Life / Hare Krishnas in Poland [19]

I had some come to my house the other day. I did the old im not Polish routine. Unfortunately they had a card prepared for many languages. They had been waking me up at 9am every morning for the past 2 weeks so I decided to answer at last. Nice people bit inconsiderate about sleeping hours though <smile>

Life / How do Polish view others [116]

And why the hell do you think that anyone here cares what you or some "Americans" think ? Dude, you're a joke

Well said.

When I was a student in Krakow in 1985 the Americans, and there were many there with me on the same course had the most low and degrading opinions about the Poles and their country-I should know as I even shared a room with one for six weeks.

Well if those people would come here to live in another country and spend their time slagging it off then they are very very low. Shame that we have that problem in England too. How many people come here from foreign countries and attack our laws and cultures. Thats why I have respect for Polish people they just try to live their lives and become part of England.

However i dont think the period of time matters. If someone goes to live in someone else's country then they should respect those people and not criticise their country.

Feedback / Rule 6 & Michal [11]

I second that motion. I recently opened up a thread advertising a job in Bydgoszcz. He wrote about what a bad town he thinks it is when the last time he was there was 25 years ago. Not very helpfull information.

but was it not you who was asking about the meaning of the Polish word 'murzyn'

Why would I want to learn a word that has that meaning? I dont use these words in English so why would I need to in Polish, but it is interesting you see this as a basic word. Ravi Shankar

I bet you do not know what a fruitcke in Polish is either

No and I dont need to. Thankfully you arent in Poland so I wont have to use it.

But if the Poles burn alive an english girl, will it not be a national tragedy?

Im not trying to make this any less tragic as it is but I dont see how blaming an entire nation for this guys actions is fair.

I dont think people in Poland are stupid enough to blame every English person they meet for one idiot.

Exactly. It is kind of harsh punishment.Immigrants are burnt alive

I remember reading about a homeless English guy who was burnt alive by 3 youths in a park. Its not just foriegn people this has happened to.

This wasnt a racist attck, it was a physco who couldnt handle rejection. If he was a racist against Polish people why would he have been in a relationship with her in the first place.

On everything else I agree with you, but not this comment. How was she supposed to know he would turn out to be a psychopath?

Daisy Peterweg was saying that this comment is complete rubbish.

News / Polish girl burnt alive, please help me. [42]

O sh** Ste I had no idea that it was you that posted those lats 3 pics. I thought it was the same guy who posted the first one. Mate I dont know what to say to you, I cant imagine how I would feel to hear that someone I had met and been emotianally touched buy had had such a horrific thing happen to her. Amathyst I know you meen good here but this guy is in pain as well, and doesnt mean any disrespect.

Maybe in a way he is trying to celebrate her and show us all what a beutifull women she was and that her death is a tragic waste of something special.

UK, Ireland / Great Britain vs England, Ireland, Scottland, Wales [37]

So I am interested to hear your points of view on this.

A very annoying student of mine is of the opinion that I cant be English but I must be British. I tried to explain that I was born in England and although the 4 nations are reffered to as United Kingdom, people in these countries take pride in calling themselves English,Scottish etc. Howevere she says she has spoke to many people on the internet and they always refer to themselves as British.

I believe that every nation does many things to ensure that they remain their own country. Wales for example is trying to encourage more people to learn the Welsh languae so that it doesnt die out and so that they can feel like more than just a piece of land next to England. Scotland has its own currency(although very similar to the pound i know) and it wasnt very long ago they were planning to break away from the UK, also recently they have been given an important drug to prevent blindness for free but English people will have to pay for it. Also Ireland has had a well disputed battle in itsa country to remain its own nation.

Im not anti British but I do believe we have the right to be from our own country not a group, also I fail to see what the United Kingdom does to show that we are United. I mean look at our sports teams, we only have atheletes for a joint team and i think that might be because we dont have many good ones. So im just interested to know anyone elses views on this.

Ps I know it doesnt have much to do with Poland...
