News / UFO's in Poland ? Any sightings ? [15]

I was driving through Kielce when it all happened. Pity we didnt have the camera with us. My story is a gift from the heavens, but i'll refrain from telling it as no one will believe me. Plus I don't want to sound like an idiot.

Life / Wage - Expenses = It Doesn't Add Up!!! [33]

Sorry for late response. I re-evaluated the cost of living thing, and took into consideration all posts here. I came to the conclusion that 1800-2000zl should be minimal for an IT/Engineering graduate. 3000zl for someone with ~2 years experience or a good portfolio.

Wage - Expenses = Eventually it will add up

I WILL not sell myself short, and if an employer laughs at my salary demand, I would laugh right back at them. Thanks all for your help here.

Life / Wage - Expenses = It Doesn't Add Up!!! [33]

how did you do at the uni?

I did okay. Average mark was 70% for most assessment. The problem is that it was mostly theoretical, so getting out there to the "real" world is completely different.

part of the game called life.

Reminds me of a good movie "Jak Zyc" (How to Live)

Life / Wage - Expenses = It Doesn't Add Up!!! [33]

right but, that's the same around the globe. i was just trying to show him that he can make serious zł if he's good. :)

Graduate with no experience. No idea if I'm good.

i know that people make only 1700-2000 but they aren't engineers with a degree...

My cousin in Poland finished the same degree as me (i.e. Engineering with specializations in software and Hardware), so programming stuff. He earns 1700 a month, but lives with his parents still.

Perhaps its not too bad in the long run. Certainly the beginning will be hard.

Life / Wage - Expenses = It Doesn't Add Up!!! [33]

Hi, I know this kind of topic has been raised before, but perhaps people have new opinions of it.

If I were to move to Poland, I don't know how I would survive. My calculations show that I would be making negatives.

My job (Engineering, English) would get me ~1700zl a month.
A decent 1 room apartment/unit would run me in at $1500. So thats out of the question. I would have to settle for renting a small room for $1000zl.

That leaves me with $700zl for food, living supplies, transport, bills (water, electricity, phone), etc.

Bills would cost around $300 a month. So $400 is left.

Food could cost around $400 a month (and thats limiting), so so now I have $0.

I don't know how much cost living supplies and transport for a month, but I won't be able to afford them, let alone buy myself anything I would like.

Did I miscalculate something?

Courses are usually on the faculties of construction and trwają5 years. Often, you can also complete with engineer after 4 years of study , and an additional year and a half to devote to doing a master's degree . At many universities has to be done according to the ECTS credit point system . Within the direction you can choose from several or even a dozen specialties . The selection is made usually in the third year. This choice determines the scope of the thesis and subsequent job prospects .

This could be, for example . Structures and engineering that prepare graduates for the design and implementation of general construction , industrial and civil engineering . This specialization gives him a knowledge of the complex issues of engineering structures mechanics.

Work / Is Master Degree Important in Poland? [16]

do you want to be competitive?

Ok, but someone with a bachelor degree and 2 years experience will be more likely to be employed than someone with a masters degree and 0 years experience.

Work / Is Master Degree Important in Poland? [16]

Hi, I looked around if this wasn't covered before but didn't find anything, so I started this thread. My question if simple. Where in the world (including and especially Poland) is a Masters Degree important. When browsing various jobs on different sites, I noticed the highest educational requirement for anything was a bachelor degree. So whats the point of a Masters?

Love / How to find a girlfriend in Warsaw? [60]

Back when i was holidaying in poland, i met girls (around my age) without a problem. In fact almost everywhere i went. Naturally this for me was completely different to anything i had experienced before. I wasnt even looking for girls, they just happened.

Now i forgot what the moral of my story was... Basically my suggestion is being outgoing. Being constantly on the move and doing something could help in finding someone. As suggested, join a recreational/sports club of your interest. Personally, I wouldn't go looking for people in pubs.

Life / Do Poles do hand shaking EVERY TIME they see friends? [30]

You would think that the Queen would know the right etiquette and I don't think she would ever be rude?

lol was that a question, or a statement with a question mark.

are you calling the Queen of England rude? Because she always wears gloves when she is meeting people and she never takes her gloves off to shake peoples hands or making her special waves in public.

Yeah but she is the Queen, I suppose she wouldn't have to. Like women do not have to take their hat (or similar) off when they enter a church.

Life / Deadly Roads - "Are polish roads really THAT dangerous?" [139]

Well, I think that even the police don't know how to drive. One time we where on the main road and a cop car flung out in front of us from a side road. Had to apply brakes, but we weren't keen on honking the horn on the cops. Is using the car horn legal in Poland?

And here is a "list of countries by traffic-related death rate":
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate

Haha, Australia (where I'm from) has 7.7. Wherever there is an accident, they lower the speed limit by 20k's or install a speed bump.

- Overtaking in a bend is an obligation

Thats true. On my visit to poland, whenever I was on the road I saw people overtaking 5-6 cars on a bend, even trucks. The opposite coming cars had to drive off the road for them not the crash.

A Solution to this Road Carnage: Every Pole should have their car replaced with a Jag or a Porsche. That way they will care if the get their car totalled.

Life / Experience more in Poland than any other Country [10]

Opposite direction? Wow first time I hear that point of view.

Im not really after money at this time, im rather interested in experiences. Perth is beautiful, but life is like so:

"I woke up to another hot day today. Have to go to work now, so i go and catch the bus. As usual I see the same old sites, and sometimes ppl. Get off at my stop and walk to work. Work."

Where as in Poland (even while holidaying) its like:

"wake up. Have plan to go into town today. Go and catch bus. Bus is leaving so I make a short dash. On bus am approached by suspicious ticket inspectors. Manage to lose their attention. Now, i get off at my stop and i witness high speed chase. While walking around town, I notice some event taking place in the town centre. Go visit EMPIK and am approached by chick who starts a convo."

And yeah, i can speak polish to a degree.

Life / Experience more in Poland than any other Country [10]

Well yeah, I'll admit holidaying is different from living, but surely everyday living still remains dynamic. Even the little things, like watching the activities or tasks of shop keepers, or restaurant staff or anyone. They seem so "into" their work, rather than just do it. Maybe that just sounds stupid, but Poland is more like a movie than real life.

Life / Experience more in Poland than any other Country [10]

Hello Everyone. I just found out about Polishforums today and couldn't resist not signing up, its such an interesting website. I've read most every topic with much interest, and thought I might as well make a contribution. I'm 19 from (Perth, Australia) but have polish parents. I just visited Poland a few months ago for the very first time, and all I can say is WOW! Its such an awesome country, so lively, and full of culture. I experienced more in one month in Poland than in 19 years in Australia. Clubbing (Dyskoteka), so many parties, late nights, hiking in forests and mountains, collecting mushrooms and forest fruits (pacht), and overall something was always happening. Life in Poland was Active.

So, i'm really interested in the opinions of people who visited poland, and if your visit changed your life. Did you experience more in Poland?
