Chocolate pierogi are not really Polish heritage, they are an american deviation. Pierogi with sauerkraut & sausage are real Polish style!

USA, Canada / American moving back to U.S. from Poland with new wife. [14]

If you have been working in Poland for a couple years and are "zameldowany", you can file for a CR1 visa for your wife. It takes about 1 year for processing in the US/Poland. She'll do her medical exam in Poland with interview. Once they grant her the CR1, she'll be able to come the US and a green card shows up in the mail within 30 days of entry.

You can also do a K3 visa for a spouse, its a little quicker, but in the long run its more expensive. K3 visa allows the spouse to come to the US for 2 years (allowing entry & exit throughout 2 yr period), however you must file paperwork for the greencard and work authorization.

None of the family based visa's are quick, USCIS is slow at processing.

Check out this site, there are tons of people who have gone through all spouse/fiance immigration. visajourney.com

USA, Canada / Why are Poles still comming to the US and staying illegally? [27]

Polish illegals are staying because they dont care to become legal! They think of it as a part of their life, to make tons of cash and head home. Its when the time spent here gets longer & longer and then they forget about the plan to return home, because life here is good.

In many polish communities, Poles can get by without any documentation, without knowing the language. One illegal gives another illegal ideas on how to outsmart the system and keep on going. Its just the way it has been for decades.

The reason EmmaL had issues with USCIS is because she didn't follow immigration policy. If you are intending for your husband (or then fiance) to stay in the US and marry, he should have come on a family based visa (fiance visa). If he came under a tourist visa, he escaped a whole bunch of paper work for the fiance/family visa, the US was out a chunk of cash. It also showed he came as a tourist with immigration intent. You had a hard time proving it wasnt a cash for GC marriage because the way he came showed fraud.

USA, Canada / Roads and Driving rules in Poland versus America [63]

Polish drivers are crazy. They always think they are driving an ambulance... like its an emergency to get where they are going.

In the US we have fender benders, in Poland its usually totalled cars & fatalities.

USA, Canada / Why Polish workers in the US don't have insurance?? [9]

How come you have Polish Forum for Polish people to learn English and Polish and still you all complain about our English? You all are asking us for help in translations in English and Polish.

Its like a foreigner in the US complaining about other foreigners, like you :)

Polish people don't have medical insurance because if they are illegally in the US, they dont have a SS#, and hence cant purchase one without it. They work under the table on most jobs, and those jobs don't offer insurance.

I'm surprised about this post, because if you live in the US and watch or read any type of media, you'd see how often the topic of "americans with no insurance" is mentioned. Its a country wide problem, not just Poles.

I noticed some of you and other foreigners are having sex with America people.

Wow, you are quite observative. Where did you see people having sex?

Travel / Going to visit Poland for long period of time - need passport? [25]

Jermaine,
If you have never had a passport, never traveled anywhere, then you are in for a suprise my friend. You are taking off to possibly live forever in Poland? In a country whose language you do not speak, customs you dont know, and you just ready to live there forever? Odd.

Get a US passport, you can file at any post office for one. Go for the 90 day max to Poland. Don't overstay, its not recommended.

You will not get a Polish passport, since you are not a Polish citizen.

Have you mentioned this same train of thought to the lady you are going to visit? If you are so behind in times, I wonder if she is as well.

USA, Canada / $13 a week for the American people, but $30,000,000.00 for endangered mice [4]

Yes, wetlands resoration is going to pull the US right out of a recession/depression.

Its a load of crap, just taking more money out of the system to spend on bs, like they have been doing the whole time under the Bush administration.

The first bank bailout did NOTHING for the economy, they can't even account for where the money went. What will happen with the second stimulus? Same thing, no effect.

The solution is to bring back our jobs home. Let India worry about problems with all US jobs disappearing, let China worry about feeding millions when we take back production.

Call centers for United & Dell have already come back to the US, due to quality issues with India. All they can do effectively is read off a paper.

USA, Canada / Good job for Polish in USA [34]

Perhaps in a different economy. Why would a company want to spend thousand$ just to get an employee, when their selection pool can't be better than now?

They will count from the time you were married. You must get your marriage certificate registered in Poland to start on any citizenship filings.

USA, Canada / Good job for Polish in USA [34]

And if you come to the US, I imagine you are not coming on a tourist visa to start your job hunt, right?

Trying to get a job, and then mentioning at an interview "by the way, you have to sponsor me to hire me" is usually not acceptable.

USA, Canada / WHY SO FEW POLISH RESTAURANTS IN AMERICA? [44]

Pierogi are also filed under 'Russian food' to most americans... and before their appearance were best described as ravioli or boiled potstickers with different fillings.

You must be kidding me, Pierogi are the most known polish food to Americans... NOT RUSSIANS! They do not describe them as ravioli (italian), they know pierogi, are just that pierogi. They are so popular, they are in nearly every American food store. Many American companies make the frozen varieties.

The reason there arent that many Polish restaurants, is because Americans always think of the "polish buffet" and have negative ideas in their head. Who wants to eat a whole bunch of mixed dishes that have been sitting out for a while, may have been sneezed on or whatever.

The few polish places that actually offer a normal course meal are rather pricey, compared to say what you get at an italian restaurant, a burritto place (more fast food than dinner meal). Poles in the US dont go out and dine often at polish restaurants, cause why? They can make the same thing at home, nothing special.

