History / Poland before WWII or Poland now what would you choose? [390]

That's a polish obsession...:)

Actually I've got no obsessions at all cause I don't care too much about the past.
And if you think I wake up obsessed with hatred towards Germany or Russia then you're totally wrong.

With all respect to your technical skills or achievements European history doesn't give Germans right to teach us any lessons.
We don't owe you anything - for us the total outcome of the Polish-German relationship was more than negative..
In some political sense you were mostly wrong (when allowed to act on your own).
So better get used to your new position of a medium sized country on the European city dump.

Try to forget your incurable megalomania, the Kulturträger myth, leading position in the EU...
It's over.
Time to get real.
Maybe to catch up with the Netherlands lol.

Junge I see you've got some serious mental problems !
Posting the list of German achievements every three weeks is becoming your true obsession lol.
I suggest prepare some kind time line with the most important facts...starting ww1, starting ww2, first KZ, gas chamber invention ... etc.etc.
Don't forget the greatest thinker Marx, Engels, Rosenberg...
And now this funny coalition...
Self healing of old zone-complexes ?

If you don't expect anything, why is it win-win option and healthy political business? Stop pretending your arrogant heart explosions. ;)

I don't expect anything from you (Ukrainians) except for being Ukraine and not Malorosiya.
Is that too hard to understand ?
And how am I (or any kind of my "explosions") arrogant ?
Enlighten me pls.

Borrka, I think that you haven't read many posts

Sure.
I don't have enough time for kindergarten level flame wars.
At least today lol.
However your besieged fortress Ukraine conception and very clear picture of enemy is something new to me.
Same goes for Europe waiting for you until Ukrainians can manage their internal problems
Well, feel free to belive the Earth is flat and located on four elephants.
(I'm not arrogant but joking only)

"I feel more secure, because I know the face of the enemy"
Nathan

And I feel it was rather paranoid reaction.
Nathan, you have been asked several times some simple questions but unfortunately enough your only answer were sarcasm and some wounded national pride.

Stop this hair-splitting.
Stop discussing Danzig or Gdansk.

Say Nathan what is wrong about Poland considering good relationship with Ukraine to be a strategic objective of our politics ?
BTW it's not about Ukraine only - so called Giedroyc's doctrine refers to Belorussia and Lithuania as well.
We don't mean any form of confederation or "commonwealth".
It's over.

It's a healthy political business.
Win win option.
I do not overestimate Polish position in NATO or in the Union.
But for the time being we 've got better political and economical cards than you, Ukrainians.
Giving you some political support we do not expect anything in exchange.
Or maybe our wish of politically stable and democratic Ukraine is too much for you ?

History / Germans Exiles & Museum in Berlin in the eyes of Poles and UE nationals. [106]

But otherwise it's good for me...when centuries can't be seen as claim to ownership, mere decades can even less....it's okay by me! :)

Boring, boring !!!
Even as a bad joke.
First suggest some innovative solution for successful elimination/expulsion/Germanization of 11 millions Poles living there.

Lithen to Switzerland ... listen to Holland :-) ... Your lovely neighbours noticed the change :-)

I'm pretty sure Switzerland has noticed the change. lol
However it's rather of economic nature and not any kind of German chauvinism.
The key issue between Helvetia and Reich are German gastarbeiters, cheap labor force overflowing Switzerland.
There are so many rumors going around about discrimination of Germans and anti-German rasism (language related).
The best known case is Kathrin Wilde from Saarbrücken.
She had a job at Swiss Energy Radiostation but after nervous break down she is back in Germany now.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

Orthodox Church in Serbia has nothing with ruling establishment in Serbia

Crow, my friend... my mistake.
I should have said my posting refers to the Russian Orthodox Church only which was always a political tool of czars.
Frankly ...I don't know enough about Serbian OC and Serbia in general.
But it's going to be changed soon - I'm just reading an interesting book about Balkan Slavonic nations, their history and traditions.

As for drinking with Germans the only problem I have is a dangerous possibility to get a beer belly.
They drink too much beer and as a Slavic person I prefer beer and vodka with preference for hard liquor.
You know there is a Russian saying "Pivo bez vodki, dengi na veter lol."
Smart !

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

Dannyboy, I gave you already some arguments for North-Germans and Dutchies being much closer than Polish and Ruskies:
I repeat - religion, language, protestant values they share, historical experience .
But you ignore that.

Once again - don't you understand that different religions are changing mentality of their followers ?
Catholicism is more universal, on the contrary Orthodoxy is a typical state controlled religion promoting state loyal attitude.
Moreover, the Polish Catholic Church was hardly ever reformed, but there was "roskol" in the ROC in order to make it even more to state monopoly.

Poles and Russians speak languages which are more differentiated than Dutch and Platt, they use even different alphabets.
Frankly I don't believe your linguistic skills are good enough to compare Slavic languages.
Maybe I'm wrong in your case but I've never met an English native speaker being able to speak proper Polish or Russian (with exception of Polish or Russian kids born in the US or UK) .

