Pointing on the fate of Kalingrad as an example of "Russian barbarism"

Well it wasn't barbarism ... Germans firstly bombarded Warsaw and London ... later recived what they were asking for...

Germans started to expel Poles form our native lands

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Poles_by_Germany

It is estimated that between 1.6 and 2 million people [8] were expelled from their homes during the German occupation of Poland. Only the German organized expulsions affected directly 1,710,000 Poles.[7] Additionally, 2.5 to 3 million Poles were taken from Poland as slave labourers to Germany to support the Nazi war effort.[5] These numbers do not include people arrested by the Germans and sent to Nazi concentration camps.[8]

In many instances, Poles were given between 15 minutes and 1 hour to collect their personal belongings (usually no more than 15 kilograms per person) before they were thrown out of their homes and transported east (see: deportations) On top of that about 5 million Poles were sent to German concentration camps. A total of about 6 million Polish citizens were killed during the war. All these actions resulted in significant changes in Polish demographics at the end of the war.

later had to leave ...

As to this rapes in Berlin it seems that many German females were looking for strong men (winer) after the war ... because German males had broken psyche and were considered losers...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov-Ribbentrop_Pact

In addition to stipulations of non-aggression, the treaty included a secret protocol dividing the independent countries of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania into Nazi and Soviet spheres of influence, anticipating "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries' territories.

Molotov signs the German-Soviet non-aggression pact. Behind him are Ribbentrop and Stalin.

Kostik here is my opinion about Russian towns ... it is exactly the same as about German towns ...

News / All this mess about Danzig... [122]

in 1925 (after XIX century expulsions) about 15 % considered themselves Polish and add Kashubians who considered themselves Kashubian but prefered to see their "Gduńsk" as part of Poland ...

During the drafting of Treaty of Versailles, Kaszub activist Antoni Abraham promoted Cassubia's integration into Poland by famously saying "There is no Cassubia without Poland, and no Poland without Cassubia" (Nie ma Kaszub bez Polonii a bez Kaszub Polski")

During the Second World War leading Kashubians who stood for the Poland's cause, particularly those with higher education, were killed by German Nazis, the main place of executions being Piaśnica

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piaśnica_Wielka

In the forest next to the village during World War II, German Schutzstaffel executed about 12,000 people, mainly Polish and Kashubiann intelligentsia from Gdańsk Pomerania. Among the victims were approximately 1,200 mentally ill persons from local hospitals.

The mass executions began in October 1939 and lasted until April 1940. An exhumation of mass graves was carried after World War II in 1946. Out of total number of 35 graves, 30 were localised of which 26 were exhumed. Only 305 bodies (in two mass graves) were found, the rest of the bodies was burnt by Germans in August-September 1944. Forced prisoners from Stutthof concentration camp were used to cover up the tracks and were later executed.

As to Polish and German border ... Czechs have made mistake that they gave up their border for Hitler... it hadn't helped them. In my opinion it was better to talk to Soviets in 1939 or invade Germany in 1933 with France.

What do you mean saying "West"? I do not know any peculiar features allowing to attribute state to West or East.

I'd say democracy, freedom of speach...

I know you have complex of lost cold war and you would like to see Anglos dead ...

Poles don't love Russia ... there is more symphaty for Russians than for Russia as state...

but if we look on interests I would like to see Russia having friendly ties with EU and NATO. I'd would be very good and profitable for both sides. We both know that honest cooperation is the best solution.

well really i know several nations: Mongoliams, Turks, Poles, Swedes, Frenchs, Germans and even Japanese. The end was the same.

No body on your western border dreams about conquering Russia... in cooperation you can gain a lot. In long term - friendship with China is suicide for you.

I doubt that you will be able to play your cards on so many fronts without pernament aliance with somebody ...

News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

When I look on differences in GDP growt in Poland and old EU I have much different view on this 1% per year. This stats are very easy to find.

I'd say 25 - 30 years.

The data also reveals that one of the most significant factors hindering development is unemployment.

Unemployment is lower than in Spain or Ireland but too young Polish citizens can retire.
londynek.net/wiadomosci/en/article?jdnews_id=2619&cat_id=39

"Unemployment in Poland has decreased to the record low rate of 6.5%. As a result, Poland in now a country with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the EU where the average amounts to 7.5%"

News / Polish Parliament Backs Pension Reform, Overturns Veto [9]

com/en/world/clanak.php?id=216580

Poland's parliament approved on Friday government plans to overhaul the creaking state pensions system, overturning a presidential veto of the reform.

