Life / Polish Police - my bad experience. [33]

Well I have lived here for almost 5 years and I can understand Polish and speak enough to ask for some every day things I may need. You should probably do the same thing. Also the police here are so underpaid you have no idea. Combine an underpaying job with drunk forgeiners and you will get unhappy employees. How do you think the American cops feel about the mind you illegal aliens that can't speak the language that cause trouble. Main thing is this. You shouldn't do something for the police to have to pay attention to you at all and then they won't be rude or agressive towards you. Police are nice and yes you do get 1 or 2 that are not but that's in any country as well. So we should all be good boys and girls and stay out of trouble. :o)

Life / Cost of living in Warsaw, is 4.000 EUR a month OK? [9]

Hello

4,000 Euro is about 15-16 thousand pln. It should be enough for you and your family but you need to ask your self a few questions. 1. How much will it cost you for renting a place? 2. Do you want your children in a private school taught just in English? 3. How will you get around for work? Questions like that. Anyway that should be enough money for anyone to live off of.

Hope that helps!

Life / Cannot speak Polish, but love Krakow. Any options to stay in Poland? [5]

Dude! Relax. The States are 1,000,000,000,000 x better then this gawd forsaken communistic style country! You need to get visa's and all that happy horse crap to work and live here which will require you a lot of time and paper work and if you do not have anyone to help you out for free with this then you need to pay a translator. You may want to evaluate your life again and see exactly how bad it sucks in the US. Where do you live BTW? Now when you think it's that bad there, imagine it much much worse over here. Read all of these forums about Poland and such and you should get a clear picture of how it really is here.

Good Luck:
Eric

Life / American moving to Poland [34]

I think the 2 month visit is a fantastic Idea! I am sure you will find that you would like to go back to the US rather then stay here in Poland! The people here are not friendly. If you say hello to someone you don't know they will think you are going to try and rob them or you want something from them! This is still by far a communistic style country in mind and spirit! Good luck with your visit.

Life / Exchange US DRIVING LICENCE IN POLAND by taking practical test only? [11]

How long are you staying? If you will be here a long time you need to have a certified translator with you for the written exam. There is no need to take the driving test if you already have a license! However if you are in the USA or you go back at least once a year my suggestion is to do like I do and go to Triple A and get an international drivers license! If you are not a member of Triple A it cost roughly 30 bucks. The cost for a Polish translator to go to the test with you is around 250 pln. Good luck!

Life / Polish Work Ethics: One guy working, 5 others watching? [19]

Seriously! 1 guy works while 5 others watch? Or if you are lucky they work at all! I know of some people who think it is perfectly ok to go shopping once they have made it to work! Yes they leave work once they get there to go get milk bread and what not! The work ethics here are crap because that's what people are taught from day 1. I think a little politeness or a smile from someone at work would be nice. Is it like that in any other country? Is the quality of service just as bad?

Life / Holiday's in Poland! Not allowed thanksgiving off. [30]

There was no Arrogance at all in my requesting a day off. Also he did comply after telling me I need to find my own replacement, which I did. However like you stated read the contract, which I did and found that if I do not confirm my lessons on the Friday of the week before I do not have to work the classes I don't want to. Please be aware I came to him at the end of Oct and asked about this. I didn't demand or do any such thing. Thanks for the advice on reading the contract too!

Life / Holiday's in Poland! Not allowed thanksgiving off. [30]

I'm an American living and working in Wroclaw and the surrounding areas! I recently asked my boss if I could have Thanksgiving Day off so I can do all the preparations and cooking! He was extremely angry that I would ask for an American holiday off, since no 1 here in Poland cares about them! Anyone have any thoughts about his reaction?

Life / Disability Law and Payments in Poland - Questions [6]

Let me ask everyone a question. If you were making 800 pln a month from a disability and that was the only income you had, how are you going to survive? Mom and dad are non existent and you have a child. I think in some cases yes it is okay to work the system! Heck look at how our lovely American people do it! Is it right? No it isn't but, if it is the only way to put food on your table rather then going and robbing a store or something then I say make an exception. Like posted earlier, I believe people are to nosy and like to get into other peoples business when they shouldn't. Why stir up a pot when there is no need to?

Life / Disability Law and Payments in Poland - Questions [6]

What seems to be the concern? Here in Poland, I think the only way to earn enough money to survive off of is to actually try and receive disability and work as well! You do know what the average pay for a farmer is don't you? Like in the United States of America and here it is next to impossible to live off of a disability payment! I only earn on average about 4000 pln per month and find it difficult to get things we want or need. In the USA the only way to survive off a disability is if you are black or Hispanic! The government only seems fit to provide help for those minority groups with housing, food stamps, and medical out the wazoo. Here in Poland my neighbor has to work 2 jobs to try and support her and her children! If you have a problem with someone receiving a pension here in Poland and working, my suggestion is to go and start in our good country the USA. I assume you are American? If you are British then please refer to what I have said about minorities and start in your country. Now that we have a new President starting his term in Jan. I hope he will make our country more fair towards the now minority white people and supply us with help for living and food beer and nicotine like the good old government has been doing for the "Minority" African American for the past 30 odd years! Really you need to look into how much people earn here in Poland doing certain types of jobs! For Pete's sakes, a floor cleaner working in a hospital in the USA earns more monthly then an actual doctor here! Really do research before you go condeming people how they try to earn money to survive.

Life / Deadly Roads - "Are polish roads really THAT dangerous?" [139]

I just want to say one more thing. By the time you are done reading this, someone will have died in an automobile accident in America. Maybe 2 please read more statistics about different countries. It's amazing how bad a lot of drivers all over the world are!

Work / How much Poles earn compared to foreigners! [29]

I am not 100% on how much they are paid but they are engineers. The Poles doing the same job are not treated remotely near, how they are treated! I would like to point out I just threw out a number too.

Language / Been living in Poland for a few years, but only know the basic Polish [4]

I have been living in Poland for a few years now and would like advice as to where I can learn the language properly? I have only learned the basics from watching cartoons with my son and listening to people talk. I know enough to get around in Poland but I can not have a conversation with someone unless I am of course drunk!! lol Any advice would be nice!

Look up the word "Ignorant" Please explain to me how you have the balls to call someone dumb! This is a post to actually get Poles fired up about earning more money not to try and insult the person writing the topic!

Work / How much Poles earn compared to foreigners! [29]

Dear Readers

I am currently an English teacher who lives and works (Legally) in Wroclaw Poland. I teach at some bigger companies which I will not mention by name! I happened to have a discussion with a group of mine the other day about how much people earn here in Poland. A (DOCTOR) who treats us and helps us feel better makes around 3,000 pln a month!! The average pay is around 2,000 pln a month! I would like to point out that at a few foreign companies here is how their employees from their countries are paid! A Japanese man for example will at his company be paid a salary of around 5000 pln a month plus they receive a company car, credit card (that the company pays not the individual.) These C.C's are used for such things as paying for (Bordellos, Casino's, Food and every day expenses from buying kids diapers to wives tampons!) Yet these companies refuse to pay their line workers more than 1,200 a month because they can not afford it? Come on People!! Can't afford it because they are busy paying for women to please their fellow country men? Busy to pay for an expensive night out at the casino for their fellow country men? Come on people this makes me sick to my stomach! Can anyone post some comments please as to what you are thinking?

Thanks:
Eric