As for common values - Sorry but I don't see any specific values being common for Russians and Poles only.

It's historical experience which made us to very different ethnoses.
To make it short .
Russians are still dreaming their imperial dream of ruling other nations.
They consider the former Soviet republics part of Russia's fair sphere of influence and are going to impose their values there .

Polish mentality still suffers the eternal freedom fighters' syndrome what was our sad experience in the past 300 years.

Both is madness pure lol.

So tell me now what do we (Poles) have in common with Russians ?
But no BS like "Slavic soul" and no genetics pls.

Talking about similarities among East-European:
Despite of our tragic past I think Ukrainians and Poles are most similar ethnoses .
Probably some Poles and some Ukrainians will disagree but it's my point of view.
You are obviously overestimating pro Russian feelings of "Eastern Ukraine". I don't want speak for Ukrainians but in my opinion they are on average neither anti-Russian nor Russophilic.

They are just pro-Ukrainian.
That simple.

Estonians are similar to Finns.
Even by language.
Lithuanians are closer to Poles with exception for their language (however it's the same Balto-Slavonic group).
It's because of the Catholic religion and our common past.
Latvians are close to ... Martians.
I'm joking only but they are similar to Latvians only lol.
The only similarity to Russians in the Baltics are typically post-Soviet economic and social relations.

Was that Gaeilge ?
Whatever ...
I have to start my next business trip now.
Have a nice weekend in your East-European matrix, dannyboy.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

You answered a question!!!!!

It's rare just because your questions are mostly like that:
Why Poles are black ?
Why do you hate Russia ?

Trying to extract a coherent answer from you from you is as futile as attempting to draw blood from a rock.

You know dannyboy ...it's quite simple.
No input no output.

All statements referring to your personal issues (girlfriend) are under acceptable level of discussion.
Actually same goes for remarks on my "skills in written English" which are (the remarks) absolutely not in line with net savoir vivre lol.

And forum is not an assessment center for any languages.

But I don't care too much about my English - being fluent in some other European languages I can live without it.
It's only my previous company (US) which made me speaking some pidgin English few years ago.
But those bad times are over now .

BTW. Cany you really speak Gaelic (Irish as you said)?

I recongise your style of reasoning very well, as I was in a relationship with a Polish woman for 3 years. T

Here we go again!
What kind of argumentation was
that ?

Amazingly enough, I'm Irish and don't drink any alcohol at all.

And how your drinking habits are of any importance for this thread ?

my field is Software

So what ?

You're expecting coherent answers for your diffuse lectures on .... what the hell are you actually talking about ?
That I hate Russians ?
No. I don't.

It's your turn now to prove the opposite.
But pls !!!!
Don't even try to refer to stupid jokes about "Russian Mongols", "Slavonic brothers from Asiatic steppes"
or similar.
I know it better than you can ever imagine that Russkies are not some Stone Age people.

enlighten me.

You better wait for some Divine Enlightenment.
But there is not too much hope for you.

because you mindless recite your brainwashed propaganda like a zombiefied North Korean

Would you pls tell me what is my "brainwashed propaganda" ?
But no lecture on eristics again if possible .

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All I would ask of a person who said that is: 1. how is this so?2. why do you believe this to be true?

Asking you about any Polish/Russian issues is like discussing colors of a rainbow with a blind person.
Alone your statement about people of the Baltics being similar to Russians proves your total lack of knowledge and when I comment your postings it's not because I need any information from you.

My message should be clear to other forum members - your opinions and impressions are mostly wrong.
For me there is no need to ask you any questions .

What is it that makes your opinion of Russia so valid?

Once again - we are discussing differences between Poles and Russians.
Or similarities if you wish.
I've spent about 10 years in Russia.
I have a good "hobby" knowledge of Russian politcs, history, culture, art etc. etc.
Same goes for Poland of course.
I speak both languages and it's not a basic level.
I read Russian books in Russian, I watch Russian TV and Russian movies without subtitles.
I'm answering your question only and not trying to show "how knowledgeable" I am.

As for my knowledge on this subject, lol, I have already demonstrated my knowledge in depth

Sure, presenting some naive views of the East-European countries gives you an expert cerification.
In some Irish pub maybe.

I could equally say, if you don't know how to use English adequately, you should hardly attempt to write it/speak it - but I haven't said that to you.I tolerate your grammatical and syntax errors because I can read between the lines and guess where necessary.

How nice of you giving me the chance to communicate in English.
And I don't expect any revenge in Polish.

Actually it was your only valid argument lol.
Wasn't it ?

Join your mother, be a normal son ;)

As far as I remember Serbia already tried to join Russo-Belorussian
Union.

You were originally focusing on the mentalities, not languages.

Not true - I was focusing on similarities in general.
And languages make just part of it.

You have suggested that I am arrogant for giving my opinion?

Arrogant for giving such an opinion becouse it's just the way I feel it.
No way around it.
Imagine somebody saying "Irish are kind of Englishmen".
Okay, maybe you don't care or maybe it's even part true.
But I do care about my identity and stressing some second rank similarities in order to prove we are close to Russians is demagogy pure.

