Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

English Version website - biedronka.pl/str/2/e/5.php

Never been in one but it looks similar to Aldis or Lidl.
Biedronka was one of the first Polish words I learned due to how many stores there are with a big ladybird stuck to the side of them.

Life / November 11th - Independance Day in Poland [28]

Its maybe a bigger deal for ex pats, an excuse to get together and have a drink.
I would have thought now that Poland is asserting herself in Europe that a bigger deal would have been made of these kind of days.

Law / Organised Crime - Mafia Business in Poland [21]

Everyone I talk to about small businesses in Pl talks about organised crime - mafia types. How bad is this in Poland ? Is it just protection type rackets, local "tax" type things. How much of a hassle is it when starting up a business ? Any particular areas worse than others ? I am thinking of the Gdansk bay area in particular.

OK - so I am getting mixed picture from the forum.
The friend I spoke to in PL does import/export and so has dealings with the docks. Harbours and docks throughout the world are known for scams etc I suppose.

The other person I spoke to had their own plumbing business and after installing a new bathroom the customer just said "thanks" and didnt pay him. When he asked again he got a visit from some people.

Maybe its not as bad as I first thought.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

I'd like to know if Scots, Irish or Welsh hate French

Much is thought of the Auld Alliance with France.

It was very sweet to see SNP make gains in Scottish elections

Indeed it was very sweet to see the SNP win ! The SNP are all inclusive, if you are living in Scotland then you are part of our community - no matter where you have come from.

The answer is that we british do not want any immigrants coming into our country,

I see in your profile you are from Glasgow. Scotland has a declining population. While the rest of the UK has a problem with immigration Scotland is actively encouraging it.

The FACT is that this IS the overall view of britian.

It is not the view of the democratically elected Scottish Government.

You clean the toilets then.

He's still in school.

I get annoyed with myself sometimes for giving a response to this sort of ****.
Admin have a rule about posting only for translations, maybe they could have one for only posting racist crap.

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

May - the first thing you need to do is find someone to talk to. This will help you clarify what your own feelings are in a more positive environment.

Food / the best cure for hangover-the polish way ;) [76]

This is a scottish thing, irn-bru and a roll and sausage.

Have to agree up to a point ! Glass Irn Bru tastes better than cans, plastic Irn Bru only if you are desperate. Got to be bacon instead of sausage. Ketchup for bacon.

BTW - I only realised recently that Doda is the face of Irn Bru in Poland.

Travel / Health Tourism in Poland [17]

Just spent £4.5k on a couple of implants (teeth). Im not loaded but youre teeth are your teeth, if you know what I mean. Anyway, had complications and had to get further work done - glad I did them here as it was a big job.

I might get my veneers re-done and I would consider going to Pl for that.

Love / When a man first holds out a hand to a woman - is it polite? [24]

give up your sit to a lady in a train, bus, tram......

Are you sure this is rude ?

If you cant shake hands, kiss hand, give a kiss on the cheek - what do you do?
Just say "hello" ?
For example, if I was meeting a friends wife for the first time.