President Lech Kaczynski, a conservative often at odds with the pro-business government, vetoed the reform on Monday saying it was unfair and failed to heed labour unions' criticism.

The law will reduce the number of workers eligible for early retirement to around 240,000 from 1.2 million and will lead to significant savings for the state budget as Poland's economy

However, parliament failed to back several other reforms sponsored by the government but vetoed by Kaczynski, including a plan to introduce more financial discipline into the inefficient state health sector.

Law / Coal Alternatives in Poland: The new electricity market [21]

spacedaily.com/2006/081201152225.ps56qkpm.html

Coal-dependent Poland could build a nuclear power station on its territoryby 2020, in a drive to switch to a cheap and clean energy source, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Monday.

Poland has already chosen a nuclear option off its territory, however, by signing on to a four-nation project to build a power plant in neighbouring Lithuania.

The plan, which also involves Latvia and Estonia, is to replace a Soviet-era nuclear plant in Lithuania which that country pledged to close by 2010 as a condition for joining the EU.

The site chosen for the new facility is on the Baltic coast at Swinoujscie. The FEED contract is worth zl26m (C$10.6m, €7.2m) and SNC-Lavalin were chosen as the preferred contractor over five other bidders in the tender process including Suez-Tractebel of France.

Pointing on the fate of Kalingrad as an example of "Russian barbarism" you hypocriticaly omit the circumstances which leaded to this devastation. It was a war. You should blame americans and brits for atrocious bombing of Leipzig, that was an act of real barbarism, meanwhile fight for King's mount was a honest battle. And the next! Why nobody want to remember about ruines of Russian cities?

You must understand that Russian life isn't worth so much as German. You have less feelings, you are human on lower level. Poles are a little bit higher in somes people minds but still it is not top nation in this people clasifications.

Generaly your lifes seems to be worth more than lets say African lifes but ... as I've said ... Russian cities are rather considered to be like African cities ... than German when we read some historicans books...

News / Polish-Hungarian friendship - reality till today or just a phantasmagoria [144]

Hungarians are not Slavs but Poles and Hungarians supported each other in different times.

In middle ages Polish - Hungarian aliance was very useful. Hungarians supported us durring wars against Teutons.

In Austro - Hungarian empire ... Hungarians supported Poles and Poles supported Hungarians (to get more power form Austrians)... That is why it started to be called Austro-Hungarian empire (decades after partitions... ealier it was just Austria) and that is why Poles had the best situation from diiferent parts of Poland.

It was much harder for Poles in Russian or German occupied terytories...

Durrring WWII we were in different aliances but Hungaians were helping for Poles.

Durring communism Hungarians were cooperating with Poles.

Poles and Hungarians had similar interets in different times ... and some positive traditions.

History / Pilsudski's elite formation [4]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilsudski

At a meeting in Paris in 1914, Piłsudski presciently declared that in the impending war, for Poland to regain independence, Russia must be beaten by the Central Powers (the Austro-Hungarian and German Empires), and the latter powers must in their turn be beaten by France, Britain and the United States

In Frist World War majority of Poles were fighting on Central Powers side agains Russia ... when Russia was beaten Poles changed the side (on French) or stoped fighting.

He was succesful, Poland regained independence.

Well there was such proposal made by Hitler.

Here is interesting debate: forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=80360&start=45

In 1934, Hitler proposed to Pildsudski that Germany and Poland should jointly confront the Soviet Union and force it to cede a large amount of its western territory.

Germany would establish a protectorate over the Baltic States (which at that time were still independent), Soviet Belorussia, Soviet Ukraine east of the Dniepr river, the Kuban region, and the Caucasus region. Poland would annex Soviet Ukraine up to the Dniepr river.

That proposal was well-known at the time, and was reported in contemporary periodicals on foreign affairs in the United States.

In my opinion Hitler proposal I've presented was much better than this one presented by you. Western Ukraine and help in war against Soviets was much better than just peace and symphaty... Still this better than yours Hitlers proposal was rejected for many different reasons.
