Language / Example sentences for different cases. [42]

NoSpeakyPolski don't worry just stick to "to jest kobieta" this is the only correct way to express "this is a woman" (out of the forms you metioned)

the other forms are almost never used... I could probably think of a situation when one could use them but it would a really weird and complicated situation... and the meaning would be a bit different than simple "this is a woman"

Study / Questions about Warsaw Institute of Technology & some about life in Poland too. [19]

I think it is possible to get a room for about 600 pln...(that's about 200 USD) I have a small flat in warsaw I rent my spare room to a friend and that's how much I get.

You'd need to spend about 100 pln on buses every 90 days. For food and other basic staff (like toiletries, photocopying and a beer from time to time) you would need at least another 600 pln and preferably more. For bigger expense you'd need extra money.

It all depends on the quality of live you want to live... many polish students make do with less...

Language / Verb endings attaching themselves to other words [9]

or you can try to learn some of them simply as fixed expressions.... the structure is not used very often... but phrases like "czyś ty zwariował(a)" or "coś ty zrobił(a)" are common

Language / verbal nouns in -nie [7]

in general the noun would "martwienie się"

but I would never say "on zajmuje się martwieniem się" ... " on się zajmuje martwieniem się" sounds a bit better... in fact I'd probably choose 'on zajmuje się martwieniem" ... lol I'm Polish and I don't know...

You make it all too difficult by using a reflexive verb (się next to another się just doesn't sound good)

Martwienie się jest niezdrowe. That's a better exemple...

Mama nauczyła Tomka mycia się.

Language / Cases: What is Nominative or Accusative and when do I use those? [14]

Babinich:
(whom or what)

This seems to be a common way for Polish people to describe cases. I'm not convinced it's a useful method for English speakers.

This is how we are taught at school... each case is a response to a specific set of questions...
It was almost like the multiplication table:

Mianownik: Kto? Co?
Dopełniacz: Kogo? Czego?
Celownik: Komu? Czemu?.... (i tak dalej)

However this is for Polish speaker learning Polish grammar...

Language / Polish Leter Confusion [13]

I googled "Tartak Czerewacha" :) and that is what I got

I'm not sure what the website is ... I found there a list of different locations in Koweski (or Kowel) county (in Wołyń Voivodeship- a part of Poland before WWII)

I just had to match what I was able to read from your letter whith the names on the list...

this is how I got the address...

Województwo Wołyńskie (Voivodeship)
Powiat Kowelski (County)
?Urząd? pocztowy Maniewicze (Post office)
Tartak Czerewacha

Ruciński Antoni

Life / is there wireless internet in poland [19]

could i get onto someones wireless internet?

Well... you could if you're lucky...I live in Warsaw in one of those ugly concrete buildings and some of my neighbours have wireless routers... I think they don't like to bother with security... so out of three different networks there are two without a password...
