. Students' knowledge and expectations will

throw you.

I dont want to be negative,, thats why I told you about one stop english.

Yeh sure Jeremy Harmer is ok, but it's not enough.

You say your knowledge of grammar is good.....what will you say when your first student asks you if a verb is transitive or not? This is a typical question from a Polish student who will have had grammar grammar grammar since primary school. It will not be enough to know that "a verb is a doing word".

How many tenses are there in English and how and
when are they used......? How would you explain them?

Sorry but its DEFINITELY

Prince Charles(which i admire for his respect to Islam) is a son of an imigrant(living father is greek).

\in Greece they call them the German family I believe

the pakis as you call them).

again, you pick and choose and you call asian pakis,

Did Shelly call anyone a Paki? I couldnt see that in her post.

[quote=Ireland32]
sorry for being naughty :-)

You want your mum to tell u off? Go round her house then.

Stop playing games ,he could have given her slap for that, for all you know.

Doesnt sound very EX to me.

Better to go for single women, in general.

Travel / Zieleniec......what a great time [6]

I wonder if anyone has visited Zieleniec?

I was there some years ago with a language school trip, and the family and I headed there for the half term break. It was so great, I found some agroturistic accomodation, and contacted the ski skool which I remembered, all on the internet of course.

We took the bus from Victoria to WRoclaw ( full of v cheerful people heading home it seemed) well, apart from that it broke down outside Blackheath (hahaha), it was fine.

The skiing was amazing, the mountains beautiful, the food lovely, the people welcoming. What more can I say?

We also visited the kids babcia in a town near Kosztryn,(sp?) linguistically demanding you might say.

And let’s not forget that one should be fluent in Polish in order to teach English to Polanders.

disagree......not the case at all.

here in UK i sometimes have as many as 7 or 8 different language speakers in the same class.

Should I be fluent in Chinese Korean Japanese Spanish Italian Hungarian AND POlish>>>?

I had heard that in UK primary schools were starting to reintroduce grammar, bit by bit.

yeh that is true but as the teachers are now uneducated half wits who dont know the difference between a noun and a verb, it's a bit late.

My kid told me that WILL was the future tense in English, for example........is that useful?

students find it easy to quote but why is everyone so obsessed with it?

spot on, tha answer is right in the question..."students find it easy" therefore that is what makes them happpy..it is quantative...and also enables students to feel superior.

Therefore private language schools demand it....£££££...kerching...$$$$$

Encouraging students to use the language creatively has far more benefits and fosters language diversity.

Yes youre right unfortunately only experienced teachers like u see it like that,,it terrifies the hell out of many students, and language owners dont see kerching

News / Poland embraces new effort to fight anti-Semitism [138]

Jews are a peculiar phenomenon in that they're a nation beyond the borders of their own country,

such ignorance.
Being a Jew does not make you an Israeli. Jewishness is NOT a "nation".