And contrary to belief, polish food is not that healthy. Every meal has a ton of fat & calories. The serving of potatoes itself would fill up a normal person, then there's the fried meat to help in your saturated fat content.

Travel / Do Polish Railway Stations have Rest Rooms [10]

Krakow railway is connected to the "Galeria" shopping center, you can clean & free WC. Since its a mall, you have tons of time to shop, sit on a bench & read, cafes, nice selection of places to grab a bite to eat.

Life / American moving to Poland [34]

If its only a temporary position in Poland, I'd stay in the US with the 7 kids. 7 kids is a lot to handle, and taking them all out of school, and placing in a foreign tongue school would be drama. Do you kids know any polish at all? I'm not sure what school they could attend if they dont, maybe there are special private english schools.

Moving just one person takes a lot of adjustment, but a whole family of 9 is incredible.

Law / Costs for importing a car from Germany to Poland. [34]

My understand was, and I could be wrong, if you bought from a private party, and didnt pay VAT in Germany, you would be required to pay at time of registration in Poland, based on the price in the sale document. If the price was lowered to show a cheap sale, then the value would be calculated by the authorities, and VAT applied to that rate.

If you want I can dig out some (Polish) websites

I researched this once, and kept finding conflicting info, or lack of specifics.

Law / Costs for importing a car from Germany to Poland. [34]

For sure you have to pay the 22% VAT, however I'm not sure if you have to pay the "akcyza" which is customs tax. This tax is normally non-applicable in the EU, but some laws have changed recently. In any event the customs tax was approx 13%.

That same 2007 Audi A8 is about $50,000 in the US. Import it from there, and save €28,000.

Love / Polish man dating Russian women [42]

Sasha, I think you've misunderstood what I meant by "housewives." I didn't mean they sit at home and wait for their husband to bring in the bacon. They do work, but work either part time, or for low wages. Their concern is the family & ensuring dinner is cooked, the home cleaned, man maintained. Not so much about education or a career as in the west. They are sort of taught to not be independent.

In my example, the guy I knew from the train that married the Russian gal... in Russia she used to live in a flat with her mom, her brother, her brothers wife and their 2 kids. The US guy offered to send her to school, to which she'd respond "this money can be better spent supporting my family". I believe its just the mentality, based on dire finances. It doesnt apply to every single girl, but to quite many.

I must say I still remain cautious as time will tell what is to become of this.

Glad to hear that you both will be able to see each others homes and test out the waters that way. Being cautious is important nevertheless.

Love / Polish man dating Russian women [42]

I would very much like to move from the US to Poland and live there with her?

At first when I read this, I thought "uh-oh" maybe the Russian girl doesnt know of the later plans to move to PL, and all she heard was US. Stereotypically Russian girls do a lot, and sometimes whatever it takes to get into the US. Greencard marriages are to say the very least. I rode on the train to work each day with a guy that met a Russian girl while there on a business trip. He of course thought the world of her, and regarded highly of her because "she demanded nothing but the best" in terms of clothes, cosmetics, etc. He mentioned how she said she'd love some face cream that cost like $300, which was nearly double what her monthly earnings were..... 2 yrs after her arrival, and gaining a green card she showed her true side.

She has been learning English everyday and obviously is way more intelligent than I in this matter of learning. SHe also makes much more income than I , So I am open to moving more to where she can maintain her success. SHe is the sweetest woman I have ever yet to know and she does not drink vodka. I s that strange?

Your girl is very much different from most other Russian gals. Russian gals are raised to be housewives, and dont value education/career as much, because they think "why, when my man is supposed to support me." Outintheyard, seems you have an educated bright gal, making more than you considering Russia is not the norm. Is it strange that she doesn't drink vodka, lol? No, I'd say it matches with her career/goals.

Before making a decision to both move to a new land such as Poland, I'd recommend either a trip for you to her homeland, or one for her to the US. You really get to know a person once you see them in their normal surroundings.

Travel / Nice place to holiday in the North of Poland? [26]

Do not even consider going to £eba:

Maybe not for a stay, but I'd definitely recommend the sand dunes at Leba. Where else can you see something like that in Poland?

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

I dont claim to be expert in catholic religion

Yes we can see that by your comments such as...

you can pray on your front porch if you want.
doesnt mean your less a catholic just because the people who run it are less then holy

You can pray wherever you please, its not the same thing as going to church. If you already have admitted to not knowing the religion, then please stop posting your inaccuracies. I'm not here to teach you, or keep arguing how a real devoted Catholic practices. You seem more raced on your mother than the topic. Your mother is not the topic in the thread. I didnt call her a lesbian. Maybe your kosher azz should re-read what I posted. (I'm not sure where you are in "america" but that slang must be in your ghetto hood)

USA, Canada / My wife is trapped in the US. [5]

It takes about three months and the cost is about $45. If you have an emergency (real or otherwise) you could apply for a temporary passport and get it within week’s time.

I think you are talking about getting the passport renewed while being in Poland. From my understanding, the OP's wife is in the US. The fees are much greater here, and takes 6months+ to get it renewed. If you have an emergency, they can issue a temporary passport which takes 1 month to get... for another extra fee.