This time I'm giving my opinion lol.

Yet you don't share their skill in debate or logical reasoning??A tragedy.

I don't see any connection between these two issues.
I mean speaking German and logical reasoning.
Just again some of your myths.

I have qualified all of my statements with reasoning or experience. You have yet to qualify any.

In your imagination only.
If you don't know the subject you can hardly discuss it.
You can learn something at the best.
This time from me.

Dutch is Low Franconian as opposed to Modern German

Look, you even don't try to understand my posting.
Do I compare Dutch and Hochdeutsch ?
Dutch and Plattdeutsch (local language spoken in North-Germany) are like two dialects of the same language.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_Saxon_language

So it makes the rest of your linquistic comments rather off topic

Linguistically, Polish and Russian are closer than German and Dutch, and share more cognates.

Quite arogant statement in discussion with me, given my full knowledge of both Polish and Russian.
BTW. I'm native speaker of German.

This is complete nonsense.

And this is again your arogant opinion only

You must offer some facts with evidence

Oh really ?
And what about you?
Prove to me Latvians or Estonians (native not Russian minority) are close to Russians lol.
Probably they are much closer to Martians.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

I suggest you revise my comments - starting with the point where I correlated the superficial similarities of Dutch & German with Polish & Russian, only in order to refute it.

So you're trying to show differences between Poles and Russians using as an analogy these two probably most similar European ethnoses lol?

Dutchmen and (Northern) Germans are both Germanic, they share not only Protestant background but the same historical development, same democratic values and social system and ideology.

Their languages are by far closer than Polish and Russian (I mean so called Plattdeutsch).

On the contrary Poles are Catholic and Russians Orthodox what has heavily influenced their mentality.
Russia used to be semi-Asiatic dictatorship and Poland semi-democratic republic.

Russians tend to live in collectives driven by herd instinct lol.
Poles are sick individualists prone to anarchy.

Russian patriotism equals chauvinism, majority of Poles know some short lived zeal only.

I could continue but obviously you've got your own picture ready ... something like saying
"Poles believe they are the political centre of the Universe" or even better
"Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians are somewhat closer to the Russian mentality".

No offence but you know too much and not enough at the same time to understand East-Europeans.
Maybe it's better to belive we are stone age creatures like some West-Europeans do ?
At least I feel free to call them morons lol.

The only way to do this is. Get out there and meet people of the nationality it is you claim are so bad.

Dannyboy you are like European saying all Africans are similar because they are all black.
And my point is we and Russians are very different people despite of some (mostly) superficial similarities.

Obviously you don't understand we're joking in many cases.
Your knowledge of Russo-Polish relations is insufficient to get the joke.
Or my English is that bad.

I'm leaving now so do not have enough time to comment your "lecture" but I will do it ASAP.

Only one answer now.

As a teenager I used to read Dostoyevski in Russian.
When I was 12 I visited CCCP for the first and the last time.
It was kinda my first fascination with Russian culture.

After CCCP-collapse I was travelling for business in Russia and former soviet republics.
My Russian is close to the native speaker level but still with some accent.
I don't have any Russian family what makes my views free of emotional reactions.
Actually I can only laugh about cases I know personally:
Russians giving their West-European partners very biased picture of Russia LOL.

You don't understand them at all.

Specifically I mean the way we react on the same things

True but it's by far not so important as diferences are.

1.love for strong drinks.2.Family values3.Hospitality4.Slavic soul(big)5.Powerful appearance and body posture6.Strong emotions covered by cold face7.Belief in superstitions and fate8.Submissive women9.Same taste in clothes, very similar fashion10.Love for cosmetics11.Speaking melodically12.Ethically unstable and generally loose,in a blue mood complaining often

1. Okay, but the same can be said about Finns or Irish so not typical for Russo-Polish relationship.
2.Definitelly NO. Post-Soviet Russians mostly do not care about family the way we do it.
3.To some extend ...
4.Huh?
5.Superiority of Russians.
6.Covered ?
7.Not common in Poland.
8.Tell it my girlfriend LOL.
9.Hard to say for me but rather not.
10.Standard in more or less civilized countries.
11.Poles ?! With our chrzczdz-sounds ?
12.Agreed.

Kaliningrad is probably the best example of our Interslavonic cooperation and brotherhood I know.
It's something to make our Crow finally happy !

Well organized Polish-Russian gangs are smuggling cheap cigarettes and liquor from enclave to the European Union.
Mobsters from Belorussia give logistic support to their Slavic partners and brethens - they don't need Russian visa and Belorussian truck drivers have no problems with Shengen as well.

The entire Kaliningradskaya Oblast' looks like being nuked recently (or rather "Chernobiled") but according to Crow the Prophet it's a kind of the future Slavonic paradise .

Personally I'm not some windmill fighter of La Mancha, however I'm not quite sure about ecological aspects of the pipe.
And that's true.

Just somebody like Mrs.Merkel.
In order to make it a win - win option.
